Excellent song. Brings back memories of great times!. Many a Saturday night at the cottage listening to a group introduced to me by a friend..Re-Flex. Thanks for posting
@wabbitt124 I think I recall a reference to 'Hitline' in the written materials included with box set, but I'd have to go back and look through it to be sure. (There's a lot of material, there. It's also on the CONNECT website.). Or, I'll just ask one of the guys.... :)
Just letting everyone on YouTube know that the Re-Flex Connect site was launched today and the 'Re-Fuse' CD box set and other merchandise are now available! Anyone interested in more info please PM me and I'll give you the site's URL. Cheers!
Great song, Gran cancion. Un grupo sub estimado, an underated band, todo el disco es bueno, all the songs of the album are awesome, i bought the cassette in 1985, yo compre el cassette en 1985

Короче,пацаны, это кайф. В композах Re-flex поколение,наше поколение. СНовым годом всех! Спасибо за видео,это бомба. А группа просто супер,звукарь современный и нестареющий!!! Альбом раритет!!!
That's awesome that you are European and experienced New Wave bands in Europe in the '80s! I'm American and I loved Europe's musical invasion of the United States back then!
This song is unbelievably catchy! I have the old vinyl, but haven't been playing it for years. And that bass player.... Mark King had competition ;-) (please don't smack me for saying that)
I caught that, too! I thought maybe it was just a flub the first time, at about 01:55. But he does it again, exactly the same way, later in the song, at about 02:45. Don't know what that's all about, but I'm rather curious, myself. Next time I talk to Baxter, I'll try to remember to have him look at this video and see if he'd be willing to "share". :) ...
(...continued) Actually, the whole video is just a hoot. It's a lot of fun to watch, for sure. The guys look like they're having a great time, hamming it up, even appear to be trying not to laugh a couple of times. To me, it seems as though maybe something is going on off-camera that's distracting them -- especially Baxter (perhaps that would explain the "alternate" lyrics) -- or maybe somebody's egging them on....
(...continued) Example: Watch Baxter's face as he's singing "and you can choose it" (about 00:13). You can see something off-camera briefly catches his eye, and right after, he becomes a bit more animated in his performance. Then, when it cuts to Nigel, he's smirking hugely. Makes you wonder.... :)
I am a self-confessed synth geek, and the Politics of Dancing LP pretty much blew my mind when it first came out. (Yes, I still have it).
I still occasionally play in an 80's tribute band here in Adelaide, (since about '93), and one of our showcase tunes was "Politics". (The full version). I pulled out all stops with my Emax HD, and Kurzweill K2000.
I reckon I spent about 20 hours sequencing/ programming, and pretty much recreated Fishman's sounds on that track to a "T".
Re-Flex wrote and recorded A LOT of material aside from "Politics", 3 albums of which will be on the CD set., thank gods! :D There's one album of material preceding "Politics", called "Movement of the Action Fraction", and two following, "Humanication" and "Jamming the Broadcast". The last word I got from the guys is the set will be 6 full discs, including their single releases. There will also be a video for a previously unreleased single from "Action Fraction" called "Mindless Dancing".
Yes, I will let you know what, if anything, I find out about the video. As I said, I'm curious, as well. There's obviously *something* amusing going on behind the scenes. :)
Really great quality copy, BTW. Probably the best I've seen of just about any Re-Flex vid posted so far. There's no discernible signal degradation, and in the HQ mode, the video is incredibly clear, as is the audio. And this was transferred from VHS?!?! (Must have been using a high-end deck.)
So, Baxter called earlier tonight and we watched the video over the phone, and he cleared up the whole "my turn" thing. It was what I'd initially thought... a f--kup with the lyrics. A couple of times. LOL! Hey, it happens, right? (I think maybe we can let him off.) :) He was actually quite good-natured about it all, and the more we watched the video, the more we laughed! It was a real kick. He said there was obviously a lot going on beyond the cameras, but he couldn't recall anything specific.
[...continued] He also seemed to think this was actually shot towards the end of '84, just after they'd finished their world tour with The Police, and they'd grown accustoming to performing as if they were on stage at a large venue. That's why everybody's a bit more animated. And the fact that they were all in high spirits. It shows. :)
My musical tastes run the gamut, so I can find something to enjoy in nearly every genre. Re-Flex's signature pop synth / rock guitar combo has always appealed to me, as does the enthusiasm & attitude they instill in their music -- plainly obvious in this video! -- & not least of all, the energy & intensity of Baxter's vocals. When I first heard "Politics", I was instantly taken, & when I bought the single & then played the B-side, "Flex It" here in the U.S., I knew I was onto something special.
@RettroDood ...you aren't int the Adelaide retro band "New Romantics"" by any chance?? Seen them many times in Adelaide are always delieved a awesome show :) Agree with you about the Politics of Dancing LP...I have it on vinyl and converted it to MP3. Amazing album!!
I've been in phone / e-mail contact with Baxter for about a year and, amongst other things, he's been kind enough to keep me updated on the status of the upcoming Re-Flex CD box set, which I am VERY EAGERLY awaiting. I've also been in e-mail contact with Paul and Nigel, to lesser degrees.
Baxter will likely see these comments if / when he visits, so go on and say 'Hi". :)
LOL... yes, Paul has some "moves" doesn't he!!? ;)
Great news about the box set. Nice work on Myspace, BTW. Yes I had one of the first high end domestic VCRs with linear stereo audio (pre-hifi). Long gone, but the machine I use to transfer isn't bad. I align the audio head to the tape, to get the best top-end. Being an audio engineer, I also do a bit of de-noising and enhancement. The capture card is good, and I do my own FLV conversion prior to upload, at good quality. Occasional black-outs due to sync issues though. haven't sorted it yet.
Yes, I'm looking forward to some "new" Re-Flex music. Glad you like the MySpace; it's always a work in progress, but the guys have been happy with it (so far), so... I'm happy! :) I'm aiming to network with as many people as possible so the news gets out about the CDs. Plus, I enjoying chatting with other fans who think as highly of the band as I do and are not content to settle for just one album from them!
Re: your video sync trouble ... sounds like you may need a time-base corrector.
I love this band!!!. I was lucky to find two tapes at a used record store in Uptown - Minneapolis

It's a shame the subsequent albums (were there three more?) never saw the light of day.
However, I have had a sneak peek of "Humanication", and yeah verily it IS GOOD!
