Pity this asshole has to resort to using other peoples gags....this Mna / Fir routine was first done by the great Sir Peter Ustinov on the Late Late Show with Gay Byrne many years ago.
@ConfusedPingu definitely. Mad when guys like this can only get a laugh by displaying his ignorance,,,and him with a Galeic surname...ah well...give me Tommy Tiernan any day. You want to hear someone take the p- out of us Irish he the man.
@lisduggan64 He was only displaying his good sense of reasoning in a desperate situation! What would you do in a situation where you had to choose something quickly in a foreign language? Select randomly or use your brain to try and figure out?
@ConfusedPingu Not the point....cheap laughs...relying on his audience's prejudices and what the word Irish means in UK to some people is what matters. When all else fails the Brit comedian bring our the race or regional card for a laugh...each to his own. This guy does nothing for me...routines like this only affirm this.
It might have something to do with the joke's inherent awfulness. If I'm in a pub and the jacks are in a foreign language I don't understand, I'll ask. He's making a joke out of nothing. His Irish accent is crap too.
I'm from Ireland and I can safely say that in most areas of Ireland, fir is pronounced as "fear" not "fur". It shouldn't really sound like that because there is no fada, but that's how it's said regardless :L
@littleXjack Think what you like, but that's how we say it in Munster :P Most Gaeltacht areas pronounce it as "fear" as well, and its pronounced the same way on the tapes for the Junior Cert exams :) Maybe they pronounce it differently in Ulster because of the dialect, but that's the pronunciation I was taught and I'm keeping it that way :)
My parents are from Tamhlacht in South Dublin they taught me Gaeilge from an early age whilst getting brough up in N.England, I've always pronounced men as "fur" maybe this is just my northern English accent, I dunno never had any problems when speaking Irish with people.
@ThePatrickUK yeh i'd say it's the accent but people wud understand it of course.. anyway, doesn't really matter, most important thing is that michael mcintyre is funny as hell :D
This is so funny.
