  • what I wanna know is how that plate was being made!!!

  • hi there, i started crafting armor, given that i have a working knowledge of auto body repair functional metal shaping it seems like a good time to ask seeing as i am getting into manufacturing basic plates already, what steel types and gauges would you recommend for armor shards and just basic partial plating, i am not worried too much it taking damage because i have a few tricks up my sleeve on that one, just simply asking so that i can make my work better and more practical.

  • but will u do the hardening work ?

  • Hey Eric,

What thickness of metal are you starting with for this harness?

  • What size steel are you using?

  • Where can i find one for cheap ?

  • Do you have anywhere where I can see pictures of suits and pieces of armor you've made?

Your work is incredible. My favorites so far are the breast plate with the braiding and the armet.

  • where do you buy you steel

  • @chainmailboy1441

From scrap yards, hardware store like Lowes, machine shops sometimes, online. Cheapest route is a local scrap/surplus yard. That's where I get my metal from. Paid 13 bucks the other day for about 12 sqft of 16g mild steel.

  • I have a scrap yard not far from here, and the dude that own it, told me that I could use it at will, for free =D

I'am sure it's enough to piss you off

  • tasset

  • whats the name of this part of the armour? please respond

  • It appears to be the breastplate.... with very unusual fluting.

  • @chainmailboy1441

From looking at the video where he is photographing the armor, it looks like this piece is one that hangs off the bottom of the breast plate that protects the upper thigh and articulates.

  • It's a Beastie Boys song "Mystique" I think

  • what's with the cheesy porno music?

  • this is eric dube's work... it's sort of porn for reenactors. these are the sort of people who are there drooling and going "phwoar, look at the sabatons on that!"

(And if you get a half-naked woman in armour, these are the sort of people who point out the inaccuracies of the unprotected areas of skin, before noticing they're half-naked.)

and yes, I am on of those sad, sad people, too :)

  • I wanna do it but my dad says "No one does it anymore"

  • same situation here.

  • If this guy tries to pick up a girl, and she asks what he does for living, he can say: "I make suits of armor".

    Hehe...

  • then she'll be all "oh my god he's my knight on a white horse, lets have sex right away"

lol thats great if that happens

  • lol ye but i dont think it will :(

  • A true Inspiration I started making armor and weapons about 3 years ago and have made 2 swords 2 helmets and a front muscle cuirass with plain back you inspire me to take my skill to the next hight P.S I have pics of the things I have made if you would like to see them

  • oh men..i wish i could affoard to do an armour....and whtas the material of the armor, is it pure steel or its a compound???

  • Comment removed

  • Superbe!

  • i don't see how... i play runescape and i know it only takes 3 seconds to make 1 body plate, and they are pretty standard... this is art at its most solid form.

  • il s'agit d'un plastron destiné a orner le torse d'un porno star des années 70? (cf la musique)

  • Argh a main? sa doit etre long! ya des machine de no jours! mais...y font tu aussi les gants?

  • Riding is some of the best shit to happen to armor smithing sence slicded bread. :D

  • Man, I wish i could afford to buy the metal and tools to make armor. I would totally do it.

  • He must have many years of experiance to be so accurate with his hammers; I saw no mistakes made. The amount of dies was very impressive, also. I would like very much so to know the exact percentage of carbon in that steel, please.

  • Its too bad you didn't video making Bob's Armet! That was an amazing work of art!

  • Are you doing this totally cold? Or was the preliminary shape heated?

    nice job!

  • I use 16g cold rolled steel, for this operation it was all done cold it not that hard too do whit the right tool.

  • @SgtViktor As far as I understood, in the Medieval times they also worked mostly on the cold Metal, only using heat in some very complex parts and for heat-treatment...is this somehoe correct?

  • @SgtViktor Wouldn't the fact that its so easy to cold hammer mean it wouldn't stand up well in combat?

  • armour is always done completly cold, it hardens it much better by compressing the metal.

  • looks to me like 16 gauge steel, probably cut from sheet metal. that and an amazing amount of hammer accuracy.

  • What kind of steel do you use on this, without having to heat on fire the metal?

  • Awsome

  • nice...u r VERY accurate
