Taiwanese are waay more modern than the old-fashioned Chinese. (no ofence to Chinese ppl) We were greatly influenced by the Japanese after they took control. Even our food is a little Japanese-ish! China is quikly catching up to us, but they still have a long ways to go before becoming as 'modern' as Taiwan.

Also- you can think of the Chinese and Taiwanese ike America and England. The people broke free from their mainland and then became independent. Now they are different (although similar)
