Its weird that you mentioned the hammock movement in bed feeling because when you mentioned it i remembered when i was younger somewhere between ages 5 to 7 maybe i cant remember when but i recall making my bed move like a hammock. Very cool!
We see this as separation of mind and brain. Neurologist will say it's happening bc of the brain. Not that it can't be done, you just have to have a brain to have it happen. The real question is does consciousness survive if the brain is not functioning. I know of one NDE that points to this bc of a brain operation where the heart was functioning but the brain was not. Yet this woman knew things she couldn't have known being brain dead at the time.
The monk is correct when he states that astral projection cannot bring one happiness or peace but it certainly can be used as a tool for gaining higher knowledge, wisdom and a better understanding of the self and the true expansiveness and richness of the cosmos and our multidimensional natures and capabilities.
Sound's like you might have figured out how Deja Vu works to. Maybe when we sleep we astrally project subconsciously, see the probability of some future event. The information is stored subconsciously, and it can be days, weeks or years later. The event happens while we are awake, and we get a feeling that we've done or experienced that event before.
@Slipnotes I never thought of it either until I heard his testimony. I'm now of the opinion that our dreams are also us astral traveling through probabilities and alternate universe's where our lives have taken a totally different spin. Where we get to see the results of some of our subconscious desires or fears. I've always noticed that when I'm totally aware that I'm dreaming, I seem to be viewing from a floating position. I have 2 force myself back into my body 3 get back 2 this reality.
The Buddha learned the 4 noble truths through Astral Projection. He sat under the tree and "meditated" but then something happened and he was able to see his past lives. What happened? He Astral Projected and his consciousness entered what is known as the Akashic Records. It is not an actual physical place but rather a frequency that permeates in the Astral planes. If you focus your mind into receiving this you may not even have to leave your body to view your past lives.
@MeddyNYC Thats an old theory from centuries ago. The "soul' doesn't leave the body. (Actually there is no soul in Buddhism anyway). A perfect energy copy of you is created. The original copy is safe in the physical body. This is actually the same view as in Vajrayana, so the West is finally catching up.
The vibrations, heart racing and other "dying" sensations are merely the chakras activating to provide energy for the astral double.
@Thelosttraveller1 Yes really. I have done it. It was a personal gain. I never expected you to believe it. I was trying to awaken you to the fact that you could do this as well. If you believe it is not possible you will not be able to do it. You don't know me. What I said is true. To judge and assume is the real bullshit.
@Anon371 No entity or Being can possess a physical body, while one is astral projecting because only a fractal of one's consciousness shifts focus upon this experience. Also, for one to control a physical body, they must match the vibratory frequency of the host. We spend a lifetime learning to control and match the frequency of our physical body, so how do we suppose that a demon can just instantaneously come in and take over?
@Anon371 However, possessions can occur if or when an entity matches the vibration of the mind of the person who has fully merged with their dense physical form. Hence, if one is very negative, fearful, hateful, wicked and empathetic - they run a risk of being mind-controlled, possessed or MANipulated via their minds and this can occur with or without astral projection being in the equasion.
I tried your childhood method of relaxing meditation. I fell to sleep and missed my classes this morning. I guess it worked, with unexpected side-effects.

Didn't Buddha astral project to Mahabrahma etc.?
In fact the divya caksus in the fourth jhana is crucial to becoming the superior type of arhat.
I think this guy doesn't know what he's talking about.

It seems to me that there are some *very* strange things that happen on that fuzzy border between being awake and sleeping.

Be careful of other negative entities trying to mess with you while you are out of your body.
