I think this is the only version I've heard so far that doesn't either sound like someone stepping on a squeaker for the high notes or just guffing on the low ones. You can hear every word too, Bravissimo!
I was raised on her Queen of the Night, I had the LP in the late 50s and I've still never heard her equal. I'm not a fan of coloraturas in general, LOATHE Sutherland, but Rita ande Bubbles can do no wrong!!!
After looking around youtube for a really good performance of this aria I finally found it. This is the best rendition so far. Crystal clear voice, perfect pitch, no exaggerated vibrato. You can even understand the lyrics. I totally agree, it's so effortless. This is always a sign for skill.
I am not an expert, and I don't know the correct term, but even these squiggles that lead to the 8 high C's and A's are not sung sluggishly or are overshadowed by vibrato.
@sanjuuyonsai This was the first version i ever heard on a recording with Dietrich Fisher Dishkau. I was 18 yrs old. I've never hear one that even comes close.
Absolutely great and excellent, but listen also to Erna Berger, who discovered Rita Streich and was her teacher too. The queen of the night was her most famous role.
the notes above high C are so clear, such amzing coloratura, such amazing melisma, such amazing licks and runs, opera ppl should teach a thing or two to R&B singers
AkiraChan24 according to your profile you are only 16 yrs old. You should NOT be singing the Queen of the Night aria at your age. Your teacher should know this! Yes this song is very fun (and difficult!) to sing, but if you keep singing songs like this at your age you will probably not have any hope of a long career in voice. I'm not saying this to be mean, its just truthful. Good luck with your voice, have fun, but be safe. :)
It may not be range problem for you, however a 16 yr old voice is just not mature enough to handle this role. The Queen of the Night is a Dramatic Coloratura role; most dramatic coloraturas start off as Lyric Coloraturas and their voices mature into a DC. If you sing it, make sure you sing is as light as possible. I'm not trying to knock you or your teacher; I just want to make sure you do whats best for your voice. If you have any questions or just want to talk PM me. Good luck and God Bless :)
stephpyle06 and lildrummer1987 are correct, hun. Did you know that Natalie Dessay had surgery on her vocal chords? Dramatic coloratura roles are voice killers and should only be handled by those who have been very specifically trained after maturation to do this. Dramatic coloraturas (even the very best) do get sick frequently and good ones are very hard to come by for professional stages. That's why the command such high compensation in their contracts.
Just be careful. I would at least read about Natalie Dessay (another wildly popular Queen of the Night) who required surgical attention to her vocal chords which is a very risky operation and talk to your teacher. Keep in mind that Natalie Dessay sings at the Paris Opera. We're talking about a woman who is among the very best of her kind.
If your teacher is quick to dismiss your concerns without fully explaining herself, then your teacher does not have your best interests at heart.
queen of the night is ok to do when ur alittle older. in my opinion its more a specialist role. u dont have to be like edda moser or deutekom, as long as you bring a special somethign to it. its def not necessary to scream to be effective, not that they scream lol.
It's not a concern about your range, but about the maturation of your voice. You'll ruin it if you keep on singing this aria at the age of 16 when a voice isn't grown to do so.
Good grief, this is astonishing! I'm so pleased I found it, thank you.
She really does make it sound so effortless compared to others.

N' empêche qu' il ne faut pas oublier cette fameuse chanteuse autrichienne.
