Neither of these patents are the sort that could be helped with this plan.

The first patent that the judge found HTC to have infringed on is one that parses text in a document, email or other communication, and identifies emails, phone numbers, then determines a set of actions that can be made on them each. I.E. Calling the phone number, or sending an email to that address.

The other is a fairly technical method for taking packet or "Burst" data and serializing it for streaming video or audio.

A stretch I know. ;P and in fact that the functionality of "linkifying" is present in all android devices as described in the patent. This one might be feasible with a software solution, but not without removing the automation or developing a completely different solution. (Read: nonstandard to android)

As for the second I can't see how it can be bypassed without changing the hardware configuration of the device.

@FennyFatal Won't the patents be invalidated by prior art, though? I think we've had this parsing tech before Apple patented it in 1996, possibly in some early computers or cellular phones. And also, I don't think the ruling will go that far since I highly doubt the exact methodology of HTC's text parser is a clean copy of Apple's. A big reason is that Android is vastly different from iOS in terms of architecture.

@jjsoviet It's not the parsing itself, it's the method for automation of the parsing combined with the presentation of multiple actions on each parsed item. It is the moment that HTC allows you to do more than just dial the number, or send an email that the patent applies.

I'm down with this. I'd even offer my help if i was a better programmer and i actually oned an android device but i have a secondry suggestion. Report Apple to the Federal Trade commision for anti-competitive practises, grab an impossibley large bag of popcorn and watch the anti-trust suit drop.
