I can hear Bach, White Christmas, Greensleeves & jingle bells on the ES 355.
Then again, i ask myself, how Ritchie painted his particular sound that he also transfered later on his Stratocaster. I don`t think he used that much effects.
Thanks for posting this man. For some reason it seems like camera men hate putting the camera on Blackmore when he is soloing. It is very frustrating. This was a nice video to come across.
I don't know what it is about Blackmore, he just seems to play guitar better than everyone else. I must admit the arrogant swine has me totally hooked.
you guys are arguing for no reason.....there are loads of awsome guitarists in the world,,,,this is what makes it great . all have different styles . it,s maybe the fact that richie wrote so much good stuff that is the point....not the fact that bar bands can play his tunes . listen to rory gallagher if you want to see something unique . jimmy hendrix was once asked ...how does it feel to be the best guitarist in the world....he replied , ask rory gallagher . it,s all a matter of oppinion .
I am not impressed. Blackmore had his day in the sun, but his playing is not a big deal any more. And his "shredding" here is laughable in light of the talent out there these days. Blackmore has not kept up; he progressed to a certain level and just remained there.
@beeroosterm He himself said that he had learned over time that while it's easy to play something fast, it's much harder to convey more, slowly. Given that, he does shred pretty fucking fast. Maybe not as well live, but oh well. What sets him aside form modern musicians, is the innovation. Name one modern musician who has accomplished as much. Go ahead, I challenge you.
@Pur3Purpl3 I would ask that you name what he did that was so "innovative". He had his own unique style/sound, but as far as innovation goes, i don't see it. He played a Strat through Marshall stacks. It had been done...
@beeroosterm He pioneered scalloped frets, he was the first sweep picker (I have proof), he was arguably the first "metal" or atleast psuedo-metal guitarist, he along with jimi hendrix pioneered the "destructive" stage presence they're well known for, etc. want me to keep going?
@Pur3Purpl3 Scalloped frets have been around forever in other guitar-like instruments; can't immediately locate the first electric guitarist to use them. Sweep picking was around long before Blackmore thought to copy it;. Les Paul and Django Reinhardt come to mind. Destructive stage presence? Ever see Jerry Lee Lewis light his piano on fire? Yes, keep going.
@beeroosterm oh dear, someone didn't look to see who had written the comment, I hadn't been arguing with you about that. and you were so confident when you said go home, what a shame hahaha
seriously? alexi laiho is chosen for the best guitarist in the world? Looks like being fast is the only thing that matters these days. Ritchie is one of my favorite guitarists and will allways be.
if you find the right buckethead songs as he puts out like 3 albums a year if not more you'll be blown away , sure everyone in the top liked comment is a VERY versatile list but 30 years or so ago if Buckethead went back he could deifntely go toe to toe with a lot of the stereotypical guitar gods most admire.
this day and age Jeff Loomis is my pick of this generation after 2000
Of all the guitarists to make their mark since 2000 I would pick Tosin Abasi. Check him out if you haven't already. With all due respect to Jeff Loomis, Zero Order Phase got really redundant after the first few songs and he steals too many licks from Yngwie and Jason Becker. His stuff in Nevermore is great, but not #1 worthy imo. Buckethead made his mark in the 90s so he doesn't really qualify for that.
@Fluffypopcicle his solo album wasn't the best but Jeff's work with Nevermore especially on dreaming neon black and of course dead heart in a dead world he really made a name for himself i think, Tosin has his moments but i want to see him grow more before the idolatry , CAFO has a brilliant main solo though.
Buckethead with his current rig and all his guitars and knowledge i'd love to see in a time machine to the 70s , he CAN put out a lot of crappy music but he has gems that can blow us away.
True. Funnel Weaver was garbage, Forensic Follies was literally just remixing songs he already made in a really odd fashion, 2 of the Buckethead Pikes are just really lame improvising, and one of the Buckethead Pikes is just a rehash of a limited edition CD set. However, this doesn't make up 1/50th of his discography so it's not really taking much away from him. That's the only bad material I can think of. Loomis was great in Nevermore, but Tosin is truly revolutionary.
@Fluffypopcicle very true the pikes cds where not worth the download captain Eo's voyage was probably his last good cd but i'd love to see him put out something with an actual singer now that is fully affiliated to him besides buckethead and friends, praxis.. ect.
doesn't animals as leaders only have like one cd so far? tosin brings a lot to the table from other styles i'll give him that and he's original , not like Joe Stump or David Shankle if you never heard them they're not worth searching

Tosin also has a couple of tasty improvs and is also in a band called T.R.A.M. He was also in a band called Reflux and another called PSI. There is a new album coming out with Animals As Leaders in early November too. Joe Stump is the biggest Yngwie copy I have ever heard and David Shankle is insane and has a unique tone, but he isn't doing anything new musically.
Although I'm not a big fan of Deep Purple nor Blackmore's Night(actually i hate that band), I do admire Ritchie for his skill and talent. Plus he's influenced so many genres of music and guitarists. Even Mikael Akerfeldt(Guitarist and singer for prog metal band Opeth) sites Ritchie as one of his biggest influences.
wrong, real art is about being creative and communicating beauty and perfection the unattainable to others so that they can get that rare glimpse beyond the ordinary. Being yourself communicates 1 6billionth of a humdrum ordinary life. It just so happens to be the case that to do it requires raw talent and years and years of dedication.
@rael3imperial Dude, you're stupid ass hell... you should go out and listen for some live performances of Ritchie... Rainbow, Deep Purple, Blackmores nights... there are a lot of epic performances
I happen to think that Blackmore's best solos were on recordings. Whilst in concert he could get sloppy or uninspired but on studio recordings his solo work, as well as song construction, were nothing short of brilliant. His tone and phrasing are uniquely his own. Listen to Stargazer or Burn or Highway Star, I could go on and on and on. But now I will just describe him as he is...The Master!
Discussing who is the best Guitarplayer is like discussing who is the best artist, painter whatever. Is Rubens a better painter than Van Gogh or Picasso or Dali?
It depends on your point of view and the art they perform. RB is a master, so are the rest of the ones you named, Clapton, Page, King etc.
Just sit back and enjoy great artwork and don't make a pissing contest out of it -that's not what they deserve.
Please if you're feeling helpful today help me out in a guitar competition haha! I need as many likes as possible to win. Just go on my channel and like my guitar video if you like it's sound. Love Blackmore with a Gibson Es-335, on a barely distorted tone and a non-master volume Marshall Super Lead. Still gets his " bite" and has that MANIC PICKING. This guy is the GrandDaddy of blazing leads. Blues, classical-metal , jazzy sweeps, Blackers make the electric guitar speak volumes.

He was my favorite guitar player coming out of high school in the late 60's. The In Rock album was superb....I saw them perform it at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh.....great acoustics there.
Some promoter had them opening for Rod Stewart.....LOL.......talk about getting blown off the stage. Child in Time was killer.......
Like someone said, music is no contest, it's all about feelings, the feelings that you have when you listen to Blackmore are different from the ones you feel when you listen to Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi, Albert King, B.B King..and all the guitarist that influenced the current guitar players who also play with their own feelings! Art is all about being yourself!
those morons below who think Blackmore is sloppy should kill themselves. RB is definitely the first shredder, which means? 1) the first to use other modes and scales other than the same pentatonic scales that everibody else (including Hendrix) played in the 60`s and 70`s. 2) the first rock guitarist to sweep pick. 3) the first to incorporate classical music in rock.
@xuxis2008 not only classic - he managed to incorporate the typical Asiatic tunes into real hard-rock riffs (Space Trucking, for example), and that worked perfectly well!
to me its about who changes the face of music not the guy(s) who perfect it. Yngwie Buckethead are excellent musicians but Ritchie Blackmore was the original neo classic shredder!
I never saw what was so great about Blackmore, or Jeff Beck fro that matter. That solo sucked. Yngwie is really annoying as he has been paling the exact same thing for 30 years now. But, Yngwie would play circles around Blackmore.
I love the wring that neck solo, he can make music sound funny, that means using the right feeling for the time, you can clearly see people were amazed by him musical skills, he is a great guitar player.
@Purplesnake41 Hey man give buckethead some respect he is definately a great guitarist. i dont like it when people say things like he has no feeling i have heard solos by him that posses some very melodic emotional parts as well as technical shredding. i am not saying i like one better than the other but the fact that u act like the guy is crazy for liking buckethead is stupid because if u cant admit what a great guitarist he is then u should not be commenting
He isn't. Buckethead honestly destroys Blackmore in any way you can think of. The technical department (obviously), speed (obviously), diversity (over 50 instrumental albums, all being different, over 20 genres under his belt, and he has been involved in over 200 projects), originality (he invented finger nubbing and and his hybrid picking and sweep tapping is way out there along with his odd music), etc. Name one way Blackmore beats Buckethead. Oh, and watch?v=4nu1DyDQPeg
@ricomajestic I love both of them but Blackmore is a WAY better guitarist than Page. For what it's worth my opinion, Page is more exciting Blackmore more technical. The long solo with the 335, however, is quite sloppy for his standards but it's still great.
i think the "sloppyness" adds character.....im sure if he wanted to play clean he would sit down for ages and try become a robot such as broderick and others....but instead of technical ability rictchie just went where his fingers went and if people liked that then great...if they didnt ...he didnt give a fuck.....if he never became famous id say he'd play guitar the exact same and so he should.
At 0:50 the guitar was happily living while Ritchie shreds it real good... After 1:07 mins, the guitar calls 911 amd reported for harsh brutal Abuse towards it.. it died soon later due to extreme injury.. Hail Ritchie.. :)
Blackmore in his early years with DP was one mutha of a guitar player. Look how he plays with the audience...playing lightening fast shreds one minute, and then shifting to a super soft touch playing Bettoven (OK i spelled it wrong, anybody knows how to spell his name, I'm sure I'll hear from U) He always has and always will be THE MASTER.
Oh my God People ! "Page is this and Yngwie is that and dont even mention Hendrix in the same sentence ! I ran a poll and the people spoke and so and so isnt as sloppy ! What pedals is he using ? Strings? He cant never be as good as _______ because he didnt do as many drugs as _______. Well my fav sold more records so he is the better". ..... You people are fucking stupid, the whole lot of you.
blackmore hendrix and page would be nothing without eric clapton he reinvented how u should play guitar with the yardbirds and cream if he had of quit the heroin and kept playing hed have surpassed them all just see what blues legends like bb king and buddy guy have said about clapton they couldnt believe the skill he had unfortunatly today ec is a shadow of his former self but hes been through bad times in his life where as blackmore and page dont know real grief like losing a child EC legend
Nobody can enjoy music anymore unless they can make a fucking contest out of it. The "sloppy" comments below me are quite idiotic. Let's focus on what's more important which are the supersonic jams that have influenced us to pick up our axes. NO guitarist is above or below one another. So let's enjoy the music, especially the guitar work and shut the fuck up. Thank You.
Is this Malmsteens's father? maybe the pilot movie of the series...

RITCHIE BLACKMORE. ENOUGH SAID
Drumguy1988 11 months ago
Like someone said, music is no contest, it's all about feelings, the feelings that you have when you listen to Blackmore are different from the ones you feel when you listen to Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi, Albert King, B.B King..and all the guitarist that influenced the current guitar players who also play with their own feelings! Art is all about being yourself!

@Dudisse great comment!
zzy66613 8 months ago
those morons below who think Blackmore is sloppy should kill themselves. RB is definitely the first shredder, which means? 1) the first to use other modes and scales other than the same pentatonic scales that everibody else (including Hendrix) played in the 60`s and 70`s. 2) the first rock guitarist to sweep pick. 3) the first to incorporate classical music in rock.
xuxis2008 1 year ago
@xuxis2008 not only classic - he managed to incorporate the typical Asiatic tunes into real hard-rock riffs (Space Trucking, for example), and that worked perfectly well!
BlackCrowNavajo 11 months ago
to me its about who changes the face of music not the guy(s) who perfect it. Yngwie Buckethead are excellent musicians but Ritchie Blackmore was the original neo classic shredder!

What is the first solo?
miyavizim 1 year ago
I never saw what was so great about Blackmore, or Jeff Beck fro that matter. That solo sucked. Yngwie is really annoying as he has been paling the exact same thing for 30 years now. But, Yngwie would play circles around Blackmore.
tothatextent 1 year ago
The obvious precursor to Yngwie Malmsteen.

I love the wring that neck solo, he can make music sound funny, that means using the right feeling for the time, you can clearly see people were amazed by him musical skills, he is a great guitar player.

Ritchie Blackmore 2nd best guitarist ever in my opinion, the first being Buckethead.

@Purplesnake41 Hey man give buckethead some respect he is definately a great guitarist. i dont like it when people say things like he has no feeling i have heard solos by him that posses some very melodic emotional parts as well as technical shredding. i am not saying i like one better than the other but the fact that u act like the guy is crazy for liking buckethead is stupid because if u cant admit what a great guitarist he is then u should not be commenting
jay2rocks 1 year ago
@Purplesnake41 he is great musician for sure, but i think he is doing music more for fun

@IMBACHABRI
If you're doing music for something besides fun then you aren't doing it for the right reasons. Music is about enjoyment, or at least good music is.
Fluffypopcicle 5 months ago
@Purplesnake41
Fluffypopcicle 5 months ago
@HarryTheRockerManiac Buckethead has neither the experience nor the skill to be compared with Blackmore. IMHO.

Pretty cool, but I don't *quite* get what the fuss is about, I'm afraid. I liked his attitude though, seemed like a fun guy ^__^

You like guitarists from 2 generations after. (I looked at your channel)
They were influenced by guitarists themselves influenced by Blackmore (mainly) and the like.

@Kashmir0109 Page is overrated as a guitarist and songwriter. Maybe a little better than Blackmore but not the best of that era.
ricomajestic 1 year ago
@ricomajestic I love both of them but Blackmore is a WAY better guitarist than Page. For what it's worth my opinion, Page is more exciting Blackmore more technical. The long solo with the 335, however, is quite sloppy for his standards but it's still great.

What good they were many years ago ........ And what he has now?? But this band deserves better ... Blackmore was wrong (((I Love Deep Parpl)
artiomka555 1 year ago
i think the "sloppyness" adds character.....im sure if he wanted to play clean he would sit down for ages and try become a robot such as broderick and others....but instead of technical ability rictchie just went where his fingers went and if people liked that then great...if they didnt ...he didnt give a fuck.....if he never became famous id say he'd play guitar the exact same and so he should.

At 0:50 the guitar was happily living while Ritchie shreds it real good... After 1:07 mins, the guitar calls 911 amd reported for harsh brutal Abuse towards it.. it died soon later due to extreme injury.. Hail Ritchie.. :)
fenderstratocaster96 1 year ago
Blackmore in his early years with DP was one mutha of a guitar player. Look how he plays with the audience...playing lightening fast shreds one minute, and then shifting to a super soft touch playing Bettoven (OK i spelled it wrong, anybody knows how to spell his name, I'm sure I'll hear from U) He always has and always will be THE MASTER.

blackmore hendrix and page would be nothing without eric clapton he reinvented how u should play guitar with the yardbirds and cream if he had of quit the heroin and kept playing hed have surpassed them all just see what blues legends like bb king and buddy guy have said about clapton they couldnt believe the skill he had unfortunatly today ec is a shadow of his former self but hes been through bad times in his life where as blackmore and page dont know real grief like losing a child EC legend

Thank You.
