The F-15 at least is meant for air superiority and has been proven to be just that in international war games like Operation Red Flag. Also, the use of canards is controversial, the F-15 and F-16 lack canards and some say that is for the better as they can be a disadvantage in a dogfight. and btw, the F-15 has been reported to be the most solid aircraft of all, by many nations.

okay, correct me if wrong. the sequence of launches.

starts with the AWACS (air command center), the stratotanker, two B1 bombers, a B2 stealth bomber, a whole lot of F16s (the 'Red Force' which will assume the role of aggressors in the exercise), then its all the 'Blue Force', squadrons of F22s, F18/A Super Hornets, European Torandos, F18s, F22s, F18s, F16s, F35s and then finally the British Harriers.

the A10 is also launched, a pair F117s and a U2, and a whole lot of attack helicopters.

F22is basically a stealth f15 as f35 is a stealth f16 right??.

@livecave144 The F-22 is supposed to have more multi-mission capability than the A-D model F-15s, plus stealth abilities. The F-35 was supposed to replace F-16, F/A-18s, Harriers and maybe a couple others. Unfortunately there are only going to be 70-120 F-22s (1000 initially planned) and the F-35 was supposed to enter service in 2008, and there are currently only about a squadron's worth of test planes. Both projects are really unnecessary and a waste of money.

That sidewinder is most likely a Captive AIM-9. It is meant for air to air training. It cannot be fired but it still works like any missile, which is capable of locking onto enemy targets.

Kllsddd – yes u have a valid point regarding two-engines are better than 1; if ur not confident in ur aircrafts reliability, or its maintenance facilities. But, personally I liked the one engine in that it burns less fuel then a two engine. Now considering the size of Canada that means they would be able to stay out & go further on patrols before refueling & if needed can still be topped by tanker when situation calls for. Also, the F-35 has the censor suite of all censor suites;

Historically naval aviation has emphasized multiple engines for reliability in over-water ops.

Nowadays aircraft are just as likely to crash due to avionics or other systems, which swings the pendulum towards single engines due to being cheaper and simpler to maintain/purchase.

Cf. a cheaper single-engine and replacing the powerplant vs. a multi-engine w/complex maintenance.

@jasnallen This is a tactical exercise, not an air show. As far as I know you cant just walk on base without someone letting you on and escorting you to see the aircraft. You can go see the aircraft take off from off base but you will probably need some binoculars. The people you see are either military members, or government employees, or mambers of the press.
