Sterile processors are such a vital and crucial team in surgical team-work. They should be given so much more control over the availability of such instrumentation in non-emergency surgeries.
That earlier post was meant to be aimed CJD (human variety of Mad Cow Like prion infections causing dementia). Such sets must be isolated until the patient dies and is autopsied to ID CJD as the cause, Until such a postmortem diagnosis , it is unsafe and unwise to use such instrumentation. Such infections are caused by a necrotizing protein impervious to any anti-infection actions. I do believe that the dementia had already set in on those managing their re-use.
No matter how well trained you are the OR's will routinely negate protocols laid down by the manufacturers of said items. Techs have no power to prevent potential unsafe use by other healthcare professional. I say this as tech with many years of experience. Sets considered possibly at risk of CJS exposure were autoclaved 10 times and labelled "Enhanced" and put back into use at the QE2 Hospital even though Incineration is the only method of destroying the prions causing CJD
@Blackoil911. It is for men in woman. Even hermaphrodites. I even know a couple transgender who work CSP. I even know a jack ass ( my ex team leader )
