  • @xTiger251 that's the uniform of the shuai jiao player. The sash wouldn't take all the abuse the belt does in a day to day practice.

  • Wow...just...Wow.

  • keep showing what you have an stick too it ! who cares what they say its just talk is shows what you can do and it good! and keep true arts alive, Look at it like this . the judo jacket why is it longer than the shuai jiao jacket ? simple cano the founder of judo modified it for his art it . and it has a different denention in the throws!

  • keep it mind most people now days are really stupid .Do to the fact they know nothing on martial history and how and why arts are created . Just about how hey can fight in a cage or MMA . which really is a half of a art . its very typical to get comments like you get but most are very not so brite at all . there are 5 element to making a art complete! If you look at the bubishi the chinese one then look at the japanese version given to japan . an then you will understand jj judo karate etc!

  • Judo and Silat guy here. love it!

  • Shuai Chiao -> 摔角或摔跤

  • Why do fools always comment on demonstration videos of a Martial Art just to tell us how useless it would be in a real fight? It would make sense if they did it in a video that tried to demonstrate "Self Defense" techniques using a Martial Art but I don't believe that is the case here.

  • @AnimexWarrior: If you want a quick overview of Shuai Jiao, take a quick look at Wikipedia; this will give you an overview. If you wanna go deeper into Shuai Jiao, there are many great training manuals available, some of which include "The Method of Chinese Wrestling" and "Chinese Fast Wrestling For Fighting: The Art of San Shou Kuai Jiao." These books are some of the best I've come across.

  • you have no Kime, and most of all no Qi. you look like a systema fighter

  • is Shuai Chiao, a Chinese version of judo ?

  • @mrjknight1977 Shuai Jiao was documented in court records nearly 3,200 years ago during the Zhou Dynasty, I believe. Judo came about much later, and is thought to be a derivative of Shuai Jiao.

  • @ultrablue72: Judo does in fact have its roots in Shuai Jiao. Jujitsu is directly descended from Shuai Jiao and Chin Na, and Judo is descended from Jujitsu. Hence, Judo can trace its roots directly to Shuai Jiao itself.

  • @mrjknight1977: Yes, you are correct. In fact, Judo has its roots in Shuai Jiao

  • Its not hard to defend when you always know what the other person is gonna throw. lets see him do it with a pissed of boxer throwing wild haymakers

  • @kungfukitty2010 I guess that's just the nature of any type of MA demo. Perhaps, you can appreciate the usefulness of Shaui Jiao by looking at how successful BJJ has had in dealing with those big punchers in MMA. A good Shuai Jiao wrestler is familiar with locks and holds, too. So, coupled with a bit of chin na (trapping/holding), he just might do well in MMA- only if you can convince one to break tradition, belief, & way of life and make the long trip to a foreign land to fight for glory.

  • @kungfukitty2010 I study Shuai Jiao myself and I have made quick work of many skilled boxers. I rush them, take them down, and lock them using Chin Na. Not to mention I study Sanda(Chinese kickboxing) and I can easily distract them as I go in for the kill.

  • very good techniques.

  • nice video thanks for posting... I wish you could replay some of the techniques in slow motion so i can see exactly how to execute the move though!

  • Well, you could easily look up a video of shuai jiao in a tournament style setting rather than viewing demonstrations. Just because you are seeing a demonstration against a compliant partner doesn't mean it's useless. There are many videos of boxing, BJJ against a compliant partner on youtube are you going to comment on every single one saying it's useless? When I attend my BJJ class we always start out learning against a compliant partner before we start rolling.

  • @lvshaolin BJJ = the art of groin exposure. i advise you just stick with shuai jiao.

  • @Brazilianjj

it's called a demonstration smart guy. They're supposed to go 1/4 speed in order to make it easy for you to see the techniques.

Obviously they wouldn't expect real life opponents to be going 1/4 speed.

  • this is the way of training, the other way is whitout learning and the "uke" very hurt.

I agree, this is not exactly the same speed and form of a real fight but you know other way to training?

    saludos!

  • Epic.

  • q weena wn!

  • 很精彩

  • hey dude.may i ask u question?does shuai jiao teaches ground fighting or ways to defend against it?coz im wondering if it ll work in mma as a ground thing like wrestling n BJJ.

  • Afaik it´s only stand up.

  • neato

  • this is shaolin kung fu or just kung fu?

  • Shuai Jiao is the oldest of kung fu styles. It preceeds The founding of the shaolin temple.

  • neither. this is an older form, wrestling actually

  • It's called Shuai Chiao. I don't know if this even existed before Bodhidarma even visited China. Looks almost like Judo, but with no sacrificial throws (falling throws) from what I just learned.

  • bodhidarmas mostly a myth, read up a little more on facts, martial arts were everywhere in china b4 bodhidharma was ever said to come to china. and shuai chaio is a well documented martial arts dating back to the qin dynasty it existed way b4 there was shaolin.

  • 你这个东西太花哨。 你并没有中国式摔跤的精华

  • can i ask you a question what is it with people teaching "shaolin kung fu or kung fu in general " and wearing japanese gi's?

  • Actually these are not gi's the shuai jiao jackets are custom made by Master David Lin in Atlanta. The jackets made in China are red and blue and reversible but are costly. If you look closely, the jackets do not fold over like the japanese style, also they are short sleeve, and the waist is much higher. in Mongolia, they wear armbands and thong like shorts. Did you get a chance to see the traditional videos on my page. Please look if you really want to see traditional kung fu.

  • sorryabout that but when i saw nothin but chest i was like here we go again u got some good video liket the tiger crane style n that uniform inthat video looks like the ones most ppl who practice hung gar wear but much respect man

  • They could be of a different personal tradition. The Japanese do it I believe. Shorinji Kenpo is like Shaolin karate in a sense.

  • i understand i havent seen to many chinese style do it depending on where theyre from but its cool doe as long as their martial art traditional

  • AWESOME

  • very good demo

i've always liked Shuai Chiao, this go well with ground fighting training.

  • Very nice, thank you for sharing.

  • 5 stars!

  • Very good stuff. Thank you.

  • He's an awesome fighter!

  • My mom knows the guy on the left in real life! his name is Billy

  • make it more realistic with the feet blocking and tripping off balance, it doesnt make sense how you can tap a persons feet that lightly to throw them off balance.

  • Watch again and try to remember these few basic things. These are just some of the simplest lessons and concepts that I've picked up along the way.

    Good Luck in your training.

  • I don't want to leave out using the legs and feet. That is the extra component to the technique that you can say in certain situations, would seal the deal or make it more destructive at your discretion.

  • ones who don't "Loose"

. I can only conclude you are not that experienced. Or do not have much training in the concept of understanding Balanced and Unbalanced or Stability and Instability.

I'm trying to explain it as simple as I can, it's like this, either you get it or you don't. The

  • The key when tripping like that is to have your own foot follow the same angle as the person you are trying to throw. It takes very little effort because the leg naturally wants to go that way.

These are really good techniques, performed well.

  • . If you off balance a

person, for example, by pulling or pushing at the top portion of his or her body in the process disrupting their Stability (very important) how much more energy is required to actually take them down. You misunderstand what you see.

  • Have you ever walked down the street and tripped over maybe an uneven portion of the sidewalk or even a little rock. Most people will understand what I am talking about when I say how much energy did the curb or rock use to make you trip up? Here's a little lesson for you wrapped in a question maybe you can answer it yourself.

  • i agree. most demostrations are like dances, everyone knows their moves and performs. They rarely show demos where the person gives resistence. they basically jump down when their thrown.

  • Wow, you're really good. I especially like the throw at about 2:00. My current favorite throw is similar to it.

I am actually a current student of Sifu Knight. He's pretty awesome.

  • This is just too cool. I'm a practitioner of Tai Chi Praying Mantis, Jung Gar, and Wing Chun Kung Fu and even recently started Judo in my high school.

Judo and shuai chiao look so similar but obviously, the Chinese wrestling style is much older. I'd like to learn this!

  • Sorry, I meant Hung Gar, not Jung Gar lol

  • Is this Gene Chicoine Certified?

  • The certification comes from

    Alexander Knight

  • Was that a joke or are you really asking that?

  • kind of off-topic question but what brand is that mat and how much for it? I need a mat like that to practice on.

  • century, kind of costly at nearly $400 per mat

  • Shuai Chiao looks more or less like Greek, Roman, and Medieval Wrestling. So cool!!

  • Nicely done quick singles demo! Do you mind letting me know who your instructor is (was)? Guestimating your age you are about 5-10 years younger than I am, but we may have run in some of the same circles nationally, depending on what group you were in when GM Chang died (assuming you were in an American organization at the time). I have a small bit in one of the videos you have posted on your site from about 25 years ago! :)

    -Sifu Kirk Woller

  • Sifu Alexander Knight

  • Don't think I know him. Any lineage info you can provide (his teacher, organization, etc.) would help me place how SC is being sucessfully spread. Being a very demanding style and requiring good foundational work, especially if you add groundwork, stick and knife, and a complementary striking style (such as Mantis, Longfist, Boxing), it is often not too easy to find large numbers of good students. I would be interested in sharing offline your experiences in LV with your school. Thanks!

  • shuai jiao (kuai jiao) belongs to my favorite martial arts alongside wing chun kuen, kali and baji. excellent clip.

  • To Aikidojones - As a 20+ year practioner of Shuai Chiao and instructor since 1989, I can assure you that Shuai Chiao is quite as affective with larger opponents as smaller. My largest student stood 6'7" at a whopping 285, at 5'7" 185lbs I could easily execute throws with him just as affectively as with smaller lighter students. Shuai Chiao broken down has alot to do with body mechanics and physics and the affective application thereof.

  • alot of these throws are similar if not exact to what I use in the style of Kung Fu that I study. About the falling, it appears to the obvious observer that this is a demonstration. Of real life application. The one doing the falling is probably falling in a similar way an attacker would in the street.

  • Did your teacher ever teach you how to fall? Before you step on a mat to play take the time to learn how to fall correctly. Shuai Chiao has 3 basic falls are very different from other styles.

  • Unless, you are the type that spends more time on your falls for one reason or the other. We do warm up with falling, rolling and all that cool stuff. And I'm not saying that falling is not important, but I like to apply a big portion of my training to the throwing aspect of the style. I plan on staying on my feet as much as possible.

    Thank you.

  • If you don't quite understand what you are seeing being demonstrated then you should not make comment about what is being demonstrated, but rather, ask questions about the applications being shown. That way you can understand before you comment.

  • You can't be serious. He is showing applications of throwing with this scenario in mind "being attacked by someone on the street". They were not doing class training on particular moves where they practice on each other. He was demonstrating being attacked and applying throws. Not worrying about how the attacker fell. It's called reality or as close as you can get to showing this type of scenario. I assure you that the student being thrown knows how to fall.

  • Wow! I did it again. Start from the 3rd portion of my comment, then read upward.

    Sorry!

  • Unsolicited negative comments say so much more about the person making the comments than about what's happening in the video itself. My students would never do that.

  • Wasn't Shuai Jiao practiced directly with Chin-Na in order to secure an opponent after the takedown?

  • they can be praticed singally or together. obviously more effective together, however each style has certain techniques that would not require a throw, or a joint lock/break to be effective.

  • WOW!

To read the comments below in order, start right above akidojones comment and read up. Sorry, had to break up my book. :-/

  • (Continued)We also do competition style sparring to answer your inquiry on seeing him take someone in his same weight class. I can tell you from experience, Sifu Billy is just as affective and skillful in sport as he is in street techniques.

If you might be interested in seeing or experiencing Shuai Chiao, Come on down.

Thank you for your comments. We appreciate the feed back.

  • always nice to invite Aikido people to experience Shuaijiao :-)

  • (Continued)At Las Vegas Kung Fu Academy we train in a wide variety of Shuai Chiao Techniques (sport n street techniques) Not to mention the traditional arts we incorporate to affectively perform throws in a more self defense scenario

  • To aikidojones,I am a student under Sifu Billy,I assure you he is very skilled in his arts.Your description of Sifu Billy's throwing is right on.He is obviously showing the self defense aspect of Shuai Chiao not the Sport, What you're asking would be a different side of Shuai Chiao.

  • His throws all look very well-rooted, smooth, and skillful. I would like to see him doing some of the same things against a larger and more resistant opponent who knows what he's going to do (say, another Shuai Jiao practitioner in his same weight class) to see how he sets some of these throws up when the opponent isn't committed to an attack as in these examples. Great clip! YouTube needs more good Shuai Jiao like this.
