  • You had me at scatter plot!

  • HAHAH this is amazing

  • Challenge: Do an interpretive dance for Pi ;)

  • Sin an Cos Graph LOL!

  • GLORIOUS

  • scatter plot one was pr0.

  • @klija2 Because it was a supplement. Do you not know anything about Tufts? They want people who can just be themselves. It even says so in their intro. I think this applicant did a fine job of just that.

  • Please tell me you got in. That was amazing.

  • hahahaha.......yeah no calculus is fucking exhausting

  • 58 people have no creativity.

  • you're awesome.

  • okay.

  • oh hellllll ya 2014!

  • some students learn kinesthetically. i am glad our culture is changing and the traditional way of applying to colleges is slowly changing. hooray for independent producers and performers like YOU! :D

  • I now know who they named that syndrome after

  • @glueturkey You are the one who should be admitted to Tufts! Haha great one

  • my mom is a math teacher, and she teaches her students silly little dances like this, but she has songs too! :D

    great work! keep it up.

  • LOLLLLZZZS WIENERZZZSSSS LOLL

  • What a complete hottie.

  • ha that's hilarious. you need some music on those moves

  • lol, as a math major-tjhis was awsome!

  • fantastic!

  • last 2 are the best.... awesome vid

  • <3 pretty and smartie :)

  • No way. the sin cos graph dance pwned above all.

  • that shit is gangster!!!

  • my sister is going to be a '14 at tufts. glad to see that she has much to learn from her peers.

  • 10/10 for creativity :D

  • adorable!

  • go to tufts so I can date you!

  • Nice!

  • you were also on newsweek's website this week!

    did this girl get in????????????

  • @ismini14 Yes I did!

  • @downsamelia Congratulations! You deserve it! You should become a math major !!!!!!

  • @downsamelia congratulations!

  • @downsamelia Are you going!?

  • @downsamelia no way

  • true nerd

  • Ok am I the only one, or is she hot or not?? The best body ever!(sorry amelia, you are too hot)

  • Pie graph and scatter plot are my favorite dances. Scatter plot is my favorite graph.

  • This is great! As someone going into dance education it is refreshing to see how you can creatively integrate math and dance together!! :)

  • Who would ever do any of those dances in real life? =/

  • I cringed at the dances....but it made me lol

  • Amusing. Although if I were doing admissions I'd wonder why she's dancing to trivial math concepts that are from middle school and hope it's just because they're more danceable and not a reflection of her math level. She's certainly a nerd, but is she a smart nerd?

  • @ChadZ1 It's not so much about how good her math skills are, but more that she can think outside of the box, make connections, and be creative. It's why schools don't just look at your SAT scores and GPA. :P When you get out of college most professions could care less whether you know concepts, but wheter you can use those concepts to bring in innovation.

  • so did you get in?

  • awkward that you thought it was cotangent...

  • @flexirulers eh, just an embarrassing labeling mistake.

  • Hi Amelia - Your video is cute and clever. I like the first few scenes where you introduce the story. There's a good sense of forward motion and build up. The audio could be improved though. The levels jump around and then it is too jarring the way it suddenly goes silent. Also, you open the video with a "Oh, hi there !" but there is no sense of an ending, just a sudden and jarring termination. When you get into college, you will want to think more thoroughly through your projects.

  • I wonder about interpretive factorial?

  • you'd totes fit in here :)

  • A star is thus born ...

  • LOL

  • you are now on the news in Japan as well!!! lol

Hope you get a good news ;)

  • Heard about you on NPR today. You really made me laugh. Good luck!

  • Ahahaha. Very clever! I wish I had sent MIT something this creative. XD

  • I LOWELLed

  • Come on, Admissions Board!

Tufts will be a better place with this girl.

  • 0:39

  • this. is a nerd.

you will fit in well at tufts. =)

  • You go girl! Amazing!

  • Classic!!

  • scatter plot and bar graph dance WIN!

  • nerd alert

  • I will agree your a nerd. Good Luck!

  • If Tufts doesn't want you, UCLA does!

  • I thought this might end up being stupid, but I loved it. I laughed out loud. Great job, Amelia, and best of luck!

  • Shes my favourite nerd!

  • Nerds have amazing sex

  • Admit her with a scholarship - the world needs more people who make math fun!

  • @holdenthedestroyer

true that, there's too many teachers that stifle motivation in the maths and science

another problem is that algebra is boring and seems worthless so tons of students never get to the real fun and interesting math: calculus

  • @holdenthedestroyer maths are actually fun

  • My favorite was the sin and cos graph.

  • hahahahahahaha

  • this skills for a geek in a disco, is like a knight, riding a dragon and throwing wolves on coakroaches ;)

but seriously, this is indeed clever.

  • AWSOME !!! :) :) :)

Michael Jackson 's Thriller choregraphy includes the Bar Graph Dance !!

    ;)

  • cot(x) dance was my favorite

  • nice. admit her....

  • Win.

  • OMG

  • YOU NEED TO PICK HER. NOW.

  • HIRE THAT WOMAN.

  • Funny and clever!

  • i just wrote an essay to tufts... i guess im a purist?

  • haha so did i. i didn't think i'd be interesting enough to do this, but i like hers.

  • it would've been cool if you had music playing in the background :P

  • Im totally goin to attempt those at the club!!

  • Loved it! Something nerdy dancers everywhere can appreciate! :)

  • geeky, but cute

  • Are you kidding me???...next thing we're gonna see is some blonde chick from California hiring Francis Ford Coppola to direct her video-essay for Harvard Law School. I hope this video essay thing is just an optional add on next to the real 500 word essay.

  • that would be a great movie

  • @Chavezoid She does have a 4.0.

  • @Chavezoid read title: Tufts' optional essay. You, sir (or ma'am) are an absolute moron.

  • Never before have I wanted to dance.

  • you are the coolest(?) sister

  • The math nerd in me squeals.

  • i love treez! I love dances! check out my vid

  • hahaha

  • I believe this qualifies you for Uber-Nerd!

    Well done!

  • These excellent visual communications skills will enhance your future. I would vote for your admission to my college.

  • This is hilarious! Yay math nerds and dancing :)

  • That is so cool--do one for a cardioid--

  • Really cute. Hope you get in!

  • Every kind of awesome! Thanks for cheering up my day! :-)

  • "Oh hi there I didn't see you?"

    Cheesy is thy middle name!

  • haha! great math dance moves! i hope that actress from The Wonder Years, whose a math genius does the math moves! :) you two could have a hit!

  • I love your video! I'm definitely showing it to my Stat teacher tomorrow. Good luck, although after all of this, I don't think you'll need it.

  • hey, that's pretty smart, if not extremely dorky

  • Amelia . . . you will be a wonderful student wherever you decide to study. You may very well get offers from schools for which you haven't even applied for admission. Creativity + Intelligence + SenseOfHumor = EndlessPossiblities.

    Good luck !

  • My boyfriend sent me the New York Times article with this video in it. I have to say your video was my favorite. The math dances are great.

One of my best friends is in her second year at Tufts and she absolutely loves it.

    Best of luck :]

  • A follow-up thought, Amelia: if you want this video to get tons of hits, perhaps you'd better rename it or post it again with a different title. A few tags will not hurt either. I posted links to it in my MathVentures blogs.

  • I'm not sure what you plan to do once you graduate from Tufts, or any other fine college, but I'm betting right now you will great at it!!

  • Wonderful! (typo in video: "soild")

  • Thanks! I annotated it in. I'm rather embarrassed.

  • @downsamelia dont be. thats what annotations are for. It kinda adds, that no one is perfect.

  • @downsamelia was i the only one whom commented on the cotx actually being cscx (or secx)?

if so..thats funny..the people love it but dont even know what you are doing!

still a great job fun stuff! thanks

  • hey i knew it too, buttnugget

  • Best of luck Amelia, you're so cool. I wished my math teachers while growing up as kid were like you. I would have learned more. Unfortunately during my time unions protected way underperforming teachers (to say it mildly). Again, wishing you all the best.

  • I'm guessing a pretty insignificant amount of graduates from elite private schools go on to careers in public education though, huh?

  • If anyone thinks that there are no new ways to demonstrate math, Amelia, you have just shown he/she is wrong.

  • Amelia, you are brilliant.

The folks at Taft should be honored you applied. Any college should be proud to have you. I hope you get accepted by your top choice.

  • Tufts.

    The folks at Tufts.

  • Oops... I stand corrected. Thanks. Hope you are as good at catching bright talent as you are at catching typos ;-)

  • Thank you, NYT, for the link. Love the video!!! Need to study the dance moves.

  • LOOOOOOOOVE IT!! Tufts, you better snatch her cause I think other schools are going to offer her $ to come to them. Amelia! You would make a wicked good math teacher. Looking for a summer job?

  • Comment removed

  • Accept her Tufts! Accept her everyone!

  • I Love IT!!!!

  • New York Times!!!

  • Wonderful video! I hope that you get in and that your creativity helps throughout your college endeavours.

  • Much better than that ridiculous one about the shoes.

  • haha :) these shoes dodged flour while making cupcakes?!

mmmm....how many cupcakes we talking about?

  • front page of the New York times...

  • is it possible you did the cosecant graph?

    (and not the cotangent graph)

  • ahhh! You're right! I can't believe I didn't notice. Thanks for telling me!

  • You MUST go to Tufts and then choreograph a math themed dance for Tufts Dance Collective. The scatter plot is hilarious!

    -An impressed Tufts alum

  • Ha ha ha. I read about this at work and looked it up as soon as I got home. Totally worth it. Good Luck!!!

  • OMG I laughed so hard!

  • Saw you in the Boston Globe today. I am a high school math teacher and I plan to show my students your video. Great job! I hope that you get into Tufts.

  • i'm going to wait until the college admissions process is over to make an appropriate comment on this

  • honestly, this is amazing! I love it!

Did you get in? I was thinking of doing a dance for my youtube optional essay thing...

  • The admissions person who gets to watch this is a lucky individual.
