1/4 of vehicle accidents involved pedestrians until they stenciled the info on the road. Now with pedestrians stopping in the middle of the road to read it, the numbers are 3/4.
This is interesting and a good way to create awareness about pedestrian casualties of car dominated-transport infrastructure.
But are these "accidents" -- or just symptoms of bad decision-making?
Also, I think that crosswalks/zebras - even in Netherlands etc. where the driver is almost always at fault in collisions - are merely the most evolved and diplomatic tool for cars to dominate the road (the place you are allowed to cross...).
Idéia boa, mas imprópria... no próprio vídeo aparece um pedestre de jaqueta marrom atravessando a rua lentamente, parando para ler o que estava escrito e quase sendo atropelado.

If pedestrians were held legally responsible for the damage to the cars they step out in front of, pedestrian deaths would drop drastically. Unless a car jumps the curb, pedestrian/car accidents are ALWAYS the ped's fault.
so fucking smart, now people will pay attantion to the crap on the cross-walk instead of watching cars around them, which will cause more accidents, since even when a car driver breaks the law, by not letting a pederastian cross the street, pederastian can still run away
that's a great idea, and a really cool way to remember the pedestrian victims, but, now the pedestrians are looking down and reading the road instead of watching for cars...seems a little on the dangerous side.
if i saw this on my way home one night while drunk/druged up. id be a dead man. id b on my hands and nees in da middle of da road more confused that a hungry baby in stringfellows. resultin in my torso all bent up in someones radiator.
So you are encouraging people to learn the danger of crossing the street by having them pause to read the street while they are in the middle of crossing it? That=self fullfilling prophecy.
How many seconds do you need to realize it's all names and there's nothing else to read? I don't think any pedestrian will stop in the middle of the road to read all the names. Not with a red sign they won't. That's why they made the main copy on the side of the road. Pretty amazing if you ask me.

hear hear!
But even when its the ped's fault, its is often the vehicle driver who is prosecuted. (unless it can be proven that the ped was drunk or drugged)

just a quick info:
People only cross when there's green traffic light, so there's no risk being hit, as many have pointed out.
Unless, of course you're really slow ... :)
It's supposed to be read from the sidewalk.

"supposed to", unfortunately, humans have a problem with understanding and do a lot of dumb things as a result.

Same agency did an advert for the Honda CR-V 4x4 called "Dress For It", one of the most dangerous type of cars for pedestrians that there is.

FYI, there aren't no known victims until the moment due to this zebra crossing (and i bet there will never be).
Yet there have been a lot of them due to careless drivers.

Yeah, so delete my comments, nice...

surely anything that distracts someone from watching the road when crossing is insane i think it is unconsidered . so many holes in this idea
