this doesn't follow the comics 100% Astro's "Dad" disowned him after he measured to see if he had grown then spazzed out and was like of course you can't grow. PLus if I remember correctly they were never on a cruise

yeah wow, your great... tenzuka did work on this and so its good enough, he made changes but that doesnt mean that either one is correct or better... just watch and have fun.

They cut out all the emotion and made it into pretty much an average bland Western children's cartoon.

I'm pretty sure the show was based off of "Pinoccio". Tezuka loved Disney, so it wouldn't surprise me if this was inspired by their version.

I think Astro Boy was somewhat based on both Disney's Pinoccio and Fritz Lang's Metropolis... I remember reading something like that somewhere :P

well, at least most of the main parts about Toby (Tobio) were still in the edit. Even though Atlas and company were completely cut off, it wasn't too big of a problem.

They should have kept the father's line to apologize to Toby. Ah well, no harm done.
