“Visual memory, your mental storehouse of picture, it bigger and better than scientists thought.”
I think in realty It’s quite poor, to understand what I mean, try showing pictures of objects that do not have a dictionary word to describe them, with strange shapes, and strange colors.
You will find the results quite deluding, because you take away the capabilities of the person to store pictures in their descriptive manner using name, shape associations, and defined color recognition.
Many experts say that the photographic memory is nonsense, if you don't concentrate on every detail, only the descriptive small patterns are kept in your memory, and you need to acquire and take to the subconscious a large variety of words to describe an object so it can be efficient and this takes years.
You can do more research on this by checking out all the best memory experts, you will find that they all use their own codified story method to memorize more accurately.
Alright... I can actually memorize dozens and once even over a hundred numbers in about two minutes using techniques. But when it comes to pure visual memory, I couldn't get past six colors on the above test. AND this is meant for kids! I can do it all of course, if I verbalize or use techniques... so does this mean that my visual memory is horrible? How do I improve it? Thanks
@Urza26 said: "so does this mean that my visual memory is horrible? How do I improve it? Thanks"
For all I know, we do not have a good visual memory, pictures are recorded in a descriptive manner, we need to pay attention for every detail with attention to memorize them.
That is why we can hardly remember anything from when we are very young, the images fade away quite easily, and we don't have the capabilities on how to reconstruct them because our vocabulary is still lacking,
@Urza26 Different minds work differently, i can't remember someones name even if i have heard of it like 25 times. Played trough the entire Medal of Honor campaign and still can't remember the names of a characters, never mind they constantly were on the screen and people constantly called up these names.
part-2but i myself could remember many things and events of my whole life even as a baby i remember a part where my mother held me in her arms and alking to my father then walking out of the house down the stairs to the car and i remeber my first birthday i was on top of a table next to the cake and my father had a bag of cheese doddles not chips while he was puring it on a big metal plate

part 1-...people tend to forget things due to that most things they do and think its not importan do not pay enough attention like when you when you come home tired from work and just wan to lay down i myself throw the keys anywhere or even on the floor due to that my brain was being covered by my hunger to lay on my sofa and watch tv channels of bet, tupac fave music videos ,dave chappel shows and then when i wan tto leave the house i wont have no memory of where i put the keys..(continue)
i can't believe they had to do an experiment to figure that out, we use our visual memory all the time, we rely on vision the most. Plus its obvious if you pat attention to where you put your stuff, you will remember but we all have to many things on our minds, to pay attention to everything we do.

Actually, there is not. Every time you see an item, lets say an apple, your eyes send signals to your brain right? But the reason that you know its an apple is because the item "apple" is stored in your memory bank! The items you see are compared to thing you have already seen to determine what it is. this is why you can still recognize objects when its relly dark. even though you may only see the silhouette of an object, your memory bank makes it possible to recognize it :)
if they would show me those pictrues for five hours i would rember like 5xD but if they would ask me if i saw a donut or if i saw this and if i saw that... i would remember all i would rember every picture i saw...btw... 1:23 haha xD
Wow how did she come up with that, she's a genius next to Einstein I may add. Who would have thought! PAYING ATTENTION Han! She need to get back on the street and provide some service that might actually wroth something to some.
@Mickorec i also came up of this method of paying attention to the thing that you do even if your frustrated with something eles and that something eles will blind you of what you could forget its hard to keep up it normaly natural imagen hearing a evil bad news you might throw your tv's remote control anywhere in the living room while running out to the streets then probably the next day you go crazy trying to find it
Bigger is better. Growth is progress. Multiply and fill the land, said Dennis Hopper's character to the illiterate refugees aboard the house converted oil tanker, whose oil supply was running out, in Waterworld.
If the people were tested right away, of course it's going to be easier for them to rememeber.
If they let the person carry on with their day, going to work or whatever, and come back in 8 hours to be tested....I'm sure people whould not do as well.
I think it is impressive at 90%, but I also think it's people's daily routines of work or whatever that's a distraction that will cause people to forget stuff.
Test them in a weeks time and see how much they'll remember. We forget simple things because most simple things only need to be stored in the short term memory. What did you have for your dinner on the 15th of March?
I think it depends on whether or not it was necessary for survival. I kill a chicken for dinner because I'm hungry and I want a bit of bite to satisfy me but when vegetable lasagne would've sufficed. March 15th? Same auld arguement; the spirit versus the savage??! and how much material progress is enough for me ..
