  • Batman!

  • my teachers boss was in this movie 20 years agaio

  • So... Swing was then banned in Germany (during Hitler's ruling) because it was an "American Culture"?

  • @Condom007of007Solace To the best of my knowledge any music that wasn't German was banned and illegal in Germany during the Nazi reign of the 1930s-1940s.

  • @Condom007of007Solace yeah Hitler only wanted German music to be played.

  • ich liebe es und ich liebe es selber zu tanzen :))) <3

  • ahh, they days when we still had culture. Almost done building my time machine (and i wont be coming back).

  • my god this dance is so amazing.

  • SWING HEIL!!!!

  • Threesome with Robert and Christian? hell yes.

  • @musiclover60708 judging by the end of the movie (if you've seen it) i dont think you would want to be alive in the timeline of swing musics popularity. in germany anyway ;)

  • g@70sgymnastics wat school do u go cuz were also waching this in history

  • We should still dance like this... instead of stupid "clubbing dance" wtf is that anyways...??

  • Damn, liking those nice crotch and ass shots in the beginning!

  • This is such a great film ... a snapshot of a period in time that was absolutely horrible for the German people. There was still some good shining through that evil period in human history ... SWING HEIL!!

  • @bradmedicus Except that in reality the swing kids were 11-17 years old, and mainly hid and listened to music in basements.

  • @bradmedicus What I love about this film is that it touches on a part of the Nazi take over that, at least to me, isn't well known. The banning of music that wasn't German and the Nazi Youth organization.

  • This should be the dancing we do in school man!

  • this was directed by a black man

  • AMAZING -3

  • 25 years ago, we had Dirty Dancing.

20 years ago, we had Swing Kids.

5 years ago, we had Step up 1.

3 years ago, we had Step up 2.

1 year ago, we had Step up 3.

In 1 year, we'll have Step up 4.

Fuck this, I'm going back in time.

  • @azkanan Keep going back 70 years, and you'll get to Hellzapoppin' (1941) which has the greatest swing routine ever captured on film!

  • @lindyhop411 whats it about it is just swing dance or sum other stufff??....lol...:)

  • Oh nd just so u noe grinding does take skill u gotta be able yo move wit ur partner nd stay on beat and move ur body right...alot of hard work

  • @MsCutie2 You should look up videos of an offshoot of swing dancing, called "blues dancing". I think you might like it.

  • Ok um naronasemy or w/e ur name is I take offense to ur comment just caz sumone likes grinding better than swing dsnr make them a bad person me personally I do evry type of dance swing waltz cha cha merengue bachata breakdancing hip hop etc Evn grinding....so listen just caz ur mad nd u cnt do it dsnt give u the rite to ne criticizing no body and this is comin from a 15 yr old gurl nd yes just in case u cnt tell I'm black nd judging by ur comment I'm guessing ur white....idk I'm just sayin but

  • @MsCutie2 i didnt say it makes them bad ppl. i also like dancing with friends in clubs and stuff, but i was offended by the comment about how not wanting to grind makes someone a faggot. sorry if i personally offended you.

  • belt and braces... not cool

  • What's the song called?

  • @Andy01249 The song is a medley of Benny Goodman's "Life Goes to a Party" and Count Basie's "Jumpin' at the Woodside". You can find the song on the soundtrack to the movie.

  • @lindyhop411 thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Andy01249 I'm not certain. It sounds like Sing Sing Sing at times, and considering the popularity of the song, it's likely it's another artist's rendition of it, but it could be original, or a completely different song.

  • awsome, me to wanna learn swing dance :P, im going to search for swing dance trainging

  • @wwilliam7 Make sure you search out "Lindy Hop" :-)

  • @wwilliam7 One of my best friends and i are teaching ourselves to swing dance through a mix of youtube tutorials and watching movies :D we even made duct tape dress forms to make some dresses to swing dance in. summer projects FTW <3

  • i love this movie and I love the dance!

  • is it hard to learn?

  • @SnowyJimmy It's different for everyone. Google "Lindy Hop" and your city/state to find a local place to learn.

  • @lindyhop411 Thanks!

  • Man this dance was fun :) I Can do it!

  • @SourCandy121 You know Lindy Hop?

  • When making a movie like this, why not pick leads and choreographers who could actually dance lindy hop, charleston and authentic jazz?

  • @dsapasd The choreographers learned Lindy Hop from Frankie Manning himself. Yes it's cheesy shlock, but this was before the Neo-Swing craze, so there weren't that many people who'e even heard of Lindy Hop.

  • is it just me, or is 'life goes to a party' the BEST SONG TITLE EVER?

  • @musiclover60708 What about Goodman's song "Six Appeal"?

  • this is the bomb

  • 3 people missed the 'like' button

  • Probably one of my favorite movies of all time.

  • Ashel77 thanks for this video I love Swing Music.

  • Comment removed

  • This movie was so sad :( ,,,,, but i LOVED IT.... I love swing dancing.

  • Great music, great dancing, great movie.

  • @tinribs73 Actually the movie has very little actual swing dancing in it. Check out my videos to see what real swing dancing is all about.

  • SWING HEIL =)

  • now when u say "u wanna go swing" it means something else lol

  • Comment removed

  • *sigh *

    I was born too late...

  • watched this in history class today. so awesome!! Especially since Christian Bale is in it, my favorite. He is an amazing actor and so gorgeous.

  • Who know what's the song ?

  • @kevindu67350 The song is a combination of "Life Goes To a Party" and "Jumpin' At The Woodside"

  • that is lifestyle and fun. our grandpa´s were proud of us!

  • good movie :)

  • 0:24

  • We do this on Drama in school. :D

  • I'd be honored.

  • I'm not sure what third world hellhole you got your vaccines in, but here we have one thing and one thing only: prevention of the flu.

  • ooh, 1:47

  • A seventeen years younger RSL swing dancing? HELLS YES.

  • and people say white people cant dance. *nods*

  • @Zailen1 i guess it depends on your kind of definition of dance. and if you're talking about awesome dancing...then hell YEAH lol. Dance is about having rhythm and finding it in your soul.. And let me tell you how I'm black and wished I could do all of that. i love swing.

  • @Vitaluv Well, us Lindy Hoppers always wish Hollywood would show more authentic swing dancing (from the 30s and 40s) that came our of Harlem during the swing era. Is the dancing the film great? Yes. Is it what people were doing in the era? No. That's the main issue with the choreography.

  • @lindyhop411

Everyone was not dancing Harlem style during that era!!!!

  • @tumsabai1 This is true. There were lots of different folk swing dances around during the time, such as LA Swing, Collegiate Shag, St. Louis Shag, Imperial Swing, etc., but still, what's being done in the movie isn't what was done during the era. But above all else, most people associate aerials with swing dancing, and aerials came from Lindy Hop, which is why it's so celebrated within the swing dance community.

  • @Zailen1 Eh, I would argue with you, but "people" are right......have you seen black people dance? Swing or anything? ITS WAY BETTER!! check out hellsapoppin'!!! White people can dance alright, but black people just do it with style!! (better)

  • @Zailen1 yes. it's great when whites pick up on creative artforms created by african american culture. like jazz. blues. funk. swing dance. r&b. soul. hiphop music. graffiti. breakdancing. and so on.

  • @Zailen1 though it's the afro americans who invented the style ;)

  • @qutini who cares ... sick of the division comments in this country. The movie is about the hitler youth that loved american and british culture, in particular. AMERICAN swing music and dance ...

  • :| i lovee

  • Swing Kids! I totally loved this movie. I was, like, passionately devoted to it back in the day, lol.

  • i really love that movie

and maaaan~ wish i could dance like that

  • this is my favorite movie of all time! its brilliant... :D

  • poor arved

  • This movie kicked so much ass.

  • dr wilson knows how to swing! :D

  • where's the fun in swing without the skirts, eh?

  • I love Robert Sean Leonard in this movie! and it makes me hate Noah Wyle (which is a hard thing to do)

  • Need to get thouse cloths for my films! I'm a BIG fan of the 1920s night life.

  • my grandpa was seventeen in 1939! cool!

  • dancing is good but he movie suck decomposed balls

  • we need to go back to this kind of dancing... grinding just does not even come close to comparing to how awesome swing is!

  • shoot i know.. it kinda sickens me

back then, event the guys knew how to dance

    haha

  • here here, i cant stand the cooler than thou or air fucking on the dance floor fashion of my and upcoming generations

  • @XjussyX92 I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! (and this is coming from a 16 year old right here. lol)

  • @girllovesmonkees Look up Lindy Hop and your City/State. I'm sure you'll find something.

  • @XjussyX92 Have you not heard of Lindy Hop? All young people, all dancing swing, all around the world.

  • @XjussyX92 much agreed mate....

  • @XjussyX92 I know your comment is a year old, but I wish I learn swing dancing before my Senior Prom. Too bad I didn't learn it and I didn't have a date for the prom. If I did both, she and I would stand out as a couple, even if we have to dance to booty-bouncing music (ew...). :)

  • @MarioBrosClassic um. im a girl of 15, and i take offence to your comment "SIR". just because some1 doesnt like dry humping on the dance floor, doesnt make them gay. i love swing dancing and my bff and i r teaching ourselves how. we also taught ourselves to meremgue and waltz. i dont like some club music/dancing because its very sexual, but takes no skill. does that make me a "dyke"? did u even watch the vid? cuz swing dancing can be VERY dirty, if that wat ur into, plus it takes ALOT of skill.

  • @XjussyX92 I completely agree! one of my best friends and i are teaching ourselves to swingdance (and other more traditional dances). she currently has a broken thumb though, so we cant do flips or anything. but we can pretzel :D im pretty sure i was born about 45 years to late :(

  • @nanarosemay The pretzel isn't a swing move. It comes from Hustle, a dance from the 1970s.

Don't worry so much about air steps (they aren't called flips or aerials). Focus on getting the basics of East Coast Swing with triple steps, then when you are ready, you can move on to Lindy Hop.

  • @lindyhop411 thanks, i really know nothing about dancing, and any advice would be awesome :)

  • @nanarosemay Just find a place that teaches Lindy Hop and learn from there. :-) There's a lot of places in Southern California.

  • @lindyhop411 Aw :( im in central PA. thanks though, ill check it out.

  • @nanarosemay Sorry, your profile saws your hometown is LA. If you're willing to make the drive, there is Lindy Hop in Pittsburgh and Philly (whatever is closer).

  • @lindyhop411 oh, haha XD id forgotten that! i was born in LA, so i consider it my home town, but ive moved 11 times since then. i found the website for the Pittsburg one, thanks again :) So excited!

  • @XjussyX92 bro, lets do this shit at a bar and see who joins

  • @XjussyX92 I cant dance for shit but i agree! (moshing have to be included)

  • @XjussyX92 grinding is a watered down form of more intricate latin dance routines

  • @XjussyX92 Your so right!!! Glad I'm not the only one who danced with my date like this at my Prom!!! :D

  • ha so i guess this is how dancing defeated the nazis. good movie.

  • Actually, it's more about how dancing could get you killed by the Nazis.

  • i was kidding hah. i don't think the writers would seriously make it about dancers winning ww2 single-handedly.

  • watched this movie is Social studies pretty good

  • Good movie, watched in history

  • I've never watched this film, but it captures the fun and exitement of swing so well I wannna watch it =)

  • It's a movie about the resistance of youth in Hitler's germany, all wrapped up in a swing wrapper, but however it's the only WW2 movie i can stand....and i fucking love swing kids

  • ce film est vraiment trop bien!!

  • oui, j'adore ce film! =D

  • Do you speak french? Est-ce que tu parles en francais? Est-ce que tu parles anglais aussi? Comme tu voir j'ai parle en francais et anglais. Je parle comme ci comme ca francais. Et toi?

  • oui jparle en Français et un peu anglais

  • Swing is the best.

  • I know, right? :D

  • Your pizzicato is scorchin'; your vibrato smokin'; tone like buttah; and glissandos slidin', glidin' and electrifyin'! when you said this i thot of this movie! :D

  • A most appropriate association! :) I shoulda gotton swingin' somewhere in there too! LOL

  • I adore this movie...I just learned how to swing-dance at a Superbowl party! :-)

  • I learned to play football at a swing dance!

  • omfg swing music is teh bestzors lol

  • "Life goes to a party" by Benny Goodman

  • Thank you very much! :D

  • It's a great movie, I like wwII's related movies & this is one of the best •○•

  • I love these types of movies to. I cried so much in this one.

  • i love love love this movie!!! we finished watchin it in my socialogy class today to wrap up the semester=] i almost cried too but i held it in hahaha

  • i'm watching this in German now

  • WILSONNNN! :D

  • I saw this movie freshman year when we learned about Germany and Hitler, it was a great movie and made me cry at the end, and than we watch the beginning of Saving Private Ryan right afterward so alot of crying in the classroom went on after that....:( beautiful movie though.

  • saw this for the first time in class this is the best movie ever

  • wow, now there its impossible to hide it if you cant dance

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE!

  • that looks so fun

  • in 5th grade we watched this. it ended in ALOT of people crying. I realy dident think it was so sad that it had to come to the extent of crying

  • Damn that chick dancing with Thomas is amazin.

  • wow

  • I love this movie! thanks for uploading it!

  • COOL!!!

  • I love this movie, it's amazing.

Hot guys, swing dancing, history it's soooo amazing!!

  • Christian Bale ends up being an ass in this movie. lol.

    Poor Arvid =/

  • That's not true about Thomas. Remember the end? And how could you blame him? If you pay attention to him and his parents' relationship, it partially explains why he is the way he is. Please don't take offense to my comment, I happen to like all three characters.

  • Thomas is my favorite,

I love his passion for life. He's never cautious and never cares about what other people are thinking.

I guess that's what made him such an "ass" as you call it. Sad.

    But the end was great!

  • Well, it was a good example of the brainwashing the Nazis did to the Hitler Youth. None of it was actually Thomas's fault.

  • Well sorta. It only happened to Thomas and both boys were exposed to the brainwashing.

  • all of them were exposed to brainwashing in some form, but i think thomas felt a need to belong, so he was sucked into it.

great movie though~ watched it in english and loved it

  • LOVE THIS MOVIE.

i wish i hadn't seen it in school though,

i wanted to cry my eyes out at the end..

but i guess it's not "cool" to cry in school. xP

and hey! thomas is the kid from empire of the sun, or something like that. :)

  • Christian Bale. He also is known for his role in Batman Begins.

  • Love this Flic The sountrack is the Shit!

  • why yes it is!

  • whats the song?

  • Benny Goodman Swing Sin Swing

  • ya what was the song that they were singing when they were peeing on the poster.

  • dude wheres the part with them peeing on the poster? Ya cut that out ::slaps forhead::

  • this movie is so 1990s!but ya gotta love it!

  • These cats knew how to swing!! Ya baby!!

  • This is a fantastic movie. It made me obsessed with Christian Bale. I hated his character so much at the end but that obviously showed how much of an amazing actor he is. I've prolly seen it twenty times.

  • ive never seen this

  • see it you won't be disappointed :)

  • P.S. also see American History X :)

  • see it! some of the best films were made in the '90s!

  • it would have been so much fun to do that scene if you were one of the dancers. U'd b really buggered after doin tones of takes though! =P

  • swing heil!

  • I love this movie- it reminds me of my granduncle. He used to listen to swing all the time until the day he died, about 8 years ago. He always told me how the Luftwaffe pilots he worked for as a mechanic used to pull all kinds of strings to get American records during the Phoney War and played them at their officer's mess when the uber-nazis weren't around. He actually got me into the whole 30s/40s music to begin with and now he's long gone and I'm still hooked.

  • That´s sweet!

  • swing heil!

  • omg ... i havent seen this movie in forever! Swing Heil!

  • swing heil!
