  • the guilding light is now off the air - but i have to tell you, lenore kasdorf as rita was my favorite from that show. i loved the guilding light from about 1976 to 1981. those 5 years were the best with alan, roger, adam, bert bauer, evie, amanda and ben. and holly. those story lines were so believable and lenore was very fluid as rita stapleton bauer, she just flowed with the character. best of luck and best wishes to the cast of guilding light - and thank you for those early memories.

  • @billyralphweeden Supposedly they almost brought her back around 2002 or so and she was going to be Gus's mother (Alan as the father). Too bad it didn't happen.

  • @CarlD2 You wrote: "Too bad that didn't happen"

    I SECOND THAT!

It would've been great to see Lenore back as Rita....not to mention that the show could've revisited some rich history, here. (one of the things lacking during the latter days of GL, especially)

    Richard

  • Holly & Roger rape, Phillip's custody, Rita

& Eve, this was from the 1979-80 season which garnered GL best daytime drama

  • Those scenes with Eve and Rita were very good. Kate Wilkinson played their mother? She was John's and Michael's mother on AW in the 80s. I wish some footage was available of her on GL. Whatever happened to Viola (the mother)?

  • @CarlD2 yes, Kate Wilkinson was Rita and Eve's mother, Viola. Eve brought her to Springfield in 1976 (after Rita had already moved there), when she had a stroke, and Rita and Eve thought she'd get better care at Cedars. Ed helped her make a full recovery (that's how he and Rita first became close). She stayed in Springfield 'tll around the time Rita was pregnant, because I remember she talked Rita into keeping the baby (Rita wanted to have an abortion b/c she didn't know who the father was)..

  • .and then she returned to West Virginia at some point, but still made sporadic visits to Springfield. I think the last time she was shown was after Rita skipped town in 1981, and Ed called her to see if she'd heard from Rita.

  • @mthivier Thanks for your detailed answer! It's interesting that even though Rita had problems they gave her such a nice mother figure.

  • I use to love Rita and Eve. They were so believable as sisters. I keep hoping that someone will post the clip of when demented Georgene Grainger held them at gunpoint in their apartment laundry room. That was one of the most suspenseful things I've ever seen on GL.

  • I agree about Rita and Eve. And I would love to see the Georgene Grainger material, as well. Unfortunately it appears not a lot of the year 1978 (when the scene aired), from GL, was saved on vids. (Which is very unfortunate).

  • I know, it seems P&G and CBS didn't save a whole heck of a lot of the footage from those years. On a related note, I happened to see an old "Law & Order" rerun last night which featured a guest appearance by the lady who used to play Rita and Eve's mother. (Kate Wilkinson, I think her name was.) Funny seeing her after all those years and remembering exatly who she was.
