  • I'm glad this was posted. It's so interesting =]

  • THANK YOU! i want to deal with aniamls when i get older(mainly a vet) so i need to learn all i can and THIS REALLY helps me,i've been taking notes left and right thank you sooo much! ^^

  • @tabby4109

    here's another tip:

Small bemale dogs have a tendancy to use their toys as real babys. They even go as far as stealing other dog babies. My dog has that prob and the vet and a dog breeder said the only way to solve her's(she starves herself to watch her babies. she's close to emaciated) is to get her a litter. We're hoping to get a cairn cocker.

  • @spunkygen49

don't breed your dog! there are too many puppies dying in shelters waiting for homes! what you need to do is get your dog spayed of course!

  • @maximum411

It doesn't work!!!!!!! I asked a vet. My grandmother's dog died of the same thing!!!!! She was fixed and wanted a puppy so bad, she ran across the road to find a puppy. We found her on the highway days later.

  • @spunkygen49

How on Earth do you know she ran across the street to find a puppy? Dogs run across the street all the time for all sorts of reasons or even no reason at all. What makes you think it was to find a puppy? Even professional animal behaviorists don't claim to know what animals are thinking in the absence of real evidence. Most likely she was just roaming and exploring, as dogs do. Getting a dog fixed gets rid of all the hormones and will definitely remove an urge to raise puppies.

  • @maximum411

Because across the street, there were puppies. It doesn't work!!!!! I asked a vet. she will ahve puppies weather you like it or not!

  • @spunkygen49

That's a really dumb vet then. I've never seen this problem in any dog but an unspayed one. It's caused by hormones, and will go away if you spay her because that will get rid of the sex hormones.

I even brought this up with a vet friend I have and he said spaying should definitely fix it.

You should get your dog spayed anyway- it will add a few years to her life. Otherwise she might get uterine cancer.

And please, don't add more unwanted puppies to the world!

  • @maximum411

It won't!!!!! They WILL be wanted!!!! We are creating a new breed: Cocker terrier.

so SHUT UP PETA suporter!!!!! I understand where your coming from but you sound like one of the peta people bitching about problems that aren't that bad. They FORCED a store to change their name.

  • @spunkygen49

Really? The problem is not bad? Then why are four million dogs and cats put to sleep in shelters in the US EVERY YEAR because no one will adopt them? There are too many people breeding their pets "just for fun."

And crossing two different breeds isn't "creating a new breed," that's creating a mutt. I'm sorry, but it will be very hard to get rid of mutt puppies. If there was such a high demand for them they wouldn't be dying in shelters by the millions.

  • @maximum411

It is bad!!!! People want cocker spaneils!!!!! it's not just for fun!!!!! It's to save a life!!!!! The mutt pupie we will make will sell!!!! she will only have one litter and that's it!!!! DIE IN HELL BITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @spunkygen49

A cocker spaniel mixed with a terrier is not a cocker spaniel- it won't even look like one.

And how is that saving a life? I guarantee you, no one will pay you for a mutt. I'm trying to warn you now before you have to find out the hard way that it will be very hard to find a home for a mutt, but it looks like you're not going to listen to me.

Just know that you are a part of the problem.

  • @maximum411

it saving a life by saving the dog die in sadness or by finding a puppy. She got out today!!!!! It took 5 hours to find her!!!!!!

  • @spunkygen49

I'm sorry, but look- get her spayed, and I PROMISE you it will fix the problem. If not you can foster some puppies from the shelter for her to take care of.

But I 100% GUARANTEE spaying her will get rid of the problem forever. If you let her have puppies now, she'll just want more the next time she comes into season.

  • @maximum411

It won't help!!!!!!! My cousin's puppy she adopted went near her babies and she almost attacked it! she getting her own BITCH!!!!!!!!

  • @spunkygen49

What are you talking about? She went near whose babies?

  • @maximum411

My cousin's puppies she's fostering. I just saw that you agree with peta. after my sister has her baby, we will see if we can find a father. We think we can use the cocker spaneil my other cousin has.

  • @spunkygen49

The foster puppies went near her child? What?

  • @maximum411

That's how bad she has puppy fever. Any dog toy she has, is her baby. If you go near it, you risk getting bit. She even tries nursing it! and if they make a sound, she walks around with it in her mouth whining. I barely get sleep!!!!!! Now do you see how bad?

  • @spunkygen49

That is really bad- but here is a perfect solution. If you don't want to get her spayed, which you should since it will solve the problem, there is still a way you can let your dog have puppies without breeding her.

Contact a local shelter and ask if you can foster a puppy- this means you will temporarily take care of it in your home until it is adopted. Shelters do it all the time, and you will be helping a shelter pup and your dog will have a real puppy/litter to take care of.

  • @maximum411

since she is in this degree, the vet said spaying won't work. The shelter here is a high kill one. I wouldn't trust them. The breeder said this would happen!!!!! For over 50 years, her family has been breeding. The breeder said it might get printed in her brain to have a puppy. She is really a good dog though! I'll ask my mom about the ASPCA in reading. THANK you!!!!!! And i'm sorry for calling you thiose bad names. I was irritated.

  • @spunkygen49

Great- that's no problem, I understand.

And even if the shelter is high-kill, it's not because they're bad people, there are just too many dogs and cats and they have to put some to sleep or else they would never be able to take any in.

In fact, if you foster a puppy (or an entire litter) from a high-kill shelter there is a good chance you might even be saving it from being killed! I would go for it- and then you'll still get to take care of some cute puppies!

  • @maximum411

ok. I showed my mom what you said and she will call my sister (the dog's real owner) tomorrow and if she says yes, we will hopefully call 2 local shelters near here. And one of them just raided a puppy mill yesterday! We also have a male dog who is fixed and is 10 years old. She "Baby sat" our kittens when they were a few months old. My sister refused to fix her cat and we got 4 kittens. All found homes. 2 died young and 1 is somewhere in the USA. And my Meesha is here in my lap!!!

  • @spunkygen49

That is so fantastic! You are really doing a great thing. Hopefully it'll work out- maybe you'll get to take care of some of those puppy mill puppies. Please let me know what happens!

I honestly didn't expect my words to change anything but the fact that you actually took them into consideration really says something good about you as a person. I wish you the best of luck and please update me on what happens!

  • @maximum411

I will let you know. My mom is calling my sister in one hour because today is her due date. I usually got cut down in school because my dog came from "A stupid smelly shelter". All the kids at my school get their dogs from breeders. I'm doing the right thing.

  • @spunkygen49

    Congratulations to your sister!

And people really said that to you? What awful classmates you have! Shelter dogs are no different than dogs from a breeder- they just had some bad luck. Good for you for helping out a dog that needed it.

You should tell all your friends at school that adopting your "stupid smelly shelter" dog saved a life. They surely can't say that about their dogs!

  • @maximum411

We talked to my sister and she doesn't want to do anything like fostering puppies, until we move and her son is a few months old. My grandmother though rescued a puppy today and it is a mix of a teacup poodle and a toy saymoe. It is 10 weeks old and we're gonna use that puppy for the baby. Thx for helping!!!!

  • @spunkygen49

That's fantastic! Know that by deciding not to breed you have saved lives- thank you so much!

  • @maximum411

welcome. We're about to go and introduce the dog to the puppy. The puppy did not come from a breeser. What happened was the momma dog was an outside dog and a male dog escaped from it's home and well.. .. they got puppies. She was the only one left. We're thinking about nameing her Anacaona

  • Lots of people breed their dogs because they think "oh, it will be cute to have little puppies" and "my dog is great, everyone will want her puppies." What often happens is that people let their dogs have the puppies, can't get rid of them, and end up having to dump them at the shelter. I've seen it many times before, and it's sad.

It may sound cool now to breed a "cocker terrier," but it will be no different from all the other crosssbred dogs waiting for homes in shelters.

  • Even if you are lucky enough to find homes for all of the puppies, they will be taking the place of puppies that could have been adopted from shelters.

I don't want to sound mean, but I want you to know what you will be doing if you breed these puppies. Please reconsider- if you want puppies you can foster a pregnant dog from a local shelter. Just don't breed!

And I agree, PETA is often too extreme, but their hearts are in the right places. How they act on their sentiments is often wrong though.
