  • i think its just your awesome playing making the difference.

  • Wow, I always looked at these SX as completelly crappy and cheap guitars. They go for a $100 bucks new here in the US. I may get one now just to try it out. Nice licks BTW!

  • @lapwiz it's a more than decent start point, and this thin line tele is rather good even stock (some other sx has terrible hardware stock, but for the price even the wood is a interesting option for mods)

  • @rafport I just ordered one online for $90 bucks brand new. I have some hot tele USA pickups. I'm curious to hear how they would sound on the SX. Yours sounds like the action is a bit high, true or not? Oh, Just got a new MIM tele black top for 400 on ebay. Silver with two humbuckers. If you need parts for any project, drop me a line. They're cheap here in the US. I live near NYC and there are loads of stuff around here. Loved the sound of the P GENEX. I have one of those all stock.

  • @lapwiz this was the brand new guitar with a quick setup, so action was not bad and you can put the action you prefer (i'm using now 11-49 gauge with medium action, not too low). what you should do immediately is the change of the nut, because it's of very cheap plastic stuff and has a big role in the (un)tuning. a graptech tusq standard for fender is just few dollars and fit perfectly with no work and improve a lot the performance. thank you for your purpose, but shipment to italy will cost

  • @lapwiz more than the possible saving of money (and here it should be an extra taxation for the incoming stuff from outside, because we pay 21% of any buy and this percentage should be added to the foreign buys). so thank you :) luckily some nice stuff ad interesting prices can be found here too (with US prices all is cheaper, but with shipments and taxes usually it is better buy into european country for us)

  • great too hear someone who uploads a guitar vid and CAN play...thank you!!!!!

  • @TheXXXDB thank you!

  • Sounds good I'd still go with a Classic Vibe Squier !

  • Hi,

    Great playing man!

I got mine today and already love the sound.

BIG problem are the tuners, the thing won't last one complete song in tune!

You have any tips on replacing them? You think Gotoh or Wilkinsons will fit or do I have to drill?

  • @bouwt you just need to change the nut, i'm still with original tuners (and i changed everything else). a graptech tusq nut with pre cutter hole for fender fit in a perfect way (it fitted mine at least, but i got 2 sx and was ok in both)

  • @rafport Alright, I'll give that a try! Can't wait to gig with the thing as soon as the tuning problem is solved! Thanks alot!

  • im sooooooooooooo sick of hearing blues every time i look up a semi-hollow!!!!!

  • is this for rockabilly n country or only for blues n funk??

  • i have this guitar but i really dont like the multiple logos on the headstock. Is there any way to remove the logo without sanding/ or painting it?

  • @XB0XFR34K i guess you can't, because written are under the transparent painting so you should sand it to remove both

  • @rafport after i sand it down, do you know what i should use to reapply on the headstock to get the same finish

  • @XB0XFR34K i really don't know, but i fear you can't do a clean work sanding and finishing all headstock: i mean i fear it will be visible (and not nice to see) a such work. as on ebay you can find at cheap prices, maybe it will be better for you buy a bulk neck for telecaster and apply on them stickers you want

  • awsome tone.

  • @wwwsuneowwww thanks

  • Excellent tone and playing! Convinced me to buy an SX Tele!

  • @MattStottmann thank you

  • Your reviews have really helped me gain a clear idea of how these guitars sound. Great job showing the various pickup sounds, and great playing too. Thanks.

  • @vampyros1 thank you, check to newer video too (this one is pretty old) with some little mod, now this is really a great sounding telecaster. see you!

  • Is your guitar the same as this one that's for sale now (SX Furrian semi-hollow)?

I'm not sure that the one they sell now is the "Vintage Series". Anyone have any idea? I love the sound of this thing.

    Thanks.

  • what thickness of the neck is it?

  • yea! that neck looks good, what size is it?

  • @EmmyRocker1 same scale of a tele, a bit fatter like older teles

  • Hi Raf. i had wrote you before. Now I have this awesome guitar and i so glad .Thank you. But i have little problem. Ok. I have problem with pickups with the overdriven sound. actually im so glad for the color of the sound. but in when i go overdrive, feedback sound appers suddenly. how can i solve this problem without dont losing the my stock pickups sound? i can replace with some new pickups(dimarzio ,duncan ect) but which one solve my feedback problem. Am i need a humcanceling pickup ?

  • @metebir very good for your buy! yes, you can change pickups but if you like their tone that should be last step. you need to explain me better something about you feedback:

    - what tone you use and what amp

    - how loud it is

    - where you are respect the amp

    - feedback is same of both pickup

    - feedback decrease or stop if you turn over amp

noiseless pickup are for 60hz hum, feedback usually has other causes. is something regarding shielding (or exagerate gain and volume at same time)

  • @rafport

-i use a boss gt 10's Rat pedal sim (drive lvl was 57/120---patch lvl was 150/170) And fender Frontman 212R amp (clean channel volume was 2/10)(i suppose my patch level was too much so that gives FB)

-i said the loud in the upper answer:)

-i was close the amp but i turned my back.

-feedback was more in the bridge it was going ease

-actually i didnt try it. i played in a Practicing studio

i understood my problem is the gain and volume issue. but im not sure. I waitin your ans. Thx

  • @rafport it was DS 's patch level i think it was near 150/190 and my compresor was after distordion pedal in the fx chain. it gives too much power and overboosted the sound... thanks for your help... :)

  • @metebir very good. compression, distortion and volume should be used in a careful way (not all high or surely will be problems, it need a correct mixage). bye!

  • Sir, how do you record your video? Do you split the audio & video or record directly with the audio & video?

  • @setapartkid all my vids are recorded in real time, i just set in the video capture the audio source with the pod or now with the tonelab. when you install into a pc a usb pedalboard, operation system recognize as another audio card, so you just need to choose the input of the effect as audio source for recording

  • @rafport ok, thanks mate. I think i'mm gonna buy that guitar soon =)

  • @rafport

sir! your and your guitars skills are awesome... i like tele sounds... and i like to buy same sx guitar... i just wonder that what kind of a tone adjustment did you use in xpod and your vox amp ... could you share these supertones' basics' please...

  • @metebir thank you, you're very kind. i'm not using pod anymore (i passed to tonelab st, much better dynamic and saturation for my ears despite for lower price, i prefer to pod HD that deluded me a lot) so now it's difficult find the pattern. simply (this is true for most of my pod settings) i use the vox ac30 emulated on the pod, i leave all with default value but turn volume to 10 and gain to taste (usually from 5 to 10). a bit of plate reverb and that's all. too many effect confuse the tone

  • Definitely leave the stock pickups! They sound fantastic, bright but not shrill, and it's also dark & funky, but not muddy! Plus the picking dynamics and response on them is awesome. Don't fix what isn't broken. One thing: What gauge strings did you put on it? I know it comes stock with 9s. Did you put 10s or heavier on it? Thanks!

  • @brtube569 i alrealy changed pickups, and i can say it is a big improvement (used custom shop nocaster). anyway stock pickup was quite serious (even from behind, unmounting and seeing under) and it played just like this better than some full priced tele. i'll post some video soon, now it is really a tele killer, it sings! in that video i used 10-46 but lately i'm back to 9-42 to all guitars.

  • this is an awesome sound guitar. i just bought one and I run it through a little marshal mg10. bright and happy, but the hollow body gives it a nice deep blues sound :D

  • @BassOnABudget good buy, post some video with it :)

  • @rafport i will do. i just need to fix my other computer so I can edit the vids and then ill upload them.

  • great sound!!

  • Man that sounds gritty and tough. This is a guitar with some respectable cajones.

  • @TheBigMclargehuge thank you!

  • wow ,, i have one fender thinline mexican 69 and this sounds almost good as the fender broh , nowadays we pay so much from one fuckin logo on the neck .. you make a very good video and these tele have a very very nice sound !

  • @trindadedani you mexican tele should have a better finish on the F hole, surely has better pots and selectors, it can have better nut (this is plastic of worst kind) maybe better tuners. pickups of mex tele i tried are usually worst than this one, but maybe i'm very lucky and this is not typical SX (my SX strat had horrible pickups for example). there is difference, but the fact is the price for have what. tone is a sum of various things, and things can be upgraded. this tele anyway is a deal!

  • great job!!

  • SX is a decent guitar, but you will find faults. I have the Tele, and the bridge upon removal is bent, and very poor plating. I replaced the pick-ups with Fend MIM pups and sounds great. Also changed the saddles to Fender MIM saddles. But for the price, its worth putting a few bucks into then.

  • @jel6692 i'm quite trained in modding guitars, effects and amps, as you can see on my page. anyway this sx is a very good start point, far better of other sx models. electrical parts is terrible and need to be changed, as cheap plastic nut. rest is good to decent, and pickups are quite articulate and dynamic in my opinion, a great surprise for their price. it need a serious setup of anything, like most of instrument of any price coming out from shop. i dont think it's a "few bucks guitar"

  • it´s a nice guitar but it probably wont sound that good if it was played by me jaja

  • @ivanbarbot4 ahahahahahah :D

  • Great guitar and great playing!!! hell yeah!

  • @MrWer1138 thanks!

  • DUde u rock!

  • @fattirevsbud thank you :)

  • @rafport where do u live? we're over in chicago

  • @fattirevsbud italy... almost other side of the world :)

  • @rafport Haha great playing if u come by Chicago let me know ...we also have a Little Italy here :)

  • Want one! Rondo tells me that SX will have a similiar model out later this Summer, can hardley wait...for now all I have are your videos...by the way, thankyou....poppa

  • @MrPoppa2 it is a very good guitar for the price. mine it need some setup works, but this is true for most of instrument (even expensive). i'm valutating the change of pickups but stock are anyway well sounding. thank you!

  • it sounds much better on the clean

  • @sfmike321 i find it has interisting tone even on overdriven tones, anyway it is a vintage output guitar so is not intended to have high outputs and high gain

  • thanks man !

  • where can i buy this guitar online?

  • @paybarmusic i buyed on ebay in dn-store a year ago, but it is quite rare to find

  • @paybarmusic go to rondomusiconline

  • Congratulations for your skills, sir. The Guitar sounds awesome too.

  • @RidleyJack grazie!

  • Hi. I´m Renzo, from Brazil. I've asked you about strato pups a few months ago. Would it be possible for you to post another video (with the thinline) with a better quality of drive, dirt sound? Maybe with differentl setups with the POD? That would help me a lot. Thanks man!!

  • Hi Renzo, i've not enough time lately so i cannot guarantee new videos on those days. Anyway consider who a semi hollow guitar feedback very easily and this mixed with the low output guitar make very unconfortable use a such kind of guitar with hi drive tones. i've post 4 videos with this tele you can chek this ones and tone is very similiar to the fender thinline, so you can check other videos (i guess most of then clean or with light crunch anyway)

  • Hi man, again like everyone said amazing demo and playing

Im about to buy a SX Thinline like yours, maybe the sunburst one, and I was wondering what did you mean with " (problem was the weak truss rod set, it needed to be turned)". I mean, it would be great if you could explain it in other words, because my English level is not enough to understand that =/ Thank you so much!

  • sure. the setup of the guitar when arrive to my own was terrible. the neck has a truss rod inside, that control the curve of the neck: if you strenght neck is less curve (and if too much strings buzz) if you loose it curve and height of string increase. it was really too loose, it need to be strenght. and it was necessary to setup bridge saddlers for tuning. are quite easy operation you can do by yourslef, maybe searching for some guide online or asking to a friend :) good buy!

  • that maple neck is screaming.

  • holy nuts , nice playing and guitar

  • thank you :)

  • Ok. I have found it but they only seem to sell accesories.

  • try to contact them, they last year had dozen of this guitar, maybe they can order more :)

  • Thank you again. I only have found a store in Spain that has this guitar. It costs 212 euros and doesn't include neither IVA nor shipping.

  • it is rather expensive (expensive respect my price obviously, for this price is a gift). i remind better i payed 149 includes 20 euro shipping. i bought on a ebay store called dn-store, it has pickguard and lot of this things. i suggest you to try to contact them before buy, maybe they can find some of this tele

  • Me encanta tu guitarra. Te agradecería sinceramente que me dijeras dónde, cómo y por cuánto dinero la has comprado. Saludos desde España

  • i'm not sure to understand in a correct way your message, i think youre apreciating my playing (and i thank you!) and you're asking for price. i payed last summer almost 150 euro new on an north europe ebay guitar store

  • Thank you very much for your answer. Is shipping included in these 150 euros? I'm thinking seriously in getting that guitar. And I wouldn't change the pick-ups. It sounds amazing yet

  • i'm not sure, it seem 150 included shipping to italy but it was last year (and shipping price depends on destination)

  • Nice playing man.

  • thanks :)

  • Funny thing,

I can't find these guitars anymore... with the traditional headstock. I wanted to find one in in Honey Blonde. The store i bought mine doesn't have any more with traditional headstocks. My guitar is a GREAT Tele at any price. It blows my last $1900 Tele out of the water. No Contest. My SX Thinline Tri-burst is my favorite guitar & has been for a couple months now.

  • a few weeks ago i checked online, and there are some on notrh europe ebay internation stores. waiting and hunting, i guess those guitars can be found :)

  • Very Lincoln Brewster like in style. Nice work.

  • thank you :)

  • I do agree... the nut should be upgraded.

  • But the setup on mine was great right out of the box...

  • I'm not sure about the upgrade on the tuners. I'm American & have some pride in American manufactruring but I've had a couple custom Tele's with the US Grover mini's & they really did not do any better than my SX for staying in tune.

  • tuning of mine is now quite decent, but i've sanded hard the nut because strings wont move at all into during bending (i lube it too) and then it was frequently out of tune. it is bigger problem on my opinion. tuners stay in tune, but mine are quite hard to use respect higher level tuners, they work in a right way anyway :)

  • I also saw that you feel the SX Strat pickups need immediate replacing ... I like mine there too. They're Twangy. Most modern Fender pickups are not Twangy . It's like a good clean tone ... You can always add effect but you can never add Twang if the pickups don't have it to begin with.

  • mmm i don't know if all sx strat has same pickups... the one on the sx was quite decent (not so different from a cheap mex strat) but with good pickups the difference in definition and tone was great. obviously it depends on taste, but for mine it needed to be upgraded on the strat

  • this guitar is really really bealtifull

  • thank you :)

  • Mine stays Perfectly in tune & I beat the snot out of it. I'm not changing a thing on mine. Live it's one of the best Tele's I've ever played & I've been at this for many years.

  • i need to change at least the head fret, it is the bigger problem for tuning (who anyway is not bad, but can be more stable) and is common plastic so is not good for tone too. maybe i change mechanins too, they're not bad but not good.

  • I have an SX Strat with tuners that look the same but it's not quite as stable... my Tele stays in tune very well. I guess at this price there is some quality variation but I'd be real happy at any price & for me on this one at least I don't have to change the tuners.

  • i've a sx strat too and i confirm tuners are much worst, they need to be changed more than the tele. head fret should be changed in both, it i s a very cheap plastic one. for this price quality is unbeatble but spending some money (not much) can be a real hi end instuments. it is yet a very good instrument

  • Where can you get this guitar from? Been looking ALL over the net and cannot find the THINLINE version anywhere.

  • i buyed from ebay on dn-store (nord europe shop but should sell all over the world i guess, it is a very big seller) and there was tons of this guitars :) search for this keyword "sx ash" or "sx tele" and extend your research all over the world if you live far from europe and you'll find.

  • just ordered this guitar! watching your reviews, how could i not, been looking at them a while was just unsure on how good there where for the price. getting it from belgum though, cheaper!

  • i'm sure you will be satifiet with :) let me know when arrive!

  • can you play metal on it? like Metallica and slipknot perhaps?

  • i think really not :) but for sure can be very original a semi hollow tele for that!

  • and RHCP? :-)

  • can be better a strat, but anyway we're in "single coil" zone at least :)

  • It sounds incredible. But its better than all kind of squiers? And how far is from a Fender telecaster? thanx! :)

  • i've not tried hundred of teles, and never tried a squier tele so i dont knot. but i've tried an tele american deluxe, a tele richie kotzen, a pair of mex teles. this guitar PLAY. maybe i'll change pickups but i'm not so sure, as the tone is real interesting already. it need some work on fret, capo and neck to be perfect and has some cheap components like tuners. but it is great

  • you made me buy one, your test is reallly conclusive for me, i like the tone of this SX over the squier classic vibe 50's, thanks for taking of your time for this demo

  • i'm happy to be useful :) when i've the weird idea to buy this SX i just read about how good they was, but searching here i never find videos that show a good quality sample of the tone and the dynamic on this guitar, so i tried to show how nice playing is this guitar. i'm waiting for pickup to mod the sx strat ash, but i'll do some work on this one too... but for price even pickups are really reasonable playing!

  • Thanks for your posts with this guitar. It convinces me to buy one (the same but in sunburst at DN Store on eBay).

But there is even a little issue : the frets are not well sanded. When bending, the strings hang on frets. Do you have the same problem ?

  • I know that, for that price, I can not ask the best finish. As you said, there is some wood pieces into body and the F hole is not well painted and finish (sunburst paint). But the frets are very important. But for the rest, the frets are well cut, no sharp corner.

    Very good deal!

  • hi. i've buyed 2 SX and i've finded in both truss rod need some work (you should get the exagonal key in bundle). if your string touch frets in varius parts of the neck, i guess it is not the fret sanding the problem. you need at first to set truss rod and bridge sider high (maybe your action is too short). to be honest setting and setting in the thinline i need to sand the 11 fret just on first 2 strings just a little, and now is perfect. anyway in both sx the neck is great and i've

  • finded much expensive guitars with neck set much worst that this two :) i'm sorry the sunburst model results not good painted, my two (both quite natural with wood in sight) are just perfect. the F hole is "raw" but not all guitar has the edge of the F holes covered and painted, and as mine is natural it fit well (too many paint over the wood and the wood vibration will suffer, especially if not a expensive painting). 3 way selector, after an hard using, seem cheap and maybe i'll change in

  • future, or when i take decision to change pickups (and maybe i'll change all electric parts to be sure). let me know if i can be helpful, i'm not a reseller but as i'm so satisfied and many guitarist i know are buying too the thinline after try mine (and try the strat ash too), i'm quite sure your neck and fret are ok and maybe need just some set in truss and slider for action. i'm here anyway :) bye!

  • Thanks for your answers. Indeed I didn't yet set the action, truss rod. I'm beginner in guitar settings. I've already watched "howto" video to set the truss rod but as it is an operation where you have to be careful, I didn't tried yet.

I bought the Thinline with the case but I didn't receive the hexagonal key.

  • "if your string touch frets in varius parts of the neck" --> I'm not sure I have well understood you explanation.

To be sure that I'm well understood, when I bend strings, the string doesn't slide well on the frets as there were steps, ruggedness.

  • i see, so the problem isnt the string height from the frets are so minimal the string stop to sing because the fret touch the string itself and stop their movement. you bend the string, and the string sing but you find it is too hard the string slide in bending because the fret "grind" with the string. that is quite strange, as both my sx are perfect. english is not my language, so i'm sorry if i'm not really clear explaining. i've understand correctly, the problem is the one i just write?

  • anyway i'm here if i can i'll aid you. strange for the hex key, i received one for every sx (the sx with the case has into the closed section into the case).

  • Sorry, I re-checked and the hex keys and others things are well in the case. :-)

  • ahah ok :) i'm quite fathful about your guitar is ok and need just a little setup. let me know anyway, i'm here for anything!

  • Yes, it is. The strings doesn't buzz (which can be due to a bad action setting) but it "grind" the frets.

  • this is quite strange. if you touch with your finger the frets, they're sanded? the strings should be new (sometime with very old string they will grund) so the frets can be the problem, even if is quite a rare defective. you can take anyway the thinner sand paper you get and fix in a plain panel. you need to protect wood for avoid scratching. anyway before this be sure the frets need it, you should find grinding for you finger too. if is just a bit, maybe you can use a cream for wood

  • for clean and lube all, and then you can bend any fret using a couple of strings going up and down (can be sufficient, then using frets they will consume in regular way). if fret really seem in need to be sanded do it, but it seem so strange... exclude any other cause before sand

  • Thanks.

I will try to set up the truss rot and try to sand a fret to see the difference with/without sanding.

I come back to you when it will be done.

  • ok, let me know :) bye

  • hey raf! you have a tummy! :) time to workout!

  • ahahahahah ok less solos more walking :)

  • yeah! this is it!

  • Just clicked on the "buy it now" button

Should be at home next week.

And yes, from your videos, the stock pickups seem to sound nice

  • ok, i hope you will be satisfied as me (and as all people who tried my thinline, several of them are thinking about to buy it!). let me know when arrive or post some video :)

  • Right, thx.

Now the best deal for the natural finish is 139€ + 27.5€ for shipping, w/o case, still a great deal IMO

  • i was lucky and take the time :D anyway is not a problem of some euro, the one i got is really incredibile. i had planned to change pickup (custom shop nocaster or dimarzio twang king) but sometime i play and think "are you sure it will play better?" :D (i saw pikcups inside, they're very cheap, but they play so good anyway... maybe is the ash quality i dont know). for that price is a steal. and the sx strat ash i get after is incredible too, but stock pickups really need to be changed there.

  • Nice playing

Did you buy it on ebay (DN Store) ?

    how is the finish ?

    thx

  • thank you. yes, i buy on dn-store and i was satisfied about service (and about guitar obviously, i take a second sx just after a pair of day because this one is quite incredible!). finish outside are really good, wood is ok and clean, fret cut ok nice hardware. i just finded awful soldering and there was some small wood pieces into the F hole (remains from the cut for sure). truss rod requested a bit of work too. anything can be solved with a bit of time :) it is a great guitar

  • Thanks for this fast answer, i'm gonna purchase one. Just for info, how much did you pay for it, it seems they have different prices for the same guitar...?

  • ahah yes, but if you notice are al almost same (some incude shipping, some has a minor shipping and a major price or vice-versa). i just choose the one that has price+shipping minor to others, but difference was ridicule, less than an euro. i'm not sure, i payed like 119+29 of shipping, it was just a bit less 150. the model with sunburst costs 10 euro less, but should miss perloid pickuguard. there are some with a box (my sx strat has) and i can say it is a very nice box for the price add

  • nice chops!

  • thank you :)
