@mitchikael Better school in what way? the Campus is dreary, only like 12% women, and appointment is by congressional nomination.. According to the Princeton Review, the Merchant Marine Academy was voted #1 least happiest students, #1 worst food, #1 worst teachers, #2 dorms like dungeons, #2 least smoothly run school... Talking to the students only verifies those rankings. The USMMA is a terrible place to be. the experiences sound good, but i don't know if its worth sacrificing your life.

@rjcampa The reason why KP is better is # 1 how many day at sea will you have before graduation i will have 330 at graduation # 2 I can go into any branch of the military i want #3 we get a coast guard licence when we graduate, you don't even get that #4 KP's water front is 10 times better then your #5 My pay check is going a lot bigger then yours #6 NYC is our schools playground on the weekends

@mitchikael #1 #2 #4 and #6 are all preference. #1 I really don't care how many days of underway time i get at school. #2 You go to the CGA to go in the coast guard.. the fact that you can't join other services wouldn't be an issue for someone applying for a school to get into the CG. #4 Guess how much time we spend on the waterfront...

@mitchikael #6 Yeah, NYC must be crazy fun with our meager paychecks. Providence is down the road, Boston is an early morning drive, NYC n new haven are a train stop away. Conn Col is an hour north.. Now for #3 and #5. #3 The CGA is already implementing a plan for cadets to get their 3rd mates qual upon graduation. #5 only if you don't join a major service. But with a Masters, PE license, n coast guard quals, guess how much i'll make at the age of 27? $100k+ easy AND I'll come home everyday.
