Good to stumble upon Lalita ji. There were so many interesting Ads in those times of which one I fondly remember the Sil Ad where Kunal Vijaykar acts like a kid when he discovers his lunch was stolen….LOL … man that was funny. The other one that’s fresh in my mind is the Liril Ad. The ad was all about waterfalls, abundant water and the girl splashing about in total abandon singing “la…la la la laaa.”

Basically Hindustan Lever Ltd was trying to take on Nirma. Nirma and Hippoline were cheaper and hence all the explanation to justify the higher cost of Surf. "It may be expensive but you need less of it to get the same cleanliness. " Imagine how much they would have priced their products at if not for local competition?

it can becasue of 2 reasons:

1) Surf is less dense than Nirma (hence same weight occupies less volume)

2)It could be a figurative statement- surf will last more than nirma and hence the time it will take to consume both will be the same.

@umeshway I Kg of cheap powder is just printed as 1 kg but its not such in reality. The volume is less inside the packet. On the other hand Surf being reputated company has the exact amount as it is written. Moreover the 1/2 kg surf has the same number of wash loads which the 1 kg cheap powder has. But know a days Amway is ruling the market in your country with their world class products. You can use thier products to keep environment clean.

arre bhai sahab...aap bhi kha gaye na dhoka. The bottle on the left contains one KG of other powder, while the same volume is occupied by HALF KG of surf.

=>1/2 Kg surf is equivalent to 1 Kg of others

this ad reminds me of old days... so feels good... but one should not underestimate the "elementary geometry". the smart move would have been using 1/2 size of bottle itself for surf!
