Thanks man I really appreciate it but honestly this is nothing compared to level I'm at now this was almost a year ago and I practice 3-5 hours a day I've just been lazy and havent uploaded anything new maybe I will.
What kind of distortion pedal are you using after the wah?
You said you ran it
Big Muff>wah>distortion>amp correct?
Only thing I found that works well for the post wah distortion was a high gain pedal because it had EQ on it. Actually it was a Line 6 Uber Metal, which made the wah (Morley Dual Bass Wah) sound unreal. I can send you an audio clip if you wanna hear an example.
I don't think it would make much of a difference honestly. It depends on how thick you like your wah to sound a lot of pettles offere different sounds,
Sorry Randy, but it does make a difference. Bass wahs are designed to operate closer to the bass range of frequencies (and likewise for guitar). But luckily, wahs are very similar inside, and you can turn a guitar wah into a bass wah REALLY easily. :)
In this video I'm using a guitar amp that has built in distortion but since then I've bought a distortion peddle (a big muff) and its bass->wah->distortion->amp if you put distortion before wah it gets a really weird sound
In my opinion, bass is used to make rhythm, just like drums, and bass is really quiet in most metal songs. I think effects are good when u can hear them - in bass solos.
Just because Bass has that stereotype doesn't mean we can't musically express ourselves just like every other musician in the spot light.
I will not be a bassist that just plunk plunk plunks along. We all play instruments regardless if which and we all deserve the chance to express ourselves whether guitarists or whoever likes it or not.
i think bass in metal songs should have the same amount of volume as guitar. i hate music today. go listen to old sabbath and ull see what i mean. but i think during a song its cool to use effets on bass at certain times.
No doubt, I love Sabbath and Ozzy because they always give bass the respect is deserves there isn't a single sabbath or ozzy song that the bass is hidden, OZzy is God!
I don't know.... Guitarists act like they're the only ones allowed to use effects. I don't know where they get off thinking that. But I like effects and I'm never going to stop using them I don't care who likes it lol.
"Guitarists act like they're the only ones allowed to use effects. I don't know where they get off thinking that."
I don't know where you get off thinking that :D I play guitar and I own boss gt-10 so I have hell of effects, but I've never thought that bass players shouldn't use anything :) Props go to you for using wah stuff and other things :)
what do you mean there's no bass playing there's obviously 4 strings on that guitar can you count? This is a video of my solo demonstrations. Music is what people make it, if you don't like it don't watch. I obviously wouldn't use distortion for everything just my solos.
its just a squire p bass its cheap one ive only been playing like 7 months honestly it's my learning bass im getting ready to get an ESP Tom Araya Sig the fender i have doesnt run high enough in frets for my liking and its really hard to hit the higher notes but it will help me when i get a better bass with me more frets because i can pretty much bend like burton i havent perfected it yet but im close and im actually not slapping the strings with my palm if you pay attention im using my ring lol
Nice. That's pretty beast for 7 months. I might just have to go to guitar center and try that dunlop cry baby. If you're looking for thick distortion I recommend the russian big muff. It was pretty thick. Very nice. The bass big muff is good for a little distortion, good for soloing. I like it, but it doesn't get that uberdistortion sound. Listening to your distortion again I think that you would benefit from the russian big muff
stellar sound man. I like the improv. most of all I like that distortion. what distortion pedal are you using? And I'm looking for a wah pedal. Any you can recommend? Nice guitar too, fender or squier? keep rockin' man, glad to see people out there still remember Cliff. Nice palm slapping too.
Thanks a lot I do appreciate it. I use a cry baby wah peddle which ran me about 140 and i actually don't use a distortion peddle right now because I can't find one that mixes well with my peddle to get the thick disortion I like. In this video I'm using a 2 stack line 6 guitar amp for the distortion until I can find a distortion peddle I like.
It has a mix of Cliff Burton Mix wit Steve Harris!

It's not a bassist, it's a guitarist man, he substitute everything.
G-R-O-O-V-E is no less of 50% of the instrument and most guitarists have nothing in groove because they just didn't learn.
He should play some old schoold funk for a day or two, he'll learn a lot of new things i think.
Arcomatik 2 years ago 3
well... it's nice but why play that way your bass? I mean, at this point wouldn't be better play a guitar?
Sometimes also I like play bass with distortion like a guitar, but it's definitively just a way to have fun at the end or a track and nothing more...
ROMANTIKILLER2 2 years ago
You're right!!!, it would be so much better to hear all that from a guitar
manuelhutch 2 years ago
are you playing on a crate amp? cuz i have one and thats what is sounds like... =)
good job btw!
yaaaaaaa707 2 years ago
go away with your bass and leave your bass you play like a gitarist !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AvBaarsen 2 years ago
yea stupid, he said hes playing some of burton's riffs.... thats how burton played: like a guitarrist, thats why metallica hired him...
yaaaaaaa707 2 years ago
@yaaaaaaa707 it sounds great, cliff was hired for more than just his guitar bass sounds he had other talents on bass
noBSbassGtarchick 2 years ago
o i know, but thats the main reason.

you want to run the wah before any fuzz/distortion

I'm no wah peddle expert, I know I've used a guitar wah for my bass before i got a bass wah and it worked fine.
RandyH07 3 years ago
yeah but the guitar wah give the WAH a higher sound
Doomguy123 3 years ago
basically what they're saying is a using the wah coordinated with the instrument will sound better

Yea i think thats thanks to geezer being a guitarist before a bassist aaaand thanks to jack bruce for converting him
Primus is another mad example of bass being as powerful and skilled as the guitar
jeshie1233 3 years ago
yeah, i wish songs today would use bass effects

Maybe it's just my imagination, but why do bass effects are so unpopular? I don't see too many videos with stuff like wah or flanger, phaser etc.
