Well, folks . . . Ruth recorded a version of this with the "Thad Jones--Mel Lewis Big Band" in the '70's . . . I've got the LP . . . AND---let's talk TRUTH here folks . . . she always stood SECOND in the shadow of Billie & Dinah . . . not her fault . . . it's no disgrace to lose to . . . THE BEST . . . Gary in Arizona . . . courtesy of Vic561.
The saxophonist is definitely Willis Jackson. The song was a big pop hit in the year 1952 (the year of this record) and there were many versions in both the pop and R&B categories. There was another great R&B version of this song by Wini Brown & the Boyfriends. Wini was a former singer with Lionel Hampton, while her Boyfriends were a group splintered from the Ravens by the late Warren Suttles.
That is more than likely her (then) husband Willis Jackson providing the sax -He plays sax on the flipside "5-10-15 Hours" and several of her other releases from this time period (late 51-early 52)-For you sax lovers Willis blows a wild sax break on Ruth's "Shine On" which was orginally a Tampa Red song under a different title
wowow, I plan to make a Lounge/Deep House with it!. Liked me very much, don't you know where can I get the Acapella? or the rights?. Anyway!, This is a great old track! Amazing I'd say! Thx for this!. It's got my evening quite relaxed
Because of how early this was recorded, there won't be an acapella to this. Atlantic was one of the first to do multi-track recording, but that wasn't until about 1954. If you were to somehow get a hold of the master tape, maybe there's an acapella practice. The problem is most of Atlantic's early master tapes were destroyed in the mid fifties.

You hit the nail on the head.. The flip is 5-10-15. I have this on 78 as well. Usuaully early Atlantics sound much better on 78s, but this is one of the few exceptions. The 45 isn't incredibly expensive, it's just very hard to find. This copy is about the cleanest I ever anticipate finding.
Not an easy record to find. This is a very early Atlantic 45. They were already in the 1000 series by 1953 so this could be from as early as 1952. I hope you do find one though. Glad you enjoyed it
Wow! So great. I remember Ruth Brown from the mid-1940's when I was in high school and the music was called 'rhythm and blues'. I seem to recall that Ruth recorded a favorite of mine called 'Tomorrow Night' but I can't seem to find it it anywhere by her; the version by Lavern Baker on Youtube is pretty good also, but done years later.
thank you so, so much for this

Brings back memories of a more simple, innocent and trusting time in my life. I'm crazy about the sax.

Who is on tenor?

Could possibly be Lee Allen.. He was doing Atlantic sessions since the early days, but I'm not sure

I have this somewhere but it's not as clean as this. I'm sure it's a 78 and the flip is 5-10-15... I've added it to my favorites!

I believe I have Ruth's version on 45. I also have a good version by a group called The Popular Five on the Enrica label.
