Here's some more ideas. Insulated water tanks to capture heat and cold when it is there to capture and to use it later. You could air condition your home with the winter's cold and heat your home with heat captured whenever and whereever it was available. If the point is to use less fossil fuel, the technology is available here and now. There are ways to cut fuel waste, that could be put in service this year.
