Hey folks just letting you know that I worked at Sears and today was my last working day but Sunday April 3rd will be the last store closing date! I just found out today while clocking out that they are REOPENING Rolling Acres Mall so that EVERYONE can go back in the mall one last time DURING Sunday's Sears closing! They are only doing it ONCE and on THAT DAY ONLY!!!
You know, when ya think about it, it's kinda screwed up that the owners of the mall didn't even have the decency to cut the lights. How long exactly was the mall closed before the power went out?
Go to the JCPenny outlet center after dark, proceed to the 2nd floor, and peek through the barricaded glass door into the unlit 2-story atrium with the glass elevator...... It's something you cannot unsee.
Hey man... this was a great video you took, along with the lower level video. I've got a dumb question though... do you by any chance remember who was singing that song that was playing over the intercom and what the name of it was?
It was offered for auction in May, but got no bidders. There's a tax lein on the property and I think the light company has a lein on it as well for several thousand dollars of unpaid utility bills. So, for now, it just sit s there locked up tight and abandoned.
The mall closed in the late afternoon on Oct. 31, 2008 when the utility turned off the lights for non-payment. If ther's a video of people in the mall, it had to have been shot before then.
Thanks for answering my questions.I'll go back and view the old tapes of the mall and will see that it was filmed a few years ago.Are there any malls nearby? Most old malls are closed coz a megamall a few miles away opens up or the old mall is in a older neighborhood.
@almiragulch Easy for you to say good riddance. Did you grow up there? Did you spend all your time as a teenager there? To some of us there are fond memories associated with Rolling Acres. It was a great place back in the day.
The empty space was Subway. After they shut down, they tore out thier fixtures and counter. The place to the left of that was Eli's Grille. Apparently Eli held on and stayed in buisness until the very end.

The music is playing because, as I said in the description, this was shot just BEFORE the power was turned off.

I don;'t get why music is playing. I thought the mall shut down power.

That's what I'm expecting... it will sit for quite a while. After all, many other empty retail places on Romig haven't gone anywhere...

I think the mall was bulldozed down a few mos ago.

So you can still freely go in the mall? I thought it closed for good.

So the mall's power hasn't been shut off yet? Could you go back to the mall and walk fully around the upper and lower lwvels before it does happen?
IAmNotAFunguy 3 years ago
According to labelscar, he tried to get an upper level shot but I guess his camera died upon saving it, which was unfortunate.

Nope, the mall closed up for good a short time after I shot this. Nobody's getting in there now!
