I imagine using that particular laptop, it would take an extra 1000x. 1GB RAM, 1-point-something-GHz dual-core processor and a graphic card that makes the screen blush if you mention it by name.

I had an idea like this a few years back but the only difference to use existing satellite maps to do the same thing and use it to make a game where you could race on any road that Google had a satellite image of.

@XBLArmory I think there's a top-down zombie-shooter on Playstation Network by some guy who had the same idea. Using satellite maps you don't really get the right height of things. Also, take a top down picture of a building and you don't get any side textures. ;)

But imagine this in a air fight sim or something.. that'd be great!

It's not the technology of 3D mapping, it's that it's now available and that there are possibilities for its use that weren't here 10 years ago.
