  • Trillium Empyrean!

  • I think the singer should be in a circus after I saw their music videos.

  • That's one HELL of a way to start a song. Great energy from that drummer.

  • Holy mother of fuck, Darren King is amazing. That was fucking disgusting

  • Everybody's all right? hahahahahaha

    Amazing Performance!!!!!!!

  • they placed the drums infront... you know why?? this is why.

  • 4 people can't look at that drummer

  • I was actually at this. Had never heard of them before but listened to them once I made it back home and thought they were pretty solid.

  • @mcskicksass same for me... saw them live without knowing who they were and instantly became a fan!!!

  • Every song is a drum solo for DK.

  • @minmax17 Ahaha Right?

  • muy buena banda en vivo

  • haha very start. . nnnnnn theank you n theank you and theeeank you again. .

  • These guys are great! Why didn't I found about these guys before!

  • I love them, cant wait for the 3rd album. :)

  • 3:57-4:03

    awesome lol

  • I saw them at Moogfest this weekend and their drummer was INSANE. He was just wailing on the drums and they were soaked. Splashing everywhere. The lead singer slid across his piano on his head and flipped off the other side. It was sick... I'm an instant fan.

  • this drum is so weird

  • i saw these guy at a virgin mobile festival in toronto a couple years ago. as one could tell from there "live in armistice" records, they are incredible in concert. they blew all the many acts away from that day. --artic monkeys--interpool--bjork(bjjoke)--ect..

  • Im kinda afraid of the drummer...

  • @Snipto I had a chance to meet Darren and the guys at the 9:30 club in DC when they were on their Debut tour....VERY VERY down to earth guys!!! No one to be scared of.

  • I love this Band!

  • The bassist is so good! I love the sounds!

  • Love this song. His voice. Love Electrify. Love their drummer. This life performance totally rocked. Thanks for sharing.

  • i saw these guys live once supporting another band, they were so good i forgot who the lead band was. these guys stole the show.

  • what a great performance this bands rocks

  • What I love about Mutemath is that they're all amazingly talented. Even the guitarist / backing-vocalist and bassist, though you don't notice, they are great at what they do (and can even do other things like the bassist who helps do drums and the guitarist who does some effect work on other songs and great back-up vocals). This by far is still one of my favorite songs to hear live.

  • Mm...monkeys.

  • These guys are the real deal.

  • These dudes are incredible. What an amazing live act. I saw them live in Seattle way back when, and they blew my mind. Awesome band, awesome performance.

  • perfect mix, and perfectly played!

  • "Everybody allright?" LOL.

  • Saw them live in Chicago, they are a completely beastly band to see!!!!! LOVE THEM!!! :)

  • @solblos the drummers name is Darren King and I have known him since we were little...he and I are like 8 months apart in age...we used to chase each other around the nursery at church is what my momma told me :-) and yes he is a "mad-good-insane drummer" and an awesome friend :-)

  • @RosyShocker He is really just the nicest guy!! I met him a couple of times after the concerts and he was just so polite and nice!! His momma must be proud!

  • @RosyShocker WOW!

you are friends with Darren King?!

    LUCKYYY!

i met him he's really funny and nice :)

  • @whosebad94 Yeah I grew up with him actually. Known him since I was 3 and he was 2 we attended the same church together as kids :-) I still see and talk with his mom from time to time and he and I talk on the phone every so often. He tried to teach me a little drumming...with little success lol.

  • Mmm, Monkeys...

  • u kno ur doin ur thang wen Letterman shouts u out... superb...

  • The bass guitarist is awesome too!!!

  • :D

Don't think I've ever seen anyone rock out so hard on a keytar before!!! Mutemath FTW.

  • @gatemarzipan I don't know any other band with a keytar as trademark.... you?

  • @mRRRc true...true.

  • @mRRRc cobra starship

  • @mRRRc Family Force 5 does too. Nadaddy plays one at all their shows. They aren't that well known though

  • Remember the muppet Animal? You know, the one who had the wicked drum solos but looked like he wasn't playing it at all? Yeah, that's @ 2:57

  • What song is this?

  • @paperbackraita the song called '' typical '' from the second album ..

  • Darren King is amazing

  • @jeepguysc yup he is :-) one of my best friends!!!

  • Drummer is INSANE (yet awesome). Bass in this kickin' too. Great song- great gig.

  • @bbunn91 YES, have seen them 3 times and they were some of the best nights of my life too!

  • @bbunn91 Damn!

  • Key-tar= awesome

  • amazing performance!!!

  • Love Mute Math! The first song of their's I heard was "Spotlight", they are so awesome.

  • I hope you didn't hear it from the Twilight soundtrack.

  • road rusty...

  • they are so good!!

  • I hear Mutemath might tour with The Suicide Denial, that would be freaking sweet.

  • Ha ha, Letterman sounds wasted!

maybe because it was pretty intoxicating ._.

    Think about it.

  • Everybody all right? LOL

  • this drummer is absolutely amazing. letterman got that one right.

  • lol! everybody alright? he says.

  • excellent!

  • The lead singer sounds (and looks) kind of like Richard Patrick from Filter.

  • Comment removed

  • He was formerly in a band called Earthsuit.

  • @billybobhirner Yes Earthsiut came to out church to a youth meeting. they were awsome. many years ago though.

  • letterman sounds drunk in the end lol

  • yeah boi how about that drummer ha ha

  • yes he is!!

but again, i wouldn't ever let him sit in on my tubs!

  • i love them.

  • what song is this?

  • typical

  • the drummer look at that guy..ahaha

  • Letterman was really stoked at the end.

  • who wouldnt be after listening to this song, its beyond amazing isnt it ???

  • yes indeed. great band

  • Goodnight everybody.

  • mmmm....monkeys

  • Fucking Awesome

  • why always typical they have other good songs 2 -,-

  • is it just me or does the singer look like paul rudd...?

  • I don't see the resemblance really, but I could see how one could see one...

  • it's just you.

  • I hooked Paul and Darren onto Utz chips when they came to Baltimore last year XD

  • goig to see them in Boston nov12 at house of blues-cant wait

  • They are by far the best late show performers ever. Period.

  • Music is so powerful. What a gift. Man... Good stuff.

  • this just rocked from beginning to the end

  • its a wonder more ppl dont know about them

    they are so friggin good!!

  • YES!

  • Good band, I'm not a fan of the Christian aspect of their music, but besides that its pretty good.

  • Saw these guys in Toronto on the weekend and they totally ROCK!!! Amazing live show. Paul Meany's handstand on the keyboards was mindblowing and Darren King is a total animal on drums! I love their sound :)

  • Dont judge live on this performance...I have seen them twice and it is one of the best shows. They do a lot of incredible stunts on stage they couldn't do on TV.

  • heyyy. nice band,..... let"sss go roy !

  • It would seem that Mutemath is one of those bands who is better on CD than live. It's funny how some are better live than on CD and others are better on CD than live.

That's not meant as a knock on MM, 'cause I love their CD.

  • Your judging their live performance by this one song on Letterman?

Check out their live DVD or attend a show if you get the chance, I know I will.

  • Have you seen them live or have you only seen them "live" on TV? Because those studios aren't set up for music properly. They have the BEST live show I've ever been to and they are WAY better live if you actually go to a concert. I've never had a better concert experience than theirs. And I've been to quite a few.

  • yeah, to second what some of the others have said, they are a lot better in a real live setting rather than "stay on this stage where our cameras can see you."

  • Are you crazy, they knocked that song out of the park.

  • Lol guys I KNOW this song is called "TYPICAL" I was referin to the song they played on the 27th of august called "backfire".

  • very nice...great band..

    yea, the drummer rock's it.

but, i would never let him sit in on my kit...

  • Hahaha

  • The song is called "Typical"

  • phat sound :}

    again... :}

  • flawless live. best band.

  • they were awesome on Letterman!!! Darren is HELL on the drums. NOW THATS HOW A BAND SHOULD PLAY!!!

  • when will that be posted??

  • its called backfire and no its not a new backing guitarist . same one as always greg hill

  • they are on letterman right now...just awesome<333

  • what was the name of the song they just played on letterman

  • i dont know but if u find out let me know.its a new backing guitarist also

  • Nope. This is Typical, from their last album. They played Backfire, from their new album, Armistice, on Letterman 8-27-09.

  • the song isn't "backfire" it's "Typical"

  • letterman's laugh is awful, mutemath on the other hand is great

  • i ♥mUtemAtH

  • well, he gets massive tail. you, on the other hand, have a gaping black hole where your penis ought to be. that's really what it comes down to: who gets the massive tail. now shut the fuck up and go play in traffic.

  • that was awesome these guys rock

  • drummer steals the show

  • love the way his snare sounds, guy just jams so hard

  • they're freakin' gooooooooood. ^^ love it

  • I freaking miss earthsuit

  • I remember when this aired I watched it and I was so happy they were on David Letterman.

  • so what exactly is that instrument the lead singer is holding?

  • It's called a keytar

  • a KEYTAR! It's a keyboard-MIDI-controller (it takes sounds from either itself or a computer sound bank somewhere) and it looks freaking awesome. ;)

  • Darren King rocks the tiny kit. Just keep whaling on them man, I will like it!!

  • Hope for today's dying music scene?? Perhaps...

  • Definitely.

  • dude, that was awesome!!!

  • mute math freckin recks this is about what i jam too when i drive around

  • hahahah..they're like some crazy monkeys in the end! loove it :)

  • Insane Drummer

  • love the way the drums arent at the back of them

  • good observation, that dude jams

  • sick.

  • what a great band this song is awesome

  • well-said

  • greg looks so cool in the opening minutes...this song was made for darren's drums too. and roy's bass is sick nasty too. lol

  • hmmm monkeys

  • didn't bands used to get made fun of for using instruments like the keytar?

  • haha i really never heard of a key-tar before. its pretty cool really hahha

  • How could you say that?!!!!!!

    Paul is amazing!!!!!!

  • Sting kicks ass dude. It's not weaksauce. Their music is just more relaxing. People call it reggae. Der. It actually sounded the microphone had some problems. Paul Meany usually does sing better.

  • the bass is really clear.... i mean usually when some bands perform you can hardly hear it...

  • Darren King really is a monster. Nobody drums that well any more.

  • you aren't looking hard enough...still dude is awesome!

  • Don't you just love Paul Meany's voice? He IS like Sting's bastard child! I never thought of his voice as similar to Sting's! LOL Mute Math!

  • a young young bono

  • Their music reflects their personal influences of their beliefs, but I wouldn't call their music "religious". I knew Paul Meany and Roy Mitchell and Darren King from their work with Earthsuit way back, which is probably where you've probably heard of their "religious" background, but Mute Math is not a "Christian music band". But they just rock, wherever and whenever they played!

  • dude they are all very talented, technique is amazing

  • their music is religious?

  • they fought to have their music not released as christian so i wouldnt call it that. just experimental rock/other

  • i'm not into this type of bands i'm into simple plan, zebrahead, daughtry..etc [pop punk, rock, metal] but i doon't know i just LOVE them =P<3

  • i said Mute Math is not the kind of band i love but i don't know i just LOVE themm [Mute math] i didn't say i hate themm i LOVEEEEEEE themm i even have their album so don't give me a thump down!! goshh. readd properly first! and whatever i'll love these bands forever. i don't care what you think and people too! everyone can love any band they want!

  • I know that you love MuteMath...so what??? Mutemath its not much of a great band either, they are just ok...and lets not forget about Simple Plan, its obvious you can love any band, I'm just telling that you are making a full of yourself telling everyone you love that crap...

Man I'm saving your arse here! listen to what I say! next time if someone ask you'll say "I´m into The Velvet Underground" ok?

  • Ok mentioning Simple plan, out of all the thousand bands out there, just proves that you have no musical talent at all. "Save your arse" my ass, you don't even have a bloody ear for good music. and i suggest you get one.

  • Read before you start to judge asshole...I dont like Simple Plan, its "Ashleytfaan's" choice. And how do you know I have bad taste? You must know me well right?

  • Well first of all, he's an actual musician whose the best in his field next to Eric Clapton and if you had half a brain you would know that. And also, before you call me an asshole, I'm a freakin girl so if you're gonna try and insult me at least get it right. :)

  • Sorry I dont get it...Dont know what the fuck are you talking about!

    Who's next to Eric Clapton???

  • Are you some kind of an idiot or something? Mute Math is a great band, all the members are talented and can play a variety of different styles, Simple Plan just flat out sucks. Don't come to MM videos with shit like this.

  • Great musicians!!

  • MM is the best live band on the circuit. Darren King is the reincarnation of Keith Moon!

  • Yes, and Paul Meany is Sting's bastard-child!
