  • @suburbandrudgery He quit The Marines apparently so as a result he couldn`t wear it. I don`t think he stayed in long enough to have acquired any Medals or anything. That`s my personal opinion.

  • @silasha I said that Andrew and Edward were glad to look nothing like Charles. And that they were likely quite happy about that (meaning that Charles is a rather odd looking individual - where Andrew and Edward look more presentable)

  • met prince edward when i was in hospital when diana was in wigan to open the shopping center. I 'm glad i met the prince as i was able to have a converstaion with him. He was very charming and the unfortunate thing was that he aske me was was the hospital food good? but at the time I was unable to eat it. As i had an operation on my muscles in my throat. But it was very exciting

  • I think I'll never be able to understand why Prince Edward was just named an Earl instead of a Duke... According to the tradition, Sovereings' sons (except for the Prince of Wales) are supposed to be dukes

  • Actually, HRH Prince Charles is the Duke of Cornwall, though he is better known as Prince of Wales. Otherwise, yes, British royal traditions are often confusing.

  • Edward was made an Earl with the understanding that he will eventually be created Duke of Edinburgh, the title his father holds now.

  • I read that he & Sophie wanted it that way to escape media interest when they had kids. Legally though their children are Princess Louise & Prince James & they can use those titles when they're older if they wish.

    Edward was styled Earl of Wessex because, after so many divorces and "scandals" within the royal family, they thought, it would be better not to be too pompous! Simple as that! There is no such thing as a Duke of Wessex! Once, in anglosaxon times, there were Kings of Wessex, but now, the earldom of Wessex is a modern royal creation! And why not?

  • I believe at the time they wanted a much more low key wedding than either Prince Charles or Prince Andrew. They didn't have all the pomp.
