saw stan at joe's pub in nyc some years ago.....prefered the freshness of the beginning with wall of vodoo instead of nowadays live stiffness.... waves from the desert....
@jbearden That's been one of the great debates. I really like Stan's Wall of Voodoo and I love Prieboy's. Some critics have speculated that it would have been better if the band had changed its name when Andy moved in. You are right, it is "something ELSE" and the name should have reflected that.
As for Stan, I know about the bad blood, however a few years back Stan played harmonica on one of Andy's solo songs, so maybe things are cool there now.
@jbearden Come on Man.... It is just Music.... Better that anything you will find on the air today... How can 5 guys do this.... So good... You will never hear or see this on American T.V.
Though generally I agree with you, in this "The Age of Feeling". However, your comment does seems to come from left-field. Does it relate to the video or is it just random? I will say that it does relate to Andy Prieboy's solo songs "Montezuma Was A Man of Faith" and "Pricks Up Front".
This Andy guy, I dunno, it just seems that he's trying a little too hard to sound like Stan, which probably gave some blokes at IRS some relief after Stan split.
This is weird. I have mixed feelings about this and it really caught me by surprise. I was a huge fan of WOV in my youth, and still am to agree, though admittedly not huge enough of a fan to have known that there even was a WOV after Stan. The music is close on par with the early stuff, mostly because of the brilliant guitar work, though I think it does falter from that Robert Palmer-style over-production everyone succumbed to in the 80s.
Although I just slammed you regarding your Apocalypse Pooh video comment, I have to say that I'm one of the biggest WOV fans, having seen both iterations of the band as well as solo Stan and Andy (and yes, I prefer the Andy fronted WOV). RIP Marc and Joe and check out Andy's website for some new songs only available via his site. Anyway, thanks for your WOV support.
Leagues better than Stan era stuff IMO. I saw 'em both- just like Andy better. Hey, to each his or her own.
Anymore of the Prieboy era stuff out there? Somebody had to record those epic shows at the scream in 87 or 88? Whenever that was,,,,, the most fun of my life! Marc was amazingly talented!
I know someone had a vid cam at the Madame Wong's shows.....
I'd love to see some of that stuff- they were perfect in those last couple years (i.e. "Living in the Red" live was mega!)

Don't show those beads and mirrors. We once used them to conquer the ignorant. But, no more.
Pure science, the scientific method, and not the mirrors and colourful flames stuff, will win out.
Appreciate leadership that has no personality, no self-interest, no charisma, no 'leaders', just groupies.
But, faced with apparent facts, has recommendations that you could only call on 'beads and mirrors' to argue against.
If too many are fooled by 'beads and mirrors', democracy is compromised.

Forgive me.
I stand by what I typed, but I wish I wasn't so drunk when I did it. Alcohol tended to give it an angry, 'left-field' feel.
If sober, my wording would have been better, and far less obtuse.
But I must thank you on your suggestions. They have been most enjoyable.
P.S. Initially my comment related to the song.
P.P.S. Never post anything on Youtube whilst inebriated.

In the words of Charles Baudelaire..."Always be drunk." En vino veritas.
"That's Latin dahlin'. It seems our Mr. Ringo is an educated man. Now I really hate him."
Apologies...couldn't resist the Tombstone sub-reference.

I discovered this in an I.R.S. (record label) compilation in the 80's. Pure dope.
