  • We used to call him "Shakin Jake" back in the 70s!

  • I break for Jake!!! I miss running into him and requesting songs. I randomly searched for him on youtube today... RIP old friend.

  • He lived in Saginaw in the 60's he was old then, I notice he gone one summer in 83

and nobody knew where he went. Glad to See A2 took him to heart, I heard he passed in 2007, but somehow I still wanted to check up on him. His life would make a great movie, if anyone knew anything about him, he was everyones friend but we knew so little about him.

  • I was born and raised in Ann Arbor. From the time I was allowed to go downtown at an early age I always remember seeing Mr. Jake. He was a friendly guy who always had a great word! I can not imagine A2 without Jake. Rest in peace my friend.

  • I miss seeing him ='[

  • RIP Jake Woods

  • I lived in Ann Arbor from 1982-1985. I remember seeing Shakey Jake quite a bit. I just found out he died a year later by curiously googling his name today. VERY SAD, yet so cool that he left such a mark on Ann Arbor!

  • rip jake

  • Man could he strum that guitar. R.I.P. Shakey!

  • Shakey Jake was and will always be the man.

It wouldn't be Ann Arbor with out him.

  • i remeber bein downtown with my friends and i gave him a 20...rip..= [

  • It was so sad...i met him one time and we jammed together with another one of my friends...he was so good to people. God Bless..and i know Elmo too hes an awesome guy.

  • Good ole Shakey. I remember seeing him hanging out in the streets years, at least 10, playing and having a good laugh. My younger brother bought a CD or tape from him back then.

    He was something special indeed.

  • when i heard he died it really was a terrible thing i mean in new york there is babe ruth as their legend its like in ann arbor shakey jake is our legend

  • Hey I live in Charlottesville, VA, but Ann Arbor is my home away from home. I've been going there every year since I was six. That was back when Shakey Jake was alive. I know he doesn't remember me, but I remember him. he was one of the coolest guys ever, and everyone will miss him, even some people who don't live in Ann Arbor (including me)

  • i remember giving him a dollar when i was 6 years old. i didnt know him too well, but from what ive heard, i wish i would have gotten to know him.

  • One of a kind and always on the move - you're still the best, Jake! Rest in peace, Maureen Stewart

  • That's sad. He was part of what made Ann Arbor Ann Arbor (for a whole lot of people).

  • great video. it'd be better with subtitles since there is so much background noise.

  • Crazy how many people talking in this video I have met or actually know. Even with how "big" A2 has gotten, it still feels like a small town sometimes.

  • shakey jake was the very coolest! the very VERy coolest- he always brought me up when i was feelin sad- i knew him a bit downtown from childhood. . . . ann arbor won't be the same without him-- its gotten so upscale and lame, and now he won't be there to remind us all what the city REALLY is all about. . . .
