How would you plug one of these into a computer? It seems like theres no MIDI in/out but would i be able to plug it into my audio interface and record audio directly into a DAW? I really want to get one of these b/c they're so cheap and so facking cool.
"The monotron DELAY even reproduces the pitch changes that occur when you vary the delay time, just as though you were using an analog tape echo." So it uses a digital delay?
@Oweng40000 Not necessarily. There are different types of analog delays, but a portable type probably wouldn't be able to have such lengthy delays. Oh well. I'm still excited for mine to arrive in the mail whether it's an analog delay or not. Maybe I'll even mod mine to accept MIDI.
i'm worried about that big hiss! is it going to be usable on super clean digital recordings? at 10 seconds you can hear the hiss change when the feedback knob gets turned up.
To the guy that commented on my comment: I agree with you if you want to make electronic music, however, I do not. I plan on making rock and jazz music. I would use this as an fx to give me songs a more space like atmosphere. I do not plan on sampling and thing.
I could use one of these for a fx, since I don't see any musical creativity being in use with one, such as playing chords or soloing. I see this as more of a cheep fx synth for post-production.
@numanuma20 Not much of a producer if you dont sample....Sample the hell out of the sounds you get from that on top of use that tiny little thing for a live intro no one will forget...no musical aspects...dude you clearly have no musical imagination......You can blam my belligerence on the beer I am drinking or just admit I am right LOL.
Hey come one, you're the one who starts making sour remarks about this charming little thing. I'm the one who's actually happy with it, see?
Still - if a professional musician tells me in a professional way that there is this professional piece of equipment worth checking out, I will certainly do so :-)
But please don't tell me I can't use this. I have a monotron (the first type), built that one into a guitar (feeding 1 of 2 pickups through the VCF). Works for me. Professionally! :-)
Looks like I definitely want one. Can you make the delay unit create the feedback/oscillation thingie that you van with old analogue delays? I mean when the echo comes back just a little louder than the original, and the echo of that echo is just a little louder again? I remember a (now broken) delay unit that could unleash sheer terror that way... some danelectro units can do it, I heard, but no luck so far in finding one.
What is this good for? I can do this and much much more with any synth with built in effect. Sometime I just wonder what korg is doing. Too many toys and not enought professional instrument these days. Pretty soon they will be selling Korg stuff at Toy's are Us.
@Bietel WOW, Someone did not take there happy pill today. Professional musicians need professional equipment not toys. This product is marketed for a certain type of person and is too limited for professional use. Save your money for a Dave Smith Tempest, this is professional equipment with endless possabilities.
So I checked out the Tempest. Indeed, it's an impressive machine. Certainly - it can do a lot of things a Monotron can't. It's bigger, much more sturdy I suppose, and it has much more controls you can tweak and fool around with. But, you see, it can simply do a lot of things I don't need; it's a truly great drum machine and sequencer, and it takes off from there - but I don't need all that... the Tempest, too, is indeed marketed for a certain type of person, I guess!
THAT IS FUCKING MENTAL

@cfiore88 In that small of box of course it uses a digital delay. If it had analog delay, it would be huge.

@tonefunkdef Well, that's just the feedback feedback-ing the initially quiet noise. You can run it through a gate compressor if it's required.

@tonefunkdef
If the hiss isn´t worse than the original monotron´s, there´s nothing to worry about.
the monotron is perfectly usable alongside other source material :))

@mattsynth So? If Korg stuff being sold by Toys'r'Us means they get even cheaper than this: fine.
If that means kids will learn to make music wit it: cool.
If musicians want to create these sounds without having to buy big synths, they'll say: thanks Korg.
And if you don't need them, I have a very good option for you: don't buy them.
Or do you have a problem with the fact that now just anyone can make these great sounds? Cos I don't!
