  • Great song & great memories! Thanks.

  • Killer riff, kick ass song! Written by, believe it or not, David Gates, who would write and sing all the big hits for the soft-rock group Bread! But then again, he also produced the earliest recordings of avant-blues-rocker Captain Beefheart. Alternate vocals, too...rawer than the version on the first Monkees album.

  • the monkees eran mis favoritos en mi juventud. Gracias por poder verlos nuevamente

  • They ain't better The Beatles, but I

    love their songs.

  • I think they're better than the beatles they have very upbeat music

  • your an idiot they werent better than the Dave Clark Five let alone the Beatles!!

they did do great songs though well ok they probably were better than the DCF

  • i have never even head of the dave clark 5 so sorry

  • Notice that this is not the album version. Here Mike and Davy sing back vocals, instead of Boyd and Hart (which, in my opinion, sound a lot better!)

  • never realized that but ur right

  • The Monkees were and still are great. their music will put ya in a great mood no matter what kind of day you are having.

  • Little children don't fit the song.

  • im a saturday's child, whoop!

  • Great ......monkees were special.......

  • 1:25 to 1:28 WTF?!?!?

  • Uhh... Davy and A little girl ridding a horse?

  • Chris Hansen didn't have his first camera yet.

  • i think its his daughter

  • ah, i love this song. The Monkees were amazing group. All the bands now are loud and crude.

  • I love this song! I had forgotten about it . One of those senior moments.

  • WOW love this I remember they were in Sydney Australia Oct 68...wild!

  • David Gates of the band Bread wrote this classic!

  • I've always loved the Monkees, because they always had good music, and they were funny.

Man I had good memories watching them when I was a kid.

  • Not a bad version of the song, although there's no definitive version...I still prefer Herman's Hermits version from the album "There's a Kind of Hush."

  • it was written by david gates of bread he said.. how many perceive the influence of hendrix or vice versa?

  • I'm writing this comment on my brothers account. I love watching this video i'm 48 around the same age those kids were when this video was made it just take me back those innocent times that as we all grow older we all lone for so much.

  • Yay! Great song! I didn't know until today that it was written by David Gates of Bread.

  • They aren't singing about children so the vid is odd.

  • I remember this video but there was another used instead of this one.

  • Such great memories. No matter what became of them- the songs are still great.

  • this reminds me of how I was always in front of the tv to watch and sing along with them weekly. Timeless

  • Those little kids in the video are now in their late 40s now. Time sure passes fast!

  • I wish we can just jump in a time-machine and go back to better time like those.

  • A time when the pop music industry wasn't formulated...

Sure, the Monkees arent the best example, but hell, theres a game of stacks on with young kids... throw that up today and there'd immediately be big paedophilia question marks thrown up all over the place.

  • Innocent times. Better times.

  • i hope Peter's up and about like this soon!

  • Legal download should be available from Amazon.

  • u realize that they'd probabibly b arrested for hanging out with a bunch of kids like that now a days! the 60s were a more innocent time ;)

  • This sounds slightly different from the album. Any info?

  • Mm, im pretty sure these guys made every girl wish she were Saturday's Child to be honest :P I'm happy though, I'm a Sunday's Child :D So at least I got a compliment ^^

    <3 Mike and Davy

  • I love this song...

    Written by David Gates.

Great lead guitar solo by either Glen Campbell or Louie Shelton.

Kudos to Micky Dolenz on lead vocal.

  • Wayne Irwin and Gerri mcgee also played on this.. wow i love Monkees fans!!!

  • Wow. Mike's driving that dune buggy pretty close to the people on the beach.

  • WOW! Today in Chicago it's 19 degrees, snow on the ground and gray skys. There's a winter advisory until 12pm tonite! Then after that there's a blizzard advisory and after all that later in this week it's supposed to sub-zero cold going into the weekend. I'm depressed and I needed to look at this warmth to make me feel better.

  • haha love this song. ♥♥♥ i tried to download it off the interenet, but since it wastn't one of their HUGE hits, i couldn't find anything that doesn't give me a virus. (one time i almost got it but the site gave me 5 trojans)...

  • Sturg...You can get the download from amazon for .99.

I don't get why people illegally download music. Would YOU want to work for free?

That and Karma's a b*tch. What we steal from others gets stolen from us.

And people wonder why they're always broke or why the country's in the shape its in.

    KARMA.

  • Well, so I'm cursed for life, then...

    Nice song, thou!

  • The guitars on the early Monkees LPs were some of the best of the (pre-Hendrix/Beck) era. There's some serious guys on these (Campbell, Shelton) they were players...

  • This is such a great song! I saw them in 97' AWESOME!

  • You can hear those old Vox amps break up...Love it.

  • What a fun video. I bet they had a blast making it with those kids on the beach !!!

  • Those kids are now in their forties.

  • Havent heard this classic in so long. Thanks for uploading.

  • You're welcome!

  • me gustaria saber quienes eran los musicos en estos temas que son buenisimos, ya que esta claro que mickey, peter ni davy no tocaban ni el timbre

  • ¿No estoy seguro qué usted dice?

  • Written by David Gates of Bread fame,I believe Hermins Hermits did a version of this as well.

  • That's one of my favourite episodes. "What is your name?" Peter "What?" computer: "last name What. First name?" Peter: "It's not 'what'" computer "First name Not What. What is your occupation, Mr. Not What What?" Peter "Look, my my isn't Not What What" computer "spelling correction. Correct letter please" Peter "I ... " Computer: "Correct letter is I. You are not Not What, you are Nit Wit."

  • i could listen to this song all day! hmmm... i think i'll play it again!

  • can't decide between this song or the PORPOISE SONG at the monkees #1 hit..

  • This song was album "filler", and it sounds like it, but somehow it also sounds like a hit (at least top 20).

  • this was actually supposed to be the first single off of the LP

  • Was it "Last Train to Clarksville" they chose instead? Did they even use this song as a "B" side? I guess it didn't make any difference, because we listened to that debut album endlessly, and we knew (and liked) the non-hits as much as the hits.

  • I like the song, but it reminds me of The Candy Man Can...

  • Hermans Hermits Does a Version of this Song almost Identical to The Monkees Version

  • Whatever different opinions we may all have. This is by far one of my most favorites groups the monkees. Somehow it shows that the music and songs were all clean fun and those of us who lived that era enjoyed it the most. Thanks for posting their videos and keep them up alive!

  • You're welcome!

  • For some reason, unicycles with training wheels never quite caught on as a fad. Of all the tunes that David Gates wrote for others in the 60s, this is the one I have the most trouble picturing Bread performing.

  • i have a unicycle with training wheels. however, they are skate board wheels and they are in the front. i think its called a skate-cycle.

    its reeeeally hard to use.

    anyways, i love the monkees.

  • How much fun is this? This is great! Thanks so much!

  • that proves what good guys they all were

  • Lucky kids

  • AH!!! 0_0

Since I've been a fan, I've wished my name was Valleri, Mary, Sandra, etc-- but I just checked and I was born a Saturday's child!! :D These things never happen to me. XD I'm happy now...

  • This song has been stuck in my head for about three days now, but i keep listening to it and putting it back in there. LOVE THE VIDEO!

  • Oh thank you so much for putting this video on Youtube. Its one of my favorites. You've made my morning.

  • Glad to hear it, you're welcome!

  • saw the guys live at Doheny days at Doheny state beach minus peter tork in 1997, totally the sound of the summer and of the sixties, they are right up there with the beach boys ,

  • I can't believe they aren't in the hall of fame already! I hate that!! On every forum I chat on, the link to the petition is in my siggy. Thanks for the link! I hope they get in. ^^

Love this song! Just bought the collector's edition CD set and I'm glad this one's on it. ^^

  • Yay, thanks for spreading the link around. :) Did you sign? What number were you? I'm number 600.

  • Of course~! :D

    I'm not sure actually. o___o

  • Send a letter to Jon Landau or Jann Wenner, they are on the induction committee. They need to feel the heat.

  • Excellent song to dance too. I don't mind dancing 60's style :-)

  • great song and vid!

    thanks for this upload!

  • to whoever sent me the msg, i signed about 9 months ago when pete was on a local news show and i went to his website to buy his album, cambria hotel. my sisters signed also. MORE THAN DESERVED!

  • I love this song!! :D

  • They recycled romp sequences over and over. You're alluding to the episode "Captain Crocodile." "Monkees v. Machine" was the toymaking factory. They were on for two seasons. But usually in season two, they would only use romps if from season 1 if Micky had a hat on as he wore a straight-haired wig in season one, so they would all look like the Beatles.

  • No, not a straight-haired wig--he just straightened his hair by wearing a stocking or something on his head for a while. But yeah, it was to get that "Beatle haircut" look. You can tell in many beach scenes that his hair is starting to curl.

  • it was a wig. in the pilot for the first season, (theone where they do the sweet 16 party and help the girl for her finals), micky does the "holding his hair down," technique, which is used in many romps, but his hair is too poufed out and blow dryers weren't around in those days. it was a wig. that's why they make a big deal about him coming back in seas 2, "what happened to your hair, babe?" in an interview with a minute left to go. but glad you love them and aren't clueless. erin

  • I love Micky's curly hair!! Reminds me of my hair: curly and unruley.

  • I still don't think it was a wig. The fans at Monkeeland have had this discussion, and all of them say that Micky has said it was not a wig, that he straightened it. Plus, pictures of him when he was in the music studio and other candid, off-the-set photographs show him with hair that looks almost exactly like it looks on the show. In particular, there's a picture of him while he was still in college, and his hair looks almost exactly like it did in the pilot. I think the afro was a perm.

  • It wasn't a wig. Micky's hair was straight during the first season and during part of the second season episodes. He switched over to the Afro style during an early break in filming. Another party asserted in the 90s that both Micky and Mike were bald when the series was being made and that both wore toupees. The person also asserted that many male rock stars suffered from baldness and wore toupees, yet his only proofin any of his assertions was his say so.

  • Thank you for agreeing with me. I had read that it was a wig, but after looking at pictures of him off-the-set, I had decided that it was not. He definitely didn't wear a wig when he was in Circus Boy (though his hair was dyed blond), and his hair was straight but somewhat wavy. Other pictures of him as a kid show this, too, and pictures of him in the late 70s, early 80s show that his hair was pretty straight. The afro had to be a perm.

  • I agree. There were no wigs, just crazy hair styles back then.

  • I've heard it both ways. And I think it could have worked both ways, I dunno.

  • aww. the hair is wicked! lol i love it =D

mickey always done it for me haha =)

one of my favourite bands ever.

how the programme on tv no more. they might in america...but im in england =( lol

  • Love it!!!!!!!!! Was this the episode where they were on Captain Kangaroo?

  • This is from the episode "Monkee vs. Machine". :)

  • Love it! :D

  • Beautiful!!! This song makes me want to dance.

  • I know, it's such a bouncy fun tune!

  • I signed the petition.

  • Yay! What number were you?

  • Love this song, the Monkees and this video!

  • Don't you wonder why this song was just album "filler" when it should have made the Top 40?

  • Yes, this song is so fun and it always makes my get in the right mood:).....it should have made the top 40 becaus it's fun to listen the Monkees are so fun and they sing so well!

  • Yes, this song is so fun and it always makes my get in the right mood:).....it should have made the top 40 becaus it's fun to listen the Monkees are so fun and they sing so well!

  • I was a faithful (if young) Monkee fan back in the day! And I listened to this album (their first) many times over.

  • I'm a pretty new fan but I just love all their songs! Great to hear that you love the Monkees so much :D:)

  • Mike's mother was the inventor of Liquid Paper.

  • Favorite Line From This Episode: DJ61:What is your name? Mike: Nesmith, whats yours! Fun Fact: This was Peter's favorite episode!

  • Duh!

  • Lots of practice for the *15* kids these guys had later, LOL.

  • really romantic, one of the best monkees songs ever! Always gets me!

  • Can you imagine a video like this being made today? The insurance company would never let actor's do stunts and fool around like theses guys do oh so well. That's what makes this show so much fun. And as for playing with little kids....

  • This is one of the reasons I liked and still like the Monkees...they appealed to teens, adults (at least the "hip" ones), and kids. Some of their music may have been considered "radical" by a few back then, but at least it wasn't profane and hateful like so much of the music today. I, for one, think they were great musicians. They were four young guys thrown together not by choice and made the best of it. Hey...they were as big as the Beatles back then! Cuter than the Beatles, too...lol.

  • You got it!!!

  • oh man, you rock! couldn't have said it better myself! Micky was cuter that all of the Beatles put together! I still know people like myself who still have girly crushes, mostly on Mike though! lol

  • Looks like Peter is a regular little dare devil. Davys' not that far behind. I've seen him(Pete) swing from ropes, hang upside down from a rope ladder jump over sand dunes on a motorcycle. It's a wonder he hasn't broken something.

  • I love the Monkeemobile!

  • Will gladly sign petition!

  • This is so sweet! The Guys are like almost babysitting! Those unicycles are so cool!

  • What I would have given at that age to have been in Peter's lap on those swings!!! Now at the age I am now, I'd be facing the other way on his lap and kissing his neck hehehe!

  • It really is a beautiful video with the California sand and sun circa 1966.

  • Did you notice, Peter didn't make it into the dune buggy with Davy? I love this clip!

  • Does anybody know who did the guitar solo on this song? Thanks!!!

  • Davy Jones shirtless Grrrr! never get tired of seeing that. and Peter looks so cute in this vid espically when they are in the Monkee mobile and he is holding up his hands like he is saying look ma no hands.

  • You can see the look of shock on his face after he comes to a halt and looks up. Its like wooaah!!

  • OOOOMMMMGGG my poor Pete!!! Now I cringe every time that part comes. I didn't notice it till you pointed it out genericgeorge )':

  • At:0.50 Peter nearly does himself a nasty accident. Missed breaking his neck by inches.

  • Wow, you're right!

  • What ever happened to the Monkee-Mobile?

  • Maybe this was before it? Or it just didn't ride well on the sand. :)

  • Yeah, we saw this video on TV, and we were all like "Ow Peter!!"

  • Did anyone out there know that the Monkees had more top 10 hits than the Beatles did from 1965 to 1970? I just thought some fans might like to know that. I used to work as a professional D.J. part time and I had access to some little and/or unknown facts about bands and their music.

  • What a cute video! They were so good with the little kids.

  • What's even cuter is playing this video--turning the sound down and playing "Getting Better" by The Beatles--it totally fits, timing and all! I loved it! Hehe..

  • Wow, never thought of doing that, but that song would go good with this video too. And I love the Beatles also.

  • This is my favorite Monkees song!

  • heartwarming.

  • nice, sweet and innocent. Loved this video, nowadays if a band made a video with kids on a beach they would probably be hit with pedophile charges. Oh how I miss "back in the day"......

  • I know! That was one of my thoughts on maybe my second or third viewing of this romp. That's so sad too...

  • Ah, the original music videos!

  • I signed!
