I found the actual YYZ from Rush, on Youtube, and was able to sync it to play exactly with this video. And it was note for note and exactly on time. As a musician, I am not sure if I admire that or wonder about imagination. Then again, it annoyed me that Rush would play their songs live, pretty much exactly like the record.
@Hekikahni I hear what you're saying, Hekikahni, but I've always found that issue interesting. Funnily, you never hear people criticise a classical musician for learning a classical piece note for note, however when it comes to rock music it seems different. I guess I approach my music as would a classical musician. I'm very much a purist, and I'm one that goes to concerts expecting and hoping that the band will play the music just like I hear it on the record.
@chris21125150 Actually I have heard people criticize it. In that a classical musician will not be able to play unless a sheet of music is in front of them. It is preference, but I feel a complete musician, can both play a song note for note, and also improvise something else off of it. They have the choice in themselves. I learned; A farewell to Kings, and play it note for note, but I can also play the chords different, and change the tone
I am dumbstruck by your talent, Now drums as well !! You're a 1-man, 24-carat, 500 star tribute band. A jaw-dropping experience. Cheers and a sub, Jim
Having never heard Rush play this song, the first thing I thought was that this sounds like Chris covering Rush while Rush was covering something by Allan Holdsworth. Does anyone else agree that this sounds a bit like his work?
That was incredible. Nice ghost notes, great hi-hat work, and your guitar was completely flawless! Even the arabian sounding solo! I don't know much about keyboard, but I know you nailed that too! 5 stars.
Thanks, ScalerWave. I used an old Digitech effects processor for the guitar. I have since upgraded to a Boss ME 70, which I now wish I had used for this video.
A new one at last! Welcome back, my friend, hat's off to you. Notice how the cameraman stumbles at the end by sheer amazement. I'm sure you can pull off those Geddy lines any time.
wow chris ....that is just awesome....keep the vids coming...i'm guessing that was your son running the cam...you need to get him in with you on guitar..i saw his sound chaser vid..i learned from that ..thanks
thanks, DoU12Rock. That wasn't my son actually, it was a friend of mine videotaping. You can see some of my son's own videos under the username EvH920410

You've got Alex Lifeson's tone down perfect on this one Chris ...and you play the drums just like Peart! Awesome talent.
