  • Good grief, this is astonishing! I'm so pleased I found it, thank you.

She really does make it sound so effortless compared to others.

  • I think this is the only version I've heard so far that doesn't either sound like someone stepping on a squeaker for the high notes or just guffing on the low ones. You can hear every word too, Bravissimo!

  • Crystal clear and beautifully precise - very few sopranos can do this piece justice but she is one of the few who have.

  • i absolutely just love them notes !

  • Oh my Lord, this literally made me tear up. Her voice is just... pure operatic silk!

  • You will note that there are 9 people who are either tone deaf or simple minded

  • This is why people continue to write music. Because we have people like this. <3

  • wonderful!!! finally i can figure out which notes there are! usually they do a 3/4 tone vibrato which makes everything uncomprehensible!!

  • I can hardly imagine a sharper, more precise delivery.

  • Sehr schön gesungen - fast zu schön.

    Super schöne Stimme, super Treffsicherheit.

So schön gesungen, dass man der Hölle Rache nicht mehr richtig kochen hört.

  • fantastique , rien de plus à dire

  • OMG...... if they very start cloning ppl she should be on that list. hell i'll become a scientist and clone her myself

  • Wonderful singing!

  • this is impecable, she has such beautiful tone! and hits those high notes with what seems like no effort at all... very well done :)

  • "Rita Streich" nous l' avions oublié (je ne sais même plus comment je l' ai connue, au moins j' ai son nom dans l' oreille).

N' empêche qu' il ne faut pas oublier cette fameuse chanteuse autrichienne.

Au revoir & merci from BELGIUM (Liège).

  • This is the best Queen of the Night ever.

  • I don't think I have ever heard it sung quite so effortlessly!!!

  • one of the best!

  • my gosh... so clear... love her voice.

  • I was raised on her Queen of the Night, I had the LP in the late 50s and I've still never heard her equal. I'm not a fan of coloraturas in general, LOATHE Sutherland, but Rita ande Bubbles can do no wrong!!!

  • Her voice's so amazing!!

  • After looking around youtube for a really good performance of this aria I finally found it. This is the best rendition so far. Crystal clear voice, perfect pitch, no exaggerated vibrato. You can even understand the lyrics. I totally agree, it's so effortless. This is always a sign for skill.

I am not an expert, and I don't know the correct term, but even these squiggles that lead to the 8 high C's and A's are not sung sluggishly or are overshadowed by vibrato.

    I even shed a tear.

  • @sanjuuyonsai This was the first version i ever heard on a recording with Dietrich Fisher Dishkau. I was 18 yrs old. I've never hear one that even comes close.

  • fantastic!

  • Consistent, not to mention brilliant, bravo!

  • Wirklich unglaublich! Intonation, diction, line, drama. Is there a soprano who has this today? If there is, forgive my ignorance.

  • @Wildepianist Completely agree! And also clarity and beauty of tone - the most exquisite voice. It's just astonishing!

  • Perfect

  • The best Queen of the night!

  • she is the onlysinger i have ever heard who does not squeek, scratch or shreik in this aria. The notes just float out of her voice.

  • very beautiful!!!!

  • very beautiful!!!!

  • Intoxicating as someone has commented. I adore her.

  • I was most fortunate many years ago to see Rita Streich in The Magic Flute twice in Berlin, and what a joy to find her here. Thank you.

  • One of the better, if not best, classic renditions of this song.

  • Very beautiful!!!!!!!!!

  • Very beautiful!!!!!!!!!

  • @MARKSVIGIL

please do it again. you have left the 'e' off one

  • @inca48 My humble apology!

There's only one Rita Streich! We have been Blessed by her beautiful & intoxicating voice.

  • @MARKSVIGIL

You are so right about intoxicating, I can't get enough of her.

  • @inca48 Sorry, I didn't have my morning coffee when I wrote my previous comment.

  • it sounds effortless.... just beautiful.

  • there will be no better version of this song even at least as good as it

  • ********FANTASTICA*******************thanks****

  • This is incredible. I wish I could sing like that!

  • my MOST favorite of all!! sooo beautiful!!!

  • It sounds so effortless! What a phenomenal talent and skill!

  • Her voice is like silk.

  • So amazing! They don't make 'em like this anymore!

  • Oh my God, this is unbelievable, I love it!

  • Bravo! Beautiful voice and singing.!

  • che meraviglia.

  • Absolutely great and excellent, but listen also to Erna Berger, who discovered Rita Streich and was her teacher too. The queen of the night was her most famous role.

  • fantastic voice!!!!!

  • i've never heard someone singing queen of the night using such a beautiful voice.

    how could she do this??

    it's amazing!!

  • it's so beautiful

thank you mozart for blessing us with your music

  • Magnificent singing! TY!

  • Superb would be an insult to this perfect performance. She is simply awesome! Brava! TY.

  • How about magnificent? THANK YOU!

  • Thank You Mozart for bringing me here ! 5* more !

  • Great!

Unfortunatly, nobody can do this now as good as she (

  • Quite Arguably the most difficult female aria to sing and she nailed it almost PERFECTLY. This woman has some incredible pipes!

  • superb!!!

  • she does it perfectly....... she doesn´t just reach the high notes, she gives them the maliciousness of the queen of tha night

  • Best performance of this I've heard

  • The best performer ever for 'Der hölle rache'. Rita Streich: LOVE U

  • Such clarity in high notes!

    Bravo!

I must say this is some great talent.

Queen of the night is such a difficult song and Rita just performs it so wonderfully perfect.

What i would give to be able to sing as well as she can.

  • It sounds so effortless.

  • Simply wonderful!

  • WOW I love her!! she is the best I ever heard!! I admire her, i also want to have such a voice! meeeaanxD

  • the clearest voice iv'e heard so far. this is not a very easy song to sing

  • Lovely! Thanks!

  • the notes above high C are so clear, such amzing coloratura, such amazing melisma, such amazing licks and runs, opera ppl should teach a thing or two to R&B singers

  • Great! Perfect! The best I have heard.

And imagine how it would have sounded taken with a present day recording technology.

  • The best queen? Sure for me.

  • I'm doing this song in my singing class. I wonder if I'll ever sound as good as her. Most likely not

  • AkiraChan24 according to your profile you are only 16 yrs old. You should NOT be singing the Queen of the Night aria at your age. Your teacher should know this! Yes this song is very fun (and difficult!) to sing, but if you keep singing songs like this at your age you will probably not have any hope of a long career in voice. I'm not saying this to be mean, its just truthful. Good luck with your voice, have fun, but be safe. :)

  • Why do you say that? It's not a range problem for me.

  • It may not be range problem for you, however a 16 yr old voice is just not mature enough to handle this role. The Queen of the Night is a Dramatic Coloratura role; most dramatic coloraturas start off as Lyric Coloraturas and their voices mature into a DC. If you sing it, make sure you sing is as light as possible. I'm not trying to knock you or your teacher; I just want to make sure you do whats best for your voice. If you have any questions or just want to talk PM me. Good luck and God Bless :)

  • stephpyle06 and lildrummer1987 are correct, hun. Did you know that Natalie Dessay had surgery on her vocal chords? Dramatic coloratura roles are voice killers and should only be handled by those who have been very specifically trained after maturation to do this. Dramatic coloraturas (even the very best) do get sick frequently and good ones are very hard to come by for professional stages. That's why the command such high compensation in their contracts.

Protect your voice! Let it mature!

  • Well my teacher wanted me to do it. I'm a lyric coloratura atm.

  • Just be careful. I would at least read about Natalie Dessay (another wildly popular Queen of the Night) who required surgical attention to her vocal chords which is a very risky operation and talk to your teacher. Keep in mind that Natalie Dessay sings at the Paris Opera. We're talking about a woman who is among the very best of her kind.

If your teacher is quick to dismiss your concerns without fully explaining herself, then your teacher does not have your best interests at heart.

  • Oh, no. She deffinately isn't quick to dismiss. But thank you guys for your concern :)

  • Preserve that voice and you BETTER tell us when you're performing this role on stage. ;-)

  • Lol! Sure thing :)

  • Serious! If I find out that you performed this professionally and didn't tell us, I'll be very unhappy. ;-)

Do you have any of your own performances posted anywhere on youtube?

  • No, afraid not. I might do that at some point though.

  • queen of the night is ok to do when ur alittle older. in my opinion its more a specialist role. u dont have to be like edda moser or deutekom, as long as you bring a special somethign to it. its def not necessary to scream to be effective, not that they scream lol.

  • It's not a concern about your range, but about the maturation of your voice. You'll ruin it if you keep on singing this aria at the age of 16 when a voice isn't grown to do so.

  • Oh my god...

    Majestic.

  • Unbelievable! She is amazing- clear as a bell.

  • Einfach umwerfend!

  • clean voice. the best

  • This is probably the best Queen of the Night I have ever heard.

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!

  • Could someone please upload Streich singing Zerbinetta's monologue.

  • Sizzling
