  • Are You able to add 16 gb of ram?

  • You need to be certified.- A+ My arse! Wouldn't let you touch a screwdriver let alone a laptop. Nice fail with the keyboard connector by the way Sausage Fingers.

  • Thanks... but a word of caution to prevent damage. There were quite a few more screws at every step (three more screws under battery casing before the top plastic comes off).. Quite a few more screws before the circuit board lifts out !!

.. but was getting nowhere till I viewed the video.

  • Thanks for the Memory (memories?) - Used your video to install a 1gb stick. My unit was slightly different, The hard drive was attached to the underside of the mother board hence there was no hdd ribbon cable to detach. it all came out together -. Also there was already .5 gb stick in the slot - so I pulled it and inserted the 1gb - - the memory was a VERY tight fit - Kingston. But The time and effort paid me back in spades! - my most complex app was locking up all the time - no more!

  • you are crazy your laptop is dismantol haha no repair your laptop is go to trush can!!!

  • thanks so much!!!

just added 1g today and my old netbook is flying. Had it in the basement collecting dust because it was so slow. Thanks again

  • Proč to dělat jednoduše, když Acer. Mno aspoň že mám k tomu videonávod, díky za něj. :-)

  • is this the acer aspire one ZG5?

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but.. isn't 1.5Gb ram the RAM cap for that model? ¬¬

what a waste of time and money even if you put a 2GB module you will get 1.5GB only.

  • Acer wins the award for the worst ever design of a netbook. Seriously, that is the single most ridiculous place I've ever seen someone put a RAM slot.

  • Jesus Christ. I was thinking of doing this to my Aspire One until I saw this video. Now, I think I'll just cut a hole in the bottom of it.... lol

  • Jesus Christ. I was thinking of doing this to my Aspire One until I saw this video. Now, I think I'll just cut a hole in the bottom of it.... lol

  • Cool tutorial. Helped me a lot :D

    Thanks.

  • can you only install 1 gig of RAMon those and do you have to have a special kind for acer netbooks?

  • My aspire one also had the HD as stated in other comments.

I ran into the problem of finding out the power connector supply thingy ma bob wire and broken off the solder. Which was causing my intermittent charging.

Alas, thanks for the tutorial. I found it very useful. I did have my computer back together to find my total memory to be 1532mb. But it's in pieces again waiting to be soldered. Hence why I'm replying on an iPod touch( and the sloppy punctuation)

  • Fucking retarded spot for ram acer.....

  • you'd better put 32G SDHC card into expansion slot and move swap file to it with all cache and software

  • lol this guy is joke he fucked up the keyboard connector theres no way hes freaking A+ Certified

  • BOOOO!!!!!

why thank you for showing me how to put all the connections back properly. everything works, *EXCEPT* my touch-pad clicker!!!!!

and for your information, the stupid ram slot you installed into was the one accessible from the bottom, so this was all a WASTE OF TIME!!!!!

  • A + certification dont mean nothing.

  • yea he should try lifting the clamp on the ribbon cable instead of ripping it off

  • did anyone else think the song that played when he was taking out screw was gonna turn into yakety sax?

  • @elitegroup08 wtf, if ur saying u have big balls and my mum has seen them, then i wunt be surprised, shes a prostitute

  • @elitegroup08 nerds dont have big balls, sorry

  • Great vid... had to get that crap fan working and to add some thermal paste.

  • It would be easier if the engineer used their head and put in the quick access door from the bottom of the Aspire One with the 2 crew. Think about it. Which is the most likely component user would want to install on the laptop? Hard Drive? Screen? Keyboard? or Just the RAM!

  • Don't break the keyboard connector like this clown did..... flip it up before you pull the ribbon cable out.

  • I used small screwdrivers to avoid doing exactly what he did with the keyboard ribbon connector.

Once the keyboard had been removed I also used the small screwdrivers to gently prise the top cover off the lower part of the case.

    (continued...)

  • (...continued)

The video shows a netbook with the solid state 'hard drive' - mine has the real hard drive which is much bigger, and to lift up the motherboard I also had to remove the green pcb seen on the left edge. There are 3 screws, one of which is *very* tight and people must be careful not to strip the head. It always helps when using a screwdriver of the correct size.

Job completed I installed windows 7 and Ubuntu.

  • Just upgraded the girlfriends and i am selling the old RAM on ebay cheap

    Item number: 150449380403

  • How are you supposed to re-connect the keyboard ribbon? Mine came off the black clip just like yours....how do i do it in reverse order? Does Acer really make these things this cheap?!

  • what RAM brick did u put in there? DDR or DDR2? what speed on it? id u tell me tath, i will upgrade my acer aspire one zg5 too :D

  • wtf does balls have to do with this?

  • Thanks. Worked a treat!

  • thanx for the video... but FUCKKK THATTT...

i'm payin whatever extra to get that fixed with warranty...

  • my school gave me exact this laptop...(like everyone in school) its so fking lame... so slow... and we had to pay 400 euro for it, forced to

  • COOL

  • hw akipped a step, ur suppose to remove the two screws on the right top corner to remove the stero jack...

  • how many ram slot does this have? only one slot?

  • @crunchgear, can you just get it to the store, where you buyed it from and let them do it? I'm 14 years old, and I am really scared for breaking my Acer Aspire One. =(

  • u'd better be scared, let the fear consume you!!!!!!! LMFO

  • haha. -.-'

  • ...Unless you have balls of steel

    LOL

  • wow this is so painful ,bad design from acer thats why they are cheap.hp mini takes 30 seconds and u dont have to fuk ur system up like this.

  • @mapleleaf11 So agree. I have an Asus and all I had to do was open up one tiny little hatch in the back right where the card was....it popped right out and the new one went right in...this looks like doing surgery....too easy to fuck up

  • You have a very positive attitude! =D

    Very nice video. =D

  • 1:45 i found its easier to do with a credit card

  • LoL

  • I have not opened up the Aspire One. The chipset supports 2x1GB of 667MHz RAM. The other non-upgradeable RAM is soldered in. This RAM is 512MB at 533MHz limiting the Total RAM to 1024MB+512MB RAM at 533MHz.

Is it possible to desolder the RAM and insert the upgrade? Is there a slot for the RAM, or is it only soldered? If anyone has a closeup picture of the soldered RAM, I would like to see it. Is this too difficult to attempt, or is it possible?

  • does ddr2 667 work?

  • I was curious at what point does the A1 max out? I've already got a gig o' ram in there. Can it support 2 gigs?

  • I think it can handle 1.5.

  • The funny thing is, I was in the middle of doing this to my laptop, and then when you got to the part where you said "Uh-Oh!"....You scared me so bad!

    HA!

    Thank for the video buddy!

  • Thanks mate. Just did 512 RAM and 120 G hard disk model 60 minutes ago (NOT an SSD model). A few extra moves and precautions for this one:

    - also need 2 remove the wifi module from its socket.

    - need to unscrew the smaller board housing the mic and the phone sockets from the box as well, in order to be able to safely lift up the motherboard together with the hard drive.

PS. the memory i used was a 4200 (533). :) good luck! it's easier than it looks:)

  • This is important if you haven't got the SSD model :)

  • problem my xp lapto help

    watch my channel

  • What is the max ram I can fit in, namely would a 2Gb module work?

btw thanks for the info - after I lost my warranty card (shitty stuff, vehicle hijack included) I decided to disassemble the thing just to see what interesting things can I find inside, I made it almost to the point but lol, I didn't pull the mobo that time and thus never seen the RAM slot lol :D

  • I have a 1gig Averatec netbook w/no trapdoor. This vid is awesome! Now I can max out the ram, thanks crunchgear!

  • That is so much work just to upgrade some ram.

  • yeah it probably would have been easier if you just took off the small back panel i saw on the bottom

  • wait thats wat i was thinkin i wanna get one of these, and theres a tab at the bottom cant u add ram from there instead completely opening it and potentionally trashing it?

  • The panel on the bottom doesn't lead to the ram slot. Full disassembly is necessary to upgrade the ram. The area under the panel is empty.

  • nice!!

  • whats the maximum ram an acer one can have? if i buy one with 1gb ram, can i install another 1gb?

  • buy a ram with 2 gb and it will be 3gb on the acer acer already have 1gb so buy a 2gb and it would be 3gb total

  • Nope, wrong. It will only read as 1.5 GBs. The mobo on the AA1 is limited to 1.5 GBs due to the 512 MB DIMM soldered directly to the PCB. The DIMM slot itself supports up to a 1 GB module.

Worst case scenario is your AA1 fails to boot due to a larger than support DIMM size in its socket.

  • what ever i know im right cause i have plus i sold it fro 400 i have sold the only aa1 in the world able to run 3gb so with my skill i can probley make one run 64 bit if i tweek it a bit but belive what you want i have the facts

  • sorry bud, but tinkering like that and making the laptop read that much as far as i know its impossible, you have the facts but no proof of the facts,

  • Then it wasn't a first-generation AA1. You probably had one of the newer ones out (like one of the 11.6" ones). I still have my old AA1, so I know for a fact (as do others) that it will only recognize up to 1.5 GBs of RAM.

  • haha, ya imma buy one of these computers, and i want to add memory to the ram, so thanks for this easy step by step guide, and a laugh! your funny without trying.kudos.

  • Thanks for the guide. I had problems with the screws. Some are screwed really hard and almost impossible to open.

Be prepared for some real pain, especially if you use those small watchmaker-screwdrivers.

I used a gripper and brute force in cominbation with the screwdriver to get it open.

The keyboard is actually pretty easy to get off; and you just need one screwdriver. Just push those 3 brackets one by one back and the keyboard automatically snaps forward :)

  • easiest thing u can change is ram. specially in a laptop, Christ Almighty.

  • LOL, might it be easier to cut a hole in the bottom...

  • wifi screw would not come out with any screwdriver. wasted an hour on this.

  • Thank you!

  • What size plus head screwdriver do you use for unscrewing the underneath? I tried all of mine at home and I couldnt get a grip, theyre so damn small!

  • This is exactly why I didn't consider acer when researching the different netbook options. This is just stupid beyond words.

  • holy crap!

  • Hello, i just installed the RAM and i when i boot the laptop i get the error: no bootable device insert boot disc and press any key. WHY? can some one please help me.

  • DAMN! With the Asus eee pcs, you just remove 2 screws, and pop in the new module. With the Acer, you re-build the laptop.

  • lol.... 2.37, u could using a tweezer

  • Wow Love Acer, but after this get a Dell... only kidding, Acer just made this a mission impossible to upgrade!

  • WHY do you have to yell EVERY fifth WORD?

  • hahahahaha

  • Straight from Acer phone support (yes, I managed to get a live person):

"AA1 is not intended for user upgrade. However, there are no "Void Warranty" stickers on the inside to indicate if the unit was opened. As long as no noticeable physical damage can be found by upgrading the unit, then the warranty will still be intact"

I would suggest removing any upgrades before sending it in for a warranty claim though ^^

  • how to increase video memory ?????

  • Thanks!

I just upgraded mine, it was scary as hell but I succeded...

  • jeez.. i added 1gb of ram today to my acer aspire one.. when i took off the cover.. i was like.. WTF! haha so many chips

  • so easy ¬¬

  • Holy cow,

"Don't try this at home" Haha no kidding!

  • Wow there is a clear open spot to put a ram stick in LOL

  • The Way He Disconnected The Keybored Ribbon Made Me Cringe

    Theres No Way He'S " A+ Certified " What A Load Of CRAP !

  • @Blob38060 Why Did You Capitalize Every Word!?

  • Cool video. Just ordered an aspire one and am trying to decide if i have the balls for this lol.

  • I thought you could upgrade the ram by opening that small flap on the bottom of the acer aspire one? Is that true?

  • NOT TRUE, One other laptops yes, Not this one

  • No, thats to put a 3g modem into.

  • wow you're a colossal faggot

  • Damn! This is harder than brain surgery. You've got more balls than I do!

  • A+ Certified?

What a load of bollocks lol

  • "B-b-b-b-b-b-BAAAAALLS of STEEEEEEEL!!!!!"

  • wooow it must be a blast with more memory :D check out the HD video-promo I made with my aspire one at my videos or right here /watch?v=cZH-FYUg20Q

  • what is that little door on the bottom of the aspire one for

  • 3G.. I guess it is miniPCI slot, if so - anything can be installed there - bluetooth, wlan, etc.

  • i have an aspire one with 1 gb can i add 1 more to it so it wiil become 2gb of ram

  • i just purchased one of these and i had it about a week now. but recently it has been taking a long time to boot up and all of the stuff is really slow. all of the noises are occuring in a slow, staticy manner. If anyone kmows how to fix this id appreciate a reply.

  • im having the same problem

  • A+ to open the acer mini one, yeah right, you scratched the keyboard and the plastic part that holds the ribbon cable, but nice video after all, i have 2 mini acer and i upgraded the memory to 1.5 gigs os RAM

  • The ppl thats coming on this mans page critic king him on what to do. go fuck yourselfs hes here to help. Why don't you guys make a video on your own if you can do better. I can't stand ppl that think they are perfect.

  • I'm probably just a bit too chickenshit to try this lol.

  • my acers all ready have 1gb of ram and 120gb hard drive wilessinter net lan and windows xp

  • this video was good

    im bored on cam py

  • thanks for the tutorial before i couldnt figgure out how to crack the bitch open now i have 1.5 gigs of ram :)

  • mine already have 1gb of ram so i dont need to do this

  • Mine has 1gb also, but doesn't it support up to 2gb?

  • You can buy a 512mb ram card.

  • your thinking of video memory, not ram/memory.

  • very unproffesional approach to the video.

  • Balls Of Steel!

    FTW

    great video 5/5

  • I would have to say this video made me cringe

the way he took the keyboard off with Flathead precision screwdrivers is totally wrong

and then he pulled off the ribbon connector for the keyboard the wrong way as well he is lucky the plastic clips did not break

If you want to see a much more detailed video please check out my videos I have one of disassembly and one for reassembling

with schematic drawings/photo of where the screws go

  • O M G ebay ftw... I'd rather spend another $100 and not have to do this myself ha ha ha.

  • wow, that is beyond ridiculous that they'd make it that hard... they just lost a sale.

  • The really infuriating thing is they could simply have made a removable pannel at the bottom

  • If I put 2GB memory in the empty slot, he theoretically would have 2.5gb. The win xp will recognize 2GB memory (which is the limit) or the bios that limits the 1.5gb? I am in Brazil, around here do not have many people who understand the Acer Apire One

  • bios that limits the 1.5gb

  • question 1: does this voids your warranty

question 2: does this netbook use SATA or IDE

question 3: why the fuck did they not placed a plastic lid below the DDR slot to make life easier (it does have a lid around, but can´t do shit on there)

  • Good grief... This is a nice netbook, but dang... The Asus 1000h im looking at is much easier to upgrade the RAM and memory.

  • "if you had just a little bit of fun watching" remark gives you 5 stars and a favourite :) keep up the good work!

  • sorry man i aleardy have 1gb

  • Out of curiousity, was this aspire the Linux model that comes with 512mb? There was a rumor that it had memory soldered down.

  • Many Thanks for this useful video, I just finished upgrading my aspire one to 1gb of ram, not as hard as it looks lol.

  • 2GB PC2-5300 RAM sticks are available. Is it not possible to install one of these, boosting the ram to 2.5GB? Cheers

  • Acer Aspire One allows you to upgrade it only to 1.5 GB

  • oh my god

    Acer is sux !

how much cost for Aspire One can have a port expansion under there

  • it is definitely an annoyance, but this netbook is otherwise great.

  • Watch the video all through before starting, to see the correct way to release ribbon cables, not the way he releases the keyboard cable. He makes hard work of removing the keyboard too, one small screwdriver in the corner under the escape key, gentle upward pressure then work across the three clips with screwdriver no 2 and they will latch back. Beware tho' on mine there was a sticker on the back of the keyboard under the F11, F12 keys which had 'leaked' glue sticking the keyboard to the case.

  • No, it was fine. It didn't break. It was just the plastic part holding the cable down. I pulled it outward when I should have pulled it upward instead. It snapped right back on, though.

  • so did you actually break the keyboard cable?? didn't the connector pop off that bad boy???
