Not to intrude but Hitler was not a catholic. He used christianity as tool to gain power and to not make too many enemies in his rise to power. But once he was in power it became clear that he was obviously not a catholic, as Mein Kampf was now regarded in the same way as the bible once was. Further nothing can really be drawn from this as Atheists have had there share of blood shed as well.

Newton stuck pins in his eyeball...just to see what would happen. Amidst every controvery there will always be found plenty of holy, authentic clergymen such as was Bellarmine with Galileo. And this is for natural science. For the human sciences and the arts, the foundations are so vast from Catholic authors and workers that they would be hard to describe in its totality.

@gallus1 Go check the Enlightenment's random tortures and murders. The inquisitions also served to built up a fair judicial system, back when faith crimes were severely punished. They went as far as put mold on trial, but of course, persecutions have always existed, they are not even less common today, there's so much corruption, especially among atheists. If you believe there's no real truth or absolute morality, you're prone to serve your present interests at the expense of others more.
