A great band backing them i pretty sure that this is the Blues Allstars. They were a three piece band.Lafayette Leake;Piano.Willie Dixon;Upright Bass.and Clifton James Drums.
Paul is not lead on many of the songs you list, from the original Peacock issues Robert Washington is lead on "Let's Pray", Joy, Joy, Joy" and "Ride This Train", Charles McLean is lead on "Motherless Children" and "Did You Stop To Pray This Morning".
"I'll Be So Glad" and "I Feel The Spirit" are shared leads with Robert Washington.
The recordings do not lie.
Paul was an outstanding vocalist and performer and I assume that group politics restricted his lead vocals.
Thanks Richard1011000, yes I do remember it being on a 45 when I was a teenager back then. They did perform it in Buffalo and everone loved it..I had the 45 back then, of course I have no clue when it vanished from me. Wish I had it today. It was a beautiful song.
Paul Lead "Let's Pray", It's a Pity, He's Sweet I know, I'll Be So Glad" "When I get In Glory", "Joy: "The Last Days"" The Lord will Make a Way"Why shoul I worry"Every time I feel the Spirit" Meet Her in The Sky"
"Motherless Children"Did you Stop to Pray this Morning" I have heard him lead "Ride this Gospel Train" This was the song that took Paris by storm when he performed this song.
One Gospelair that I need to mention is Melvin Pullins, he was with the group before he became ill. As I stated many times all the Gospelairs could sing and lead songs yet, Paul Arnold, Bob Washington were know as the Famous Lead singers of the Sensational Gospelairs of Dayton, Ohio.
Be blessed, Khadijah Ali Paul Arnold's oldest Daughter
I have the history and documentation that verifies that my father Paul Arnold was one of the famous Lead Singers of the Sensational Dayton Gospelairs, I also have the CD's of the music where he lead many songs, I also recognize and know and appreicate the fact that every man in that group could and did lead many songs. That is why they were known as the "Topp Quartet" of their time, every man could sing. Be blessed
The picture is Charles McLain, grown up, who was known for using the high falsetto spots in backgrounds. On the other, older vids, doing Joy and Rest For The Weary, he's on the left....and much younger. Great works!
Contrary to earlier statements this is the original 1961 version from Peacock 1832 / LP 106.
Paul Arnold was never the original lead and although was lead on the TV Gospel Time film did not actually record this song until 1979.
The group had 19 tracks issued on Peacock during the 1950's and Washington is lead on 14, Melvyn Boyd on 3 and Paul Arnold on 1, the remaining track (I'll Be So Glad) is a Washington/Arnold joint vocals.
Whilst with the group Washington has always been main lead.
This is not the first recording. Bob Washington is leading this version. Paul Arnold, the original lead singer of the Gospelaires, recorded this song first. They re-recorded it when Bob took over the lead.
I totally agree w/u little1shot. Untill I saw Paul Arnold on You Tube, I had no idea about Paul. Now that i've heard both versions, I must say that I enjoyed Bob Washington's version best. I enjoyed both versions, but enjoyed Bobs better, that's all.
Hey SmilingPessimist, thanx for this great post of the Gospleaires. I had the pleasure of seeing them perform this in the 60's. Would you have anyother great oldies by them? Again thanx.
In reply to you, derrickheard, and to scarlett24ca, please note that my Description specifies the source from which this upload comes-- an LP, not a CD; none of my uploads is from a CD. I do not know how you can get this song on CD or whether it might even be available. But you can download it from here, and the result should be of broadcast quality, if you wish to air it.

Has anyone ever heard the song, Never Grow Old,... that I think Charles also was the lead singer on?
3girlzz 2 years ago
It was issued on Peacock 3079 and does have Charles on lead, the reverse is "When I Get In Glory" which has Paul on lead.
Unfortunately it's part of the nine singles Peacock issued in the 60's which have not appeared on LP.
