No version of pnp has EVER been faithful to the end of Austen's book.

Nothing about Mr. & Mrs Collins getting the heck out of Rosings because Lady Catherine is having a Tornado sized hissy fit. Nothing bout the dead beats Wickman & Lydia turn into. The betterment of Kitty through her distance from Lydia, and the reconsilation of Lady Catherine to Darcy. Even Miss Bingley has a change. someone should make a version showing Lizzy getting over on all of them, and becomg a great Lady.

The book is great about the ending. It goes into everyone. Lady Catherine, Miss Bingley, Mr. Collins, and goes on to describe what happens to Lydia & Wickman.

This version is different from the one, that was on TV in here, they cut out some parts (not only "american" ending).

In czech translation 1:05 Lizzy says that Darcy was madly in love with Jane. Translator must have been out of his mind. I am soo glad I can watch it in original.

That is the American ending. We, American audiences, always have to have "the couple" kiss at the end of a movie...so they made an alternate ending. But this is how the film is supposed to end.

after watching the 1995 BBC version, this one is 2nd best. Colin Firth does a remarkable Mr. Darcy! It is long but it sticks at its entirety with the book.

Although I'm not sure, I believe that the DVD uses the preferred ending and allows you to view the US ending as a "special feature". It's a cultural preference thing. For this type of movie, I prefer the British ending.

The US ending was controversial because it didn't say in Austen's book that they kissed. But I prefer the US ending because I mean, if you think about it, they must have kissed sometime. Kissing in book probably wasn't allowed back then. So, the US ending portrayed what Austen's publishers didn't allow.
