I tend to agree with you. Mutter being who she is, who can argue againts her initiatives? The way this masterpice SHOULD be played has been defined by Szeryng, but I guess we can allow some "different opinions" on occasions... just to reinforce the conviction that Szeryng's interpretation will remain the undisputable reference forever.
Superba interpretare.
@TheDystopiaInside - they are very good too (of course...) but they don't do the first repeat so they are poor value for money, relatively speaking...
Arguably the most beautiful violinist of the 20th (and 21st century), Mutter certainly takes a very aggressive shot at the Kreutzer. Unfortunately, she thinks that adding slight pauses and letting her virbrato squeel at the end of phrases is good musicianship. Intriguing is her approach to deliberately distort tempos and the flow of the music in an age where everyone seems to only try to play as smoothly as possible. For that, she provides an interesting view that is worth hearing.

I think the pianist here is fine. The best performance I've heard of this would have to be Pearlman/Ashkenazy though.

Mutter could choose any pianist in the world but I can see why she prefers Orkis. They are both superb. More than superb - supersuperb!

The most beautiful violinist of the 21 century is my wife but I fear she only plays in our own living room.
