Chris Pine got his butt kicked 5 times in one movie. William Shatner defeated Spock, Klingon commanders, gorn, and any other alien he had to battle. Shatner would have even judo chopped the Borg!!!
Pine managed to capture Kirks, mischievous energy, amazingly. I was distraught at the idea of Kirk played by a different actor, but he stayed true to the soul of Kirk, while honoring the great Bill Shatner in the process. In general, I liked the new movie - and I agree, Karl Urban was DEFINITELY the best one. The one thing I hated was that they really focused on Kirk, Spock, and UHURA as the "trio." Like, in all the posters...it was always Kirk in the middle, surrounded by Spock and Uhura. Now, I have nothing against Uhura...but Kirk, Spock, and MCCOY are the Golden Trio! And it barely even showed...!
Needless to say, I'm hoping for some more Kirk + Spock + McCoy friendship-trio scenes in the next film. :)
@CarlisleEsmeluv I give this an extra thumbs up! I was scratching my head at all the Kirk/Spock/Uhura stuff! I thought Zoe did fine, but the original trifecta Kirk/Spock/McCoy should be more focused on in the next movie! I really got tired of all the posters/glasses/everything not having McCoy on them!
The first thought when I heard about the new star trek movie and saw some of the Trailers, I was thinking, "No way, they can't redo star trek. However, when i watched it I was actually amazed how good it was. On the other hand, I hope that in this next movie JJ is making, he does not use the flashlight flares so much. Bill? Shatster? Do us all a favor will ya? Explain the reason the Enterprise had to put up their SHIELDS! Minus the Klingon phasers, and photon torpedoes...You know, for the gamma ray bursts, solar particle events, X-ray flares, micrometeroites, and constant, isotropic galactic background radiation, created by all those events, constantly happening in magnetopshere-free space! Come on Bill, speak some space truth! I fucking dare you!!!
It's entertainment, don't center your life around it. Unless someone can produce a peer reviewed essay on the physics of a warp core or photon torpedoes or klingon phasers, you really shouldn't be so concerned with it, k?
For the Trekkies who hate the new movie, Walter Koegin is the only member of the original cast I haven't heard or read about him saying anything about it. Shatner and Nichols wanted to be in it, Tiki voiced his support for the new guy playing Sulu (despite the fact he's of Korean not Japanese decent), and of course Nimoy is in it.
I haven't heard a single negative word about it from the original cast for you Trekkies who hated it.
@southparkfan2717 It's Koenig, not Koegin. Also, it's Takei, not Tiki.
I have not seen the new movie, so I will not say anything regarding that, except Kirk isn't supposed to wear black and the actors look very different from their TOS counterparts.
@StarCraftPilot I hate your type. Okay I got Takei's name spelled wrong, but "Koenig" is an honest error, so who gives a shit?
The black is his Starfleet cadet uniform which he is still wearing because Bones brought him on board the Enterprise after he was suspended for changing the programing of the Kobayashi Maru. At the end he's in the yellow Captains uniform.
I'm surprised you didn't attack me for calling Koenig and original member when he wasn't introduced until season 2.
if i met him i would definitely pick a fight with shatner while growling like a klingon. i want him to knock me out with the supersonic-butt-bomb he once used in the original series. god, i love this guy!
It did'nt choose to have this engine nacelle orientation and besides, PHASER fire is still PHASER fire no matter what your shield geometry. May V'GER bless and process your data patterns.
OooKaaay-GAY MARRIAGE. all for it but what does that have to do with anything here? Now GAY ALIEN MARRIAGE-GAYLIENS-that is so a hot button topic. Very debatable and politicized with rightwing extremists on one side and big corporate money on the other, all pushing their agenda's in this REALM OF SCIENCE FICTION!! Yes the Enterprise has been through a few life changes to it's hull but ya know, pre-refit or post-refit, it's still the same warp core. It should be able to dock w any ship it wants.
Strange coincidence, Chris Pike was Kirk's predecessor, who would have thought that the actor who was to portray the younger Kirk would be Chris Pine - Just thought it was kind of weird
I sometimes think that JJ made this movie just to watch new fans and die hard ones try to kill each other... DX And yes, TOS Star Trek ALL THE WAY PEOPLE!!!
Hehe - Pine looks so pleased (and just a tad nervous) to be able to say hello to Shatner. For my part, I thought the movie (STXI) was simply brilliant, not least of all because of the actors. The 'reboot' worked for me- same recipe, but with a little more pizazz in the ingredients (Spock embracing his pain and humanity a little more due to the loss of his mother and the subsequent admission of love by his father, Kirk being a little more of a bad boy thanks to the loss of his father, etc.).
I hated the new star trek, but I have to confess: Karl Urban was AMAZING as McCoy, I had the feeling Deforest Kelley was back from the dead and young again!
The second and last thing I liked was Chris Pine. He wasn't as wonderful as Karl, but he did a fairly good job.
The worst thing was Quinto and Zaldana, they were so unlike Nimoy and Nichols!
@msinvincible2000 Hey fanboy, it's called a reboot for a reason. It was set in a parallel universe, a shifted reality from TOS and therefore they led different lives and were different people from the original. Appreciate it for what it is and get out of the 60's. Just...let...the past...die...KHAAAAANNN!
It would be funny to see Chris Pine do the "Spock... do you... think it's..... a new phenomenon.... or.... a life form...? That stuttering sentence thing was a typical Kirk comedy bit.
I'm more than happy with them both. Captain Kirk was my number one role model, like a lot of other guys. But I have no problem with Chris Pine, loved how different he was in the role, and now I feel like I have it all back to live over again, differently this time.
How often in life do we feel like we get to have something so awesome back to do over again?
I've seen the movie five times now, and I'm still stoked.
I thought Chris Pine was awesome as James T Kirk-as were the other actors as Bones, Scotty, et al. But there will never be another William Shatner as James T Kirk! Always loved Star Trek in all of its versions-especially TNG as a runner up!
@MrVeesworld No no no.IT more like"welcome to the family chris" william shatner is an inviting sort of guy as is nemoy. Its so sad that kelly is no longer among the living. He too was a familiy oriented fella.Shatner, nemoy were raised as friendly family guys as they are jewish and are family men at heart. They are used to big family gatherings when growing up too.Cmon Mr. vees.Join the family son.
ya know what gets me? How he kept calling him "Mr. Shatner" in the interviews on the DVD. If he called him William Shatner would he get sued or something?!
@StephenColbertRulz It's a little thing called respect. You generally don't refer to your professional seniors (or life, in general) by first name unless you know them on a personal level.
@CaptainPimpSlap well what would've been so bad about calling him "Shatner" or "William Shatner" as opposed to "Mr. Shatner" all the time? lol he looks like he's having to concentrate on saying it right.
@StephenColbertRulz I think it's simply because Chris himself is in a position NONE of us will ever experience. He's taking on a role that the man he's referring to made legendary, so he's treating him with respect. We ALL know he's William Shatner but Chris is the one who had to talk about him in a professional manner. :3
@StephenColbertRulz Chris Pine was probably trying to show Shatner respect by calling him "Mr. Shatner", plus since he obviously doesn't know him, he doesn't want to come across as rude or insensitive by calling him "William Shatner" or "Bill". I get the impression Pine carefully chooses his words because he knows he may be evisciarated by the public for saying the wrong thing since he's stepping into such legendary shoes.
@gothatway09 probably so...hmm...i kinda feel sorry for the guy...and while I grew up on Shatner's Kirk being my number one role model as a kid, I still think Pine did a great job. It'll be interesting to see how he acts in the captain's chair FOR REAL next movie.
I was surprised at how well Pine pulled off Kirk. His mannerisms during the Kobayashi Maru scene are what sold me. If that wasn't Kirk, I don't know what was (besides Shatner of course).
@dfoxx007 I was surprised at how good the whole movie was. It was different from the other movies, but still held true to Star Trek. I can't wait for the second one!
@dthejc Keep in mind, this was the alternate future Kirk...more smart-ass and contemptuous of authority having grown up without his father. I suspect the original Kirk probably WAS more subtle about it (and so didn't get put up on charges, unlike the new Kirk). The new one couldn't care less about being caught, he just wanted to shove it in their faces.
@dfoxx007 not only does he do those mannerisms and that lovely "Bones!" at the end of the flick, but that he took the time to bother with it... that he respects the fans enough to take time out of his day to practice it, that really should shut up the haters. these films are gonna get made whether a few disgruntled people like it or not, and they're trying their very best to please us... i think that deserves respect at the very least.
i liked pine as Kirk, the script let him down a little i think. But it wasn't terrible and I had a great time watching it. Surely the sequels can only get better...
If you're really dying to see Shatner as Kirk again (and who isn't?), there's always the possibility of recreating the TOS stars and sets in photo-realistic CG. Character voices could be sampled and re-processed digitally. Can independents make this happen?

Chris is like... beaming with respect when he approaches Shatner. Awesome to see. He did a great job as the new Captain Kirk given the expectations (in my opinion)
@Lennac For me personally, Karl Urban stole the whole show, his performance has bones was by far the best of the whole cast. Additional: Uhura looks very hot.
@Lennac He's so effing cute XD and humbled by meeting the man who played the role he just took over for 40yrs. And I think it's great how sweet Will Shatner seems here too.
@petujaymz Bitch has a T in it just like Troll. and i'm 16, AND skinny. you fail "bich". i'll go ahead and block you now so i don't have to deal with you anymore.
That last Trek movie sucked so much. The story was stupid and full of holes. The characters were incredibly shallow. The Enterprise bridge looked like a make up counter at a salon, while engineering looked like a re-dressed warehouse (which it was). I wish it had never been made... Now they are talking about making a sequel. Maybe it'll flop and they can get back to making an actual Trek movie instead of another steaming pile of crap.
@ThamelasStormrage I thought the bridge looked more like an Apple store and engineering was actually filmed in a brewery but ithe film didn't flop which means there will be more. The franchise goes boldly on..
I think the strongest part of the movie was Karl Urban's performance but apart from that I wasn't too keen either :-(
@ThamelasStormrage The film was meant to get younger generations into Star Trek. They were not trying to meet the impossibly high expectations of the long time Trekkie community.
@ThamelasStormrage You can tell it was influenced heavily by a Star Wars Fan (JJA) I thought the actors did a great job, I think the set designers, the writers, and JJA should be taken out back and smacked with pain sticks until they realize what a Star Trek set looks like and what a ST story should be. The TOS & TNG movies weren't always good, but the sheer stupidity of STXI makes me angry. The actors deserved better.
They both acted like gentlemen, and good for them. I just wish the blonde had moved aside a bit so we could have actually seen the meeting. I loved the movie, but I grew up with you, Bill, and you're the one who made Kirk what he still is today. It'd be great if they could find something for you in the next one.
I wish, Obama would go home and make his place free in the White House, so that William Shattner could take his position as a president of the USA. An "unreal" Captain Kirk who did rule the minds of the people in the whole world in a positive way, has also the right to rule America with his personal authority in reality. When the hope for a good future ends, the world is dead. Captain Kirk on the Enterprise was the best man for our future.
@Usouffrir Thank's for your honest opinion to my statement.
When I was a little child, I learned to get respect of older people.
When I got older, I did see, that most of my respect of old people was wasted because they have destroyed minds. Mr. William Shatner has still my respect in work for film-industry and for living his life in private.
He is special, not only as "Captain Kirk". He is special by himself. And I hope he will get the best appreciation what a human person on earth ever got.
Why wasn't there a matter/anti-matter explosion? It's one of those basic tenets you learn on Star Trek. Two Kirks can't possibly exist at the same time!!
ComicBookGo and Btflash? If you're going to argue about something as stupid as original superman, do it in a private message. no one wants to hear swear like that. this is a trekkie video, not a dc one.
Bill Shatner should've knocked that chump out. Then, looking down on him, wearing that cowboy hat, said: "that's how James T Kirk fights, you seem to get your ass handed to you evertime you play me". LOL!!
@Keytaster Bill Shatner as his best!!! Anyone with common sense has to admit that Shatner was far better as Denny Crane on Boston Legal than he ever could of dreamed of being in Star Trek
He was probably a better Kirk than Shatner, but I'm not sure many can top Shatner as Denny Crane. He got so into character sometimes I thought that Bill had altheimers. It is only too bad it took so long for Shatner and David E. Kelley to hook up. But Roddenbury probably never hit Shatners wheel house like writer David Kelley.
@OropherThranduil Again personally I was never impressed with George Reeves as superman and Reeves himself thought the part was beneath him. I would take Routh over George Reeves any day, and for that matter I would take Christofer Reeves over George Reeves any day to. George is the same case as Shatner, he over played the part.
well, you should always consider the times when the series were made, i'm also a big fan of adam west and the infantino style batman of the mid 60s, i don't think you can overplay captain james tiberius kirk, since shatners overplaying is what makes kirk so cool, without him playing like he did i dont think a lot of people would have dig the series.
@OropherThranduil Comparing Adam West to other Batmans is like comparing Don Adams as 86 to Shawn Connery as 007. 1960s Batman was a comedic satire. To say the show would not have been as good without Shatner is a major slap in Gene Roddenbury's face. Star Trek was brilliant because it was very allagorical! Star Trek was brillian because of the characters personality differances. Anal vs. oral personalities has been done 100 times since the odd couple, but Id, ego, super ego is rare even today
@OropherThranduil You are like most people that don't understand the impact of a writer on a show. When I'm looking for a show to watch I never look at the cast, I look at the writers. Try watching any David E. Kelley show after he stops writing for his shows or try The West Wing after Arron Sorkin stops writing for it. Great cast but after the good writer leaves the show the show goes downhill.
@blabbermouth777 the only show I know of that was affected by cast changes is Mash. (Movie was made into TV series). When Mclane Stevenson and Wayne Rodgers left the show, but the last season with those two actors was not as much fun as the other seasons, so much could be a change in writers or writing style, as I am sure not many had heard of the series Mash, do you really think that Elliot Gould is that much of a better actor than Wayne Rodgers, or could it be the movie was better written?
@blabbermouth777 By the way, George Reeves is not the first to play superman either. I never liked any of the TV versions of Superman. Again I think George Reeves playing superman is another example of the movie actor toping the TV actor with both Routh and Christofer Reeves just like the movie version of Kirk is better than the TV version of Kirk.
@blabbermouth777 kirk alyn was the original superman.i have to disagree with you geroge reeves in every aspect of the character was superman. while chris reeve had a stronger physical resembalence to the comic book character george reeves had the personna down pat chris reeve never got it right. he always appeared to be a bit soft. you are correct he felt the role was beneath him but that was a testament to his ability as an actor in that he still was able to portray the character properly.
@btflash55 The reason Chris Reeves was better than George Reeves was the contrast of Clark Kent and Kal El. Chris Reeves made Clark awkward and clumsy and Kal El strong and powerful. But Reeves also brought a humor to the character and made the character more believable.
@btflash55 I actually threw out George Reeves name to make fun of some guy that thought that Superman was originaly played by Chris Reeves but he only threw out the last name Reeves so I played it like he was talking about or even knew who George Reeves was, and I did say some one else played superman before him but I said I didnt' know who.
@blabbermouth777 actually i thought his portrayal made him less believable. i always hated the comedic and bumbling idiot kent routine that he did. it was nothing like the kent from the comics. george reeves interpretation was much more true to the character.
@btflash55 Techinically it wasn't Chris Reeves that made the Clark Kent alias bumbling to contrast Superman or whatever his Kryton name is and maybe it wasn't like that in the comic book, but the comic book can be improved on sometimes. Considering that the screen writer wrote one of the few sequals to be considered a classic not to mention the original Godfather, I think he can take creative licence over the comic book writers. Bottom line, George Reeves boring and Chris Reeves fun.
@blabbermouth777 george reeves was boring "in your opinion" not mine.while the godfather is a classic i dont believe any critic would call the script to superman the movie classic.the comic superman is perhaps the most iconic superhero ever created and as far as im concerned the unrealistic and bumbling portrayal of kent by reeve did nothing to improve upon that. btw its chris reeve not reeves.
@btflash55 I'll be dammed, and when I was a kid I thought it was so ironic that the two Supermen that I knew the best had the same last name and only now I find out they didn't. The bumbling was just one small part of why I liked Reeve better than Reevessss. I liked that Reeve was a bit of a smart ass as superman and showed conflict of him being an alien and protecting earthlings with his love for Lois. Ya, he always did love her, but Puzo and Reeve brought it out more. Maybe if Reeves had a be
@blabbermouth777 better script he would have been more fun. I liked that I got to laugh during the movie. I liked that the villian had more color than the every day thugs that were on the tv show. Gene Hackmen is probably one of the funnest villians in movie history. The underground lair that Lex Luther had. The show superman would fly in during a bank robbery and let some bullets bounce off his chest than bend their guns maybe kick some ass than had them to the cops. Than Lois would say
@blabbermouth777 You missed it again Clark. This all started with Pine vs. Shatner as I recall. I had to remember what started this. The writing became more sophosicated so it could be enjoyed more. Why does it have to stay the same and simple because thats the way it was in the comics. They adding stuff at least. Try watching films based upon a novel, those changes i usually hate mainly because they take stuff away from the book. Maybe you seen a sappy movie called The Prince Of Tides.
@blabbermouth777 That book was as much of a suspense thriller as it was a love story, but Barbara Straisain fired Pat Conroy and it became sappy. But Puzo only added really, he didn't take things out like screen writers do for novels. Only movie that I can say is better than the book is MASH, but that is just because Robert Altman was an incredible director. I imagine that Bond movies are more fun to watch than Flemmings novels, but I can't say. But my point is they are adding to the comic books
@blabbermouth777 another fun fact about chris reeve is that in superman 3&4 he was bald and wore a hairpiece. he had a skin disease called alopecia and lost his hair.
@btflash55 As far as I'm concerned the realistic and bumbling portrayal of kent by reeve did everything the comic character had done who was a timid and shy bumbling fool in contrast to the mighty Superman. Not only did Reeve's realistic and bumbling portrayal of kent reflect this fact, it even improved upon it by showing it in reality. The whole schtick of why the Kent disguise works is because we look down on what we consider foolish. A higher mind can see past it, a mind like the SHADOW
@ComicBookGo the original incarnation of kent was one of a timid man , not a bumbling fool!i do not feel that chris reeve portraying the character that way was either true to the original creators intent nor realistic as he portrayed him! just my opinion and you are certainly entitled to your own.
@btflash55 Without having hypocrisy or bias, if the bar being held is at "Original Incarnation" then Chris Reeve and all other actors are to be criticized since they play a FLYING superman. The Original Incarnation of superman canNOT fly, nor did he have red boots, nor did he have heat vision. So by the bar you're comparing to, by simple logic all said actors are to be critisized. FAct: Chris Reeve still played the kent IN the comics; a bumbling fool. Reeve reflected the comix.
@ComicBookGo FACT: your wrong. he did indeed have red boots as evidenced by the cover of action # 1 and began flying in 1941 in the max fleischer cartoons which aired during the original run of superman by his creators!he also had the ability to disguise himself by controlling and changing his facial muscles and his heat vision and x ray vision are a byproduct of his telescopic vision which also appeared in his initial run.nice try though, pal!please get your facts straight !
@ComicBookGo as an aside in a magazine interview in 1979 none other that jerome siegal himself said that reeve,s bumbling portrayal was not the way the character of kent had been written. so go ahead.... argue with the man who was co creator of superman! i guess you know better than him too, huh?
@btflash55 Use yer head pal, no one here said that the original incarnation did not have a strong bumbling portrayal. So go on ahead....find out who said that here: and you'll only find you talking to yourself. "If the bar being held is at 'Original Incarnation' then Chris Reeve and ALL other actors are to be criticized since they play a FLYING superman". Kinda missed the point there didn't you?
@ComicBookGo wrong again! i said the original portrayal wasnt bumbling!talking to myself would certainly be preferable to talking to a know-nothing like you!lol i see in many of your posts you act like an authority but get many of your so-called facts wrong!you have been proven to be incorrect in your statements ....so if anyone has missed the point its you, pal!

Nobody will be like William Shatner or the rest of the old crew Good new actors Yes love the new Macoy and the rest are very good younger versions.
But the old crew was top.. Imagine them now if they were young and they had the tech we have today to make new T.V series.

Yes.Pine manages to seem like the Kirk of the original series, just ten-fifteen years younger.
JRobbySh 8 months ago

The worst thing was Quinto and Zaldana, they were so unlike Nimoy and Nichols!
msinvincible2000 8 months ago
@msinvincible2000 Hey fanboy, it's called a reboot for a reason. It was set in a parallel universe, a shifted reality from TOS and therefore they led different lives and were different people from the original. Appreciate it for what it is and get out of the 60's.

StephenColbertRulz 11 months ago
@StephenColbertRulz It's a little thing called respect. You generally don't refer to your professional seniors (or life, in general) by first name unless you know them on a personal level.
CaptainPimpSlap 11 months ago
@CaptainPimpSlap well what would've been so bad about calling him "Shatner" or "William Shatner" as opposed to "Mr. Shatner" all the time? lol he looks like he's having to concentrate on saying it right.
StephenColbertRulz 11 months ago
@StephenColbertRulz I think it's simply because Chris himself is in a position NONE of us will ever experience. He's taking on a role that the man he's referring to made legendary, so he's treating him with respect. We ALL know he's William Shatner but Chris is the one who had to talk about him in a professional manner. :3

CaptainPimpSlap 11 months ago
@CaptainPimpSlap eh...thanks, but....i find myself wishing i didn't have it more and more...
StephenColbertRulz 11 months ago
@StephenColbertRulz Chris Pine was probably trying to show Shatner respect by calling him "Mr. Shatner", plus since he obviously doesn't know him, he doesn't want to come across as rude or insensitive by calling him "William Shatner" or "Bill". I get the impression Pine carefully chooses his words because he knows he may be evisciarated by the public for saying the wrong thing since he's stepping into such legendary shoes.

dthejc 6 months ago
@dthejc Keep in mind, this was the alternate future Kirk...more smart-ass and contemptuous of authority having grown up without his father. I suspect the original Kirk probably WAS more subtle about it (and so didn't get put up on charges, unlike the new Kirk). The new one couldn't care less about being caught, he just wanted to shove it in their faces.
Shular67 6 months ago
@dfoxx007 not only does he do those mannerisms and that lovely "Bones!" at the end of the flick, but that he took the time to bother with it... that he respects the fans enough to take time out of his day to practice it, that really should shut up the haters. these films are gonna get made whether a few disgruntled people like it or not, and they're trying their very best to please us... i think that deserves respect at the very least.

If you're really dying to see Shatner as Kirk again (and who isn't?), there's always the possibility of recreating the TOS stars and sets in photo-realistic CG. Character voices could be sampled and re-processed digitally. Can independents make this happen?

That last Trek movie sucked so much. The story was stupid and full of holes. The characters were incredibly shallow. The Enterprise bridge looked like a make up counter at a salon, while engineering looked like a re-dressed warehouse (which it was). I wish it had never been made... Now they are talking about making a sequel. Maybe it'll flop and they can get back to making an actual Trek movie instead of another steaming pile of crap.

@ThamelasStormrage Two sequels have been confirmed. Please film yourself reading this and send it to me. Pretty please?

@ThamelasStormrage I thought the bridge looked more like an Apple store and engineering was actually filmed in a brewery but ithe film didn't flop which means there will be more. The franchise goes boldly on..

There is only one real Captain Kirk.
William Shattner.

He was probably a better Kirk than Shatner, but I'm not sure many can top Shatner as Denny Crane. He got so into character sometimes I thought that Bill had altheimers. It is only too bad it took so long for Shatner and David E. Kelley to hook up. But Roddenbury probably never hit Shatners wheel house like writer David Kelley.
blabbermouth777 1 year ago
@blabbermouth777
OH, come on, he can't be better as Kirk since Shnatner kinda IS Kirk, the kirk we know moves like shatner, talks like shatner, looks like shatner.
it's like saying Routh is better than Reeve(s).
OropherThranduil 1 year ago
@OropherThranduil Again personally I was never impressed with George Reeves as superman and Reeves himself thought the part was beneath him. I would take Routh over George Reeves any day, and for that matter I would take Christofer Reeves over George Reeves any day to. George is the same case as Shatner, he over played the part.
blabbermouth777 1 year ago
@blabbermouth777
well, you should always consider the times when the series were made, i'm also a big fan of adam west and the infantino style batman of the mid 60s, i don't think you can overplay captain james tiberius kirk, since shatners overplaying is what makes kirk so cool, without him playing like he did i dont think a lot of people would have dig the series.
OropherThranduil 1 year ago
@OropherThranduil Comparing Adam West to other Batmans is like comparing Don Adams as 86 to Shawn Connery as 007. 1960s Batman was a comedic satire. To say the show would not have been as good without Shatner is a major slap in Gene Roddenbury's face. Star Trek was brilliant because it was very allagorical! Star Trek was brillian because of the characters personality differances. Anal vs. oral personalities has been done 100 times since the odd couple, but Id, ego, super ego is rare even today
blabbermouth777 1 year ago
@OropherThranduil You are like most people that don't understand the impact of a writer on a show. When I'm looking for a show to watch I never look at the cast, I look at the writers. Try watching any David E. Kelley show after he stops writing for his shows or try The West Wing after Arron Sorkin stops writing for it. Great cast but after the good writer leaves the show the show goes downhill.
blabbermouth777 1 year ago
@blabbermouth777 the only show I know of that was affected by cast changes is Mash. (Movie was made into TV series). When Mclane Stevenson and Wayne Rodgers left the show, but the last season with those two actors was not as much fun as the other seasons, so much could be a change in writers or writing style, as I am sure not many had heard of the series Mash, do you really think that Elliot Gould is that much of a better actor than Wayne Rodgers, or could it be the movie was better written?
blabbermouth777 1 year ago
@blabbermouth777 By the way, George Reeves is not the first to play superman either. I never liked any of the TV versions of Superman. Again I think George Reeves playing superman is another example of the movie actor toping the TV actor with both Routh and Christofer Reeves just like the movie version of Kirk is better than the TV version of Kirk.
blabbermouth777 1 year ago
@blabbermouth777 kirk alyn was the original superman.i have to disagree with you geroge reeves in every aspect of the character was superman. while chris reeve had a stronger physical resembalence to the comic book character george reeves had the personna down pat chris reeve never got it right. he always appeared to be a bit soft. you are correct he felt the role was beneath him but that was a testament to his ability as an actor in that he still was able to portray the character properly.
btflash55 1 year ago
@btflash55 The reason Chris Reeves was better than George Reeves was the contrast of Clark Kent and Kal El. Chris Reeves made Clark awkward and clumsy and Kal El strong and powerful. But Reeves also brought a humor to the character and made the character more believable.
blabbermouth777 1 year ago
@btflash55 I actually threw out George Reeves name to make fun of some guy that thought that Superman was originaly played by Chris Reeves but he only threw out the last name Reeves so I played it like he was talking about or even knew who George Reeves was, and I did say some one else played superman before him but I said I didnt' know who.
blabbermouth777 1 year ago
@blabbermouth777 actually i thought his portrayal made him less believable. i always hated the comedic and bumbling idiot kent routine that he did. it was nothing like the kent from the comics. george reeves interpretation was much more true to the character.
btflash55 1 year ago
@btflash55 Techinically it wasn't Chris Reeves that made the Clark Kent alias bumbling to contrast Superman or whatever his Kryton name is and maybe it wasn't like that in the comic book, but the comic book can be improved on sometimes. Considering that the screen writer wrote one of the few sequals to be considered a classic not to mention the original Godfather, I think he can take creative licence over the comic book writers. Bottom line, George Reeves boring and Chris Reeves fun.
blabbermouth777 1 year ago
@blabbermouth777 george reeves was boring "in your opinion" not mine.while the godfather is a classic i dont believe any critic would call the script to superman the movie classic.the comic superman is perhaps the most iconic superhero ever created and as far as im concerned the unrealistic and bumbling portrayal of kent by reeve did nothing to improve upon that. btw its chris reeve not reeves.
btflash55 1 year ago
@btflash55 I'll be dammed, and when I was a kid I thought it was so ironic that the two Supermen that I knew the best had the same last name and only now I find out they didn't. The bumbling was just one small part of why I liked Reeve better than Reevessss. I liked that Reeve was a bit of a smart ass as superman and showed conflict of him being an alien and protecting earthlings with his love for Lois. Ya, he always did love her, but Puzo and Reeve brought it out more. Maybe if Reeves had a be
blabbermouth777 1 year ago
@blabbermouth777 better script he would have been more fun. I liked that I got to laugh during the movie. I liked that the villian had more color than the every day thugs that were on the tv show. Gene Hackmen is probably one of the funnest villians in movie history. The underground lair that Lex Luther had. The show superman would fly in during a bank robbery and let some bullets bounce off his chest than bend their guns maybe kick some ass than had them to the cops. Than Lois would say
blabbermouth777 1 year ago
@blabbermouth777 You missed it again Clark. This all started with Pine vs. Shatner as I recall. I had to remember what started this. The writing became more sophosicated so it could be enjoyed more. Why does it have to stay the same and simple because thats the way it was in the comics. They adding stuff at least. Try watching films based upon a novel, those changes i usually hate mainly because they take stuff away from the book. Maybe you seen a sappy movie called The Prince Of Tides.
blabbermouth777 1 year ago
@blabbermouth777 That book was as much of a suspense thriller as it was a love story, but Barbara Straisain fired Pat Conroy and it became sappy. But Puzo only added really, he didn't take things out like screen writers do for novels. Only movie that I can say is better than the book is MASH, but that is just because Robert Altman was an incredible director. I imagine that Bond movies are more fun to watch than Flemmings novels, but I can't say. But my point is they are adding to the comic books
blabbermouth777 1 year ago
not deleting from the comic books like they do novels.
blabbermouth777 1 year ago
@blabbermouth777 another fun fact about chris reeve is that in superman 3&4 he was bald and wore a hairpiece. he had a skin disease called alopecia and lost his hair.
btflash55 1 year ago
@btflash55 As far as I'm concerned the realistic and bumbling portrayal of kent by reeve did everything the comic character had done who was a timid and shy bumbling fool in contrast to the mighty Superman. Not only did Reeve's realistic and bumbling portrayal of kent reflect this fact, it even improved upon it by showing it in reality. The whole schtick of why the Kent disguise works is because we look down on what we consider foolish. A higher mind can see past it, a mind like the SHADOW
ComicBookGo 1 year ago
@ComicBookGo the original incarnation of kent was one of a timid man , not a bumbling fool!i do not feel that chris reeve portraying the character that way was either true to the original creators intent nor realistic as he portrayed him! just my opinion and you are certainly entitled to your own.
btflash55 1 year ago
@btflash55 Without having hypocrisy or bias, if the bar being held is at "Original Incarnation" then Chris Reeve and all other actors are to be criticized since they play a FLYING superman. The Original Incarnation of superman canNOT fly, nor did he have red boots, nor did he have heat vision. So by the bar you're comparing to, by simple logic all said actors are to be critisized. FAct: Chris Reeve still played the kent IN the comics; a bumbling fool. Reeve reflected the comix.
ComicBookGo 1 year ago
