Liettuva was a source of inspiration for the baltic nations during the russian rule. (80% own people). My image is that the Lithuanian streets are "Lithuanian".

Whether or not the Baltic Way sped up the independence of these three states from the Soviet Union, it is one of the rawest examples of humanity there is. When this many people unite for the same cause, anything can happen. It's too bad that the present state of the world is filled with greed and complacency. Congratulations to you all!

actually, if you read about the aftermath and the soviet reactions, you would realise this really did help the cause of the baltic states. It also got attention from the president of the USA and the chancellor of western germany, who both put more pressure on the soviets.

And the protest helped the baltic states ask for more than they ever could have, and put international pressure on the soviet union, which lead to the first elections, which lead to lithuania being able to confidently declare independance (and being the first FSR to do so)
