  • "By only eating candy bahs"...I miss my Boston childhood :)

  • Robolar is such a queen... he looks like he would tickle your pickle, when you weren't looking. LMAO :D

  • Who knew that the "Gay-Liberal" agenda was alive and well in the "70s. And I ended up straight? Go figure.

    Awesome post, Thanks!!!!

  • Candy Bahs

  • Oh my God!! Do all Martians sound like they're from Fall River? Where did this guy get his outfit - at the Halloween outlet in

P-Town? This guy has pedophile written all over him

  • The narrator sounds like the man from classic WCVB-TV Channel 5. You would see him in the Sunday Matinee on Channel 5 back in the 70's. I wish I knew his name.

  • I remember this from when I was a kid and we left Massachusetts in 1981. Based on the accent, it appears the Mars is somewhere in the Boston Metro area. It sounds kinda MetroWest, but I may be wrong.

  • NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, LIKE HAVING GROWN UP IN MASSACHUSETTS IN THE 80S.

  • @Hamzazaie, absolutely nothing like growing up in Massachusetts in the 80's? maybe growing up in New Hampshire in the 80's?

  • @tanrat7 You guys mean nothing like growing up in New England in the 70's- 80's. WLVI 56 and Ch25 Boston, was holding it down when it came to our old school goodness. I love the Snipets and Mr. Big Toyland commercials. So friggin CLASSIC. :)

  • @tanrat7 Southern NH yes!

  • I can't believe that I remembered the words to this commercial almost verbatim when I haven't seen it since I was about 6! Some 28 years ago! I thought it was Balthazar from Maahz eating all kinds of candy bahhs! Oh well!

I loved these simpler times when someone could throw on a goofy Martian outfit and do a PSA and use real cheesy props!

Anyone know if the school lunch one with the guy in the lion suit (or some other creature) is around? Pizza! Burgers! Deezert!!!! That one.

  • wow i havent seen this commercial in at least 25 years!!!!!

  • OMG, Robolar was such a flamer. lol Is that Charles Nelson Riley? LOL

  • The only thing I forgot about this spot was his name - ROBOLAR!

Aside from that, I've been reciting tthis commercial to myself for over 20 years.

    Thanks for uploading it.

Oooh it's better than good. It's yummy and not bad!

  • Classic, I remember this one as a kid growing up in Boston

  • that guy was so freaky! I never realized the accent back than.

  • His accent is wicked pissah.

  • wow just brought me back a long time. cool

  • I could never forget this. Ever.

  • You can see his junk.

  • I remember this being on WLVI during the afternoon. Gotta love that Boston accent.

  • my friends and i still joke about this ad.

  • Earth Fruit!!!

  • wait till i tell the utha mahshins about this!

  • i always though his name was robolard

  • I remember this ad from my childhood all too well now that I've seen it again, but I had completely forgotten about it. Wow.

  • Comment removed

  • It's not only good, it's yummy and NOT BAD!

  • AWESOME! Thanks fo the memories. Where you find this?

  • KILLER!! I'm totally laughing my ass off right now. My sister just sent me the link. We grew up on the south shore...wicked pissa!

  • This guy also did an ad as Roger the Carrot that is way more goofy. I used to see it on CH.25 in Boston back in the late 70s and early 80s. You could even send away for the Roger the Carrot poster.

  • I'd forgotten what an unreconstructed Mass. accent he had

  • You are so right! I never noticed the accent when I was a kid.

  • Ditto. He sounds like every hick in Maine crossed with Charles Nelson Reilly! Candy Bahs!

  • I remember this commercial being on all the time after school. Looking at it now, he kind of reminds me of Paul Lynde.

  • just want to thank mark nelson for all these great videos from wlvi 56

  • I alaways thought he said "Robillard". I remember thinking how peculiar it was to see a French-Canadian Martian speaking with a Boston accent.

  • I remember thinking Robolar had no teeth because he was eating lots of candy.

    Thanks!!!

  • Thanks for posting this!!!! Great childhood memory! LOL

  • it's yummy and not bad!

  • The irony of a flaming gay Martian saying "by only eating candy bars we don't know what we miss" is staggering

  • I love how he says "Maahs" and "Candy Baahs" I used to think this was a woman when I was a kid. I guess I didn't know what gay was yet.

  • That's not gay, it's just a raging Boston accent. Not that he doesn't have that lispy gay quality on top of it all...

  • You just gave me back a chunk of my childhood! I remember this being aired on WCVB (Channel 5) during commercial breaks in the equally-odd (and low-budget)kids' TV show "Jabberwocky"...anyone remember THAT show? Filmed locally, just like this commercial, I think! Thanks again for posting this, I'm fav'ing it!

  • Thanks for posting this - 25 years later, words could not describe it.

  • I've been looking for this for the longest time, man am i old :)

  • I remember this. Thanks, I've been looking for it. I forgot how lame "Mars" looked (what, Mars is just a dark room with burlap sacks on the ground?)

I love how he screws up his line, saying "It's good -- It's better than good, it's yummy and not bad!" You can imagine the director either letting it slide because he was either fed up with this clown getting it wrong like 50 times in a row or because he just didn't care. Priceless! - Ron ^*^

  • this warped my mind when i was young i think

  • This is why youtube is the greatest thing EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Most excellent! I've been wanting to see this again for years.

  • Thanks! I've been searching for this! I remembered every word! I love his Boston/Martian accent!!!

  • I definately remember this on Channel 56 with the cartoon host Uncle Dale who also did the voice overs with oscilattor effects for the Creature Double Feature and Creature Feature on Saturdays. Damn, TV was so much better back then

  • Uncle Dale was Dale Dorman, a local DJ. Anyone know if "Albert, now you left your window open & youre wasting heat" has showed up on youtube yet?

  • I think this originally aired on WCVB and then was seen on WLVI ALL THE TIME up until the late 80s

  • Wow, it's been a long time since I've seen this!

    Thanks for posting this!

  • Thanks for posting this! Believe it or not, I've been searching for this for years.

Anyone have a clip of Willie Whistle the clown, or "Snippets", the educational segments with the worm logo between cartoons?

  • Channel 56! Creature Double Feature!!!

  • does anyone have these commercials? i am looking for the charleston chew commercial with the three kings.its so chewy louie.or a tv program called drawing from nature with captain bob cottle.thanks!!

  • ive been looking for chwey louie too, i freakin loved that commercial!

  • been lookin for capt bob too....cant find him, i had a pic on his show.

  • @jayrod49 I remember that one! The guy with the orange hair and all the lights! "It's so chewy Louie, but not too chewy!

  • Yes, yes! Robillard rules. I'd forgotten what a thick Boston accent this Martian had.

And yeah, that ad is definitely from WCVB...that's their old announcer at the end.

  • No, it couldn't have been fox (channel 25), fox wasn't around when this commercial was... it might have been channel 56 (wlvi)

  • I've been laughing w/ friends over the memory of this for years... thank you thank you thank you! (I did have it memorized after all...)

  • Wow!- I remember THIS ad!

    (and Roger the Carrot)

I believe this aired on WCVB Channel 5.

The announcer voice at the end is Frank Avruch.

  • I agree, WCVB 5.

  • These spots were on WLVI channel 56, Modern day UPN 38. If it's even UPN anymore, I don't think so.

  • No, they were on WCVB channel 5 early on Saturday mornings during Jabberwocky, Barbapapa, Super Friends, etc.

    Also, WSBK 38 became UPN-38. WLVI 56 became WB-56

  • I can only reiterate what everyone else has been saying about this classic memory of my Massachusetts childhood. Thank you! Thank you so much! I have been looking for this forever!

  • Thank you so much for that. Those words have been burned in my memory for 25 years and it was great to see the video once again. I *think* it might have been on 56 (WLVI), since I watched lots of "Creature Double Feature" and it seems like this might have been one of the spots.

  • Brilliant! A Martian in a velour jumpsuit with a Boston accent who loves candy bars... Childhood obesity doesn't stand a chance! Oh wait...

  • Thank you so much for posting this. It has been an on-and-off topic of discussion for over a decade between my friends.

Now, which station did this air on? I say 5 (WCVB) and my brother thinks 25 (WFXT).

  • WSBK aired it!

  • I grew up in the Boston area in the early 80s. This is to me the crown jewel of old school TV fodder. He's got a great Boston accent "Candy Bahs". Let's find the Sha-Na-Na sewing spot.

  • If anyone can find the Chow Daddy, that would rule.

  • Here you go!

    Try this one

    LZTOqG7oJRY

  • no i don't.wow thats a tough one to find.

  • Do you have the other one he did as Roger the Carrot ?

  • Do you have Roger the Carrot ?

  • MAAAAshins!lolol

  • wow what a flashback!!

  • WOW I haven't seen this in YEARS! THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!!
