@ReturnBaconSquad Wow............I agree with you. To test coolers, test benches(open air enviroments) are not a true test. Would love to see a closed case test of a NH-d14 vs a H70, also a test of a h70 with decent fans as the standard ones are a joke and do the h70 no favours in tests.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@ReturnBaconSquad I disagree with you. In these comparison videos, you get an Idea of what is better and what it not as good. When he tests 3 different products on the test bench, they will all have lower temps then in the case. But the temperature differences will stay the same. No mater where they are. If he did the temperatures on the sun, you will still see the same cooler cooling better then another, every time.
I'm going to also disagree with you that open benches will yield lower temps, i know for certain that is not true. i've proven time and time again to people with case flow regulated properly and the right amount of past and so forth. its even been shown on some coolers without any paste "metal to metal contact only" have yielded low temps. and no the temp differences do not stay the same. take in consider the liquid temp generated itself in the liquid coolers and the cpu.
Noctua NH-D14 are big ugly pieces of junk. they are more for people spending extra money to OC.
if you build a good system you will have no need for ugly things and no need to OC.
I'd rather build a pc right, that will last longer than build one the is consistently needing attention with OC'ing. and the true fact the there really isn't a difference in visuals when OC'ing unless you max out setting which most people do not notice anyways.
3.8ghz with 75C full load?? may i ask what is the room temps?i am planning to buy this.. but seeing the results makes me doubting of buying. because currently i am using V6GT, i get like 75C at 4Ghz full load. am using i7 930.
hi m8 would u help me i got a intel 990x and i dont know what to get for it the H70 or D14 witch is better? im not gonna clock tho just play at is.. and if u pick D14 would it take over 1 spot at the ram im useing G1 assassin motherboard with coolmaster HAF X case plz help :P witch cools the best?
Why didn't you use the Noctua fans on all of them instead of the cheap corsair fan? But then again the h70 i think still will out peform the Noctua but i believe the Noctua will run better with the noctua fans.
@smeghead617 I just bought the H70, and it fits Perfectly within my CoolerMaster CM690 II Advanced, which have approximitly the same internal dimensions as the HAF 922, so i see no problem whatsoever (:
i got noctua nhu12p se2 with my phenom x6 1090t overclock to 4004Mhz and its been stable.full load all 6 cores running 100% the highest temp is 56degree c using prime 95 for 5hrs. noctua HSF simply amazing.
@FantasyX3I the Nh-D14 is better but it doesnt worth the extra 80$... look up the thermalright silver arrow it is a bit better than the nh-d14 but just a little bit
I got one question Im going to be building a new pc to "replace" my 775 Q9300 system
Base Specs
Corsair Graphite 600T Case
Intel i7 950
Rampage III Formula
Corsair H70
(no idea on ram yet)
Well im wondering if i can front mount the H70 on the front in the hard drives bays (will it fit) Also if the Rad would reach im thinking of attaching a Scythe 120mm Ultra Kaze 3000rpm Fan from my old system onto it its 38mm wide if i use that as a push fan and another as a pull will that help it reach
Cases make a big difference also... for example the Corsair 800D is an awful case for air coolers because it's so big but excellent for water cooling.
hey dude. i'm not much of a tech wiz but i really love comps. i am 13 years btw. here's my specs. Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit Core i5-750 2.66 Mhz Intel DH55TC motherboard Corsair 2GB DDR3 1333mhz x 2 Western Digital Caviar Blue 320 GB Asus Nvidia EN9800GTX+ 512MB DDR3 Thermaltake V3 Black Edition casing Mushkin 500w Power Supply 20" Samsung 2043SW is it good enough for the latest games like cod black ops, batman arkham asylum, crysis, medal of honour? thanks.
@manchesterfc007 Hold onto your 9800GTX. The prices for the better cards will be going down. The GTS 250 is a good budget card, but you wont see better results with it. Keep your eyes out on deals for the GTX 260. Check on newegg.com for cards and prices, then check Amazon.com for the same card. On Amazon.com, you can buy Brand New and Used cards.
@manchesterfc007 Keep your 9800gtx or get a Radeon HD 5770 on newegg.com$139.99 was: $149.99 run game like crysis Amazon.com, you can buy Brand New and Used cards. O.o
You forgot to mention that liquid cooling is much more silent, better performance at lower rpm. And besides, saying your cpu is water cooled sounds way better that saying you've got an aircooled cpu sounding like a jetengine. Just an example :P
That H70 cooler is not impressive at all. Linus wanted to go apples to apples, but the truth is that the Noctua would preform far better with the fans that it comes with, and those numbers would be much closer or about the same.
@Macsimus007 your basically saying that the corsair fan was the culprit for the not so good temps of the noctua heatsink, which is very true becasue the noctua fans are better. Now just imagine if the corsair used the noctua fans? Would the temps be better, or equal to that of the noctua heatsink?
@sxyphatboy Yes but noctua fans cost about $20 USD. Adding 2 of those would dramatically increase the price of an already overpriced item. You can get the noctua for $60 and it comes with 2 fans, and with the proper fans it would prefer as good or better, for much cheaper.
@Macsimus007 ok so your saying again that because of the noctua fans the noctua heatsink performs better? Linus says this in the video. I think that fans should exemplify the heatsink. What I mean is that the heatsink should perform awesome with any fan, while adding the specific noctua fans would make it better. I don't like this noctua heatsink I like the NH-D14. Final words: noise wise I choose the noctua, temps wise I choose the h-70.
@sxyphatboy The spacing of the fins are designed to work optimally with the fans they design for it. You don't seem to be understanding what I'm saying. Let's use your example of the D14. The d14 will run you around $80 or so and will perform better than the h70, hands down. The h70 will cost you around $110. In order order to add some noctua fans you'll add about $40 onto the price. That's nearly double the price for and for what. The temps will not be better, despite what you say.
@sxyphatboy You could also add on a 3rd fan to the D14, still be cheaper than an h70 with stock fans, and cooler better than an h70 no matter what fans you add. Unless you're going to go with something stupid like 4krpm fans. It's just completely and all around fail, and is only good for those who want to say they have watercooling. The heatsink with 2 fans makes it rather large as well, so the advantage of the h50's small size is pretty much gone at this point. This product is a gimic.
@Macsimus007 good points. I have the H50 with push pull config, one fan of the h50 and the other a case fan I had, Q8300 @ 3.2xx idle at 34-37 with 1.27 vdrop controlled, max load is 60 for 6 hours of prime95. I fell into the gimic but it works. I WANT LINUS TO COMMENT ON OUR DISCUTION.
WOW WHY did you change the fans on the noctua?! dude you gotta be like retarded to not realize that noctua fans MAKE their cooling products as good as they are. Cmon dude get it straight.
@CABdosdos He says in the video " He's using the same 2 fans because he wants this to be as much an apples to apples comparison as possible". DDDaaaa who's the retard, take the shit out of your ears dummy.
I think you should use the stock fans that came with the noctua I have the se1, and the stock fans work better than any other fans that I have tried (shot of deltas). Apples to apples, put 252.85CFM deltas on all the coolers and basically remove airflow as a variable :P Just make sure to wear ear protection around the deltas :P
Where can one DL these progs you use to check CPU Temp, etc. And all that kind of stuff. Would be nice for you do a little show on all of those things.
The $20 difference between the H70 and the NHU-12P could explain a bit of the 5 degree difference. Big Air out performs small water for the price point in every test I've seen.
How do you put the sealed units outside of a case, most cases have holes for water cooling but you cant slide the rad or pump threw them. So unless you hack your case you can not put those sealed units on the outside. Can you?
I'm realy content with the V8 cooler, looks great cools great, fan in de middle of the fins, add an exhaust fan in the case itself and i7's at 4ghz run cool al a syberian summers breeze :)
Corsair H70 is just way too big lol. Once you put it on your case, you won't be able to reach the the 8 pin mobo power connector or the 3/4 pin fan connectors because it completely blocks it (so plug those in before you do anything lol)
Meh...I'd rather get a real water cooling kit or buy the Silverstone Raven 02 (Fortress 02) and the Noctua NH-D14 then getting these gimmicky all in one water cooling kits, or just stick with the stockcooler and replace the fan. I personally feel like the all in one solutions give false impressions.
Wait lemme get this straight. So that's air cooling? So it basically blows colder air in, while removing the old hot air, is that how it works? I always thought that was liquid cooling :O! Please some one reply back to let me know if I'm correct.
@movies1239 the liquid transfers the heat from the CPU to the Radiator where heat can be better dissipated by the fans then it could on a regular cooler. The fans are sucking cold air in and blowing it past the radiator fins and the blowing the hot air away.
Thats strange my H50 doesn't go much above 75 C with push pull fans at a medium speed and a core i7 clocked at 4 Ghz, and the H70 here got the same temps with high speed push pull and a core i7 at 3.8 ghz
1 question to You! ;) Are you Bill Gates's member of family? Where the hell do you get money from to do this? you have like 560 videos with unboxing expensive things...
best case - simply needs cleaning up; worst case - machine blows up and caught house on fire....
but at least Cosair's unit is pretty reliable, there is no CONFIRMED case of leaking. So safety wise, it should be as safe as the liquid capacitors still being used on lower end motherboards.
@Lynx2171 tell Corsair, the other Compact liquid cooling Manufacturers, and the millions of dollars they made that "all in one water systems are pointless"
GTS 450 FTW! What you think of the card as i am hoping to get a eVGA super overclocked version.

@mooman219
lol rite on. to be exact on cooling, clock to clock, you would need to have duplicate boards with the coolers on them for comparison.
second -thermal compound or paste doesn't even set in until hours or evens days before you will see a true noticeable difference in temps
.third -without an initial temp on the coolers before overclocking a review is if anything premature.
testing with tech benches in a unrealistic environment will yield different results

Macsimus007 1 year ago
@Macsimus007 good points. I have the H50 with push pull config, one fan of the h50 and the other a case fan I had, Q8300 @ 3.2xx idle at 34-37 with 1.27 vdrop controlled, max load is 60 for 6 hours of prime95. I fell into the gimic but it works. I WANT LINUS TO COMMENT ON OUR DISCUTION.

I wouldn't mind seeing you do a video with the h70 using the silverstone air penetrator fans :).

I've got the Corsair H70 in an AMD X6 1090T and I get 17c lowest on idle and 30c on max load :)
mrbyam64 1 year ago
@mrbyam64 You're ambient temp must be like 13c. Do you live in the arctic :o
Macsimus007 1 year ago
WOW WHY did you change the fans on the noctua?! dude you gotta be like retarded to not realize that noctua fans MAKE their cooling products as good as they are. Cmon dude get it straight.

@CABdosdos he said why.. he wanted this test to be apples to apples test..

@CABdosdos He says in the video " He's using the same 2 fans because he wants this to be as much an apples to apples comparison as possible". DDDaaaa who's the retard, take the shit out of your ears dummy.

still think coolit rocks. Normal airflow. price/perfomrance. ect ect, and your not paying 90% for the box like corsairs

Why wouldn't you use a noctua nh-d14 in this test?
blakelocati 1 year ago 11
I think you should use the stock fans that came with the noctua I have the se1, and the stock fans work better than any other fans that I have tried (shot of deltas). Apples to apples, put 252.85CFM deltas on all the coolers and basically remove airflow as a variable :P Just make sure to wear ear protection around the deltas :P

Hey LinusTechTips, I would just like to know.
Where can one DL these progs you use to check CPU Temp, etc. And all that kind of stuff. Would be nice for you do a little show on all of those things.
Thanks

The $20 difference between the H70 and the NHU-12P could explain a bit of the 5 degree difference. Big Air out performs small water for the price point in every test I've seen.

why not using the Noctua NHD14 instead of NH-U12P SE2 ?

How do you put the sealed units outside of a case, most cases have holes for water cooling but you cant slide the rad or pump threw them. So unless you hack your case you can not put those sealed units on the outside. Can you?
crazyprime 1 year ago
I'm realy content with the V8 cooler, looks great cools great, fan in de middle of the fins, add an exhaust fan in the case itself and i7's at 4ghz run cool al a syberian summers breeze :)

ArtDamage911 1 year ago
Corsair H70 is just way too big lol. Once you put it on your case, you won't be able to reach the the 8 pin mobo power connector or the 3/4 pin fan connectors because it completely blocks it (so plug those in before you do anything lol)

Noctua d14 vs. Corsair H70?
GameBigc 1 year ago
Meh...I'd rather get a real water cooling kit or buy the Silverstone Raven 02 (Fortress 02) and the Noctua NH-D14 then getting these gimmicky all in one water cooling kits, or just stick with the stockcooler and replace the fan. I personally feel like the all in one solutions give false impressions.
nagdlee 1 year ago
Wait lemme get this straight. So that's air cooling? So it basically blows colder air in, while removing the old hot air, is that how it works? I always thought that was liquid cooling :O! Please some one reply back to let me know if I'm correct.
movies1239 1 year ago
@movies1239 the liquid transfers the heat from the CPU to the Radiator where heat can be better dissipated by the fans then it could on a regular cooler. The fans are sucking cold air in and blowing it past the radiator fins and the blowing the hot air away.
Flashlabs 1 year ago
@Flashlabs OHH!! So it was liquid cooling after all :O! Okay, thanks man for clearing that up for me. I'm considering purchasing this =P!
movies1239 1 year ago
Thats strange my H50 doesn't go much above 75 C with push pull fans at a medium speed and a core i7 clocked at 4 Ghz, and the H70 here got the same temps with high speed push pull and a core i7 at 3.8 ghz

GreenyPoop 1 year ago
wait, what hapends if there's a diffect in the pre filled liquid cooling units for example leak or something and your pc gets screwed.
Ive been wondering what happends....
xXJOEVXx 1 year ago 2
@xXJOEVXx
best case - simply needs cleaning up; worst case - machine blows up and caught house on fire....
but at least Cosair's unit is pretty reliable, there is no CONFIRMED case of leaking. So safety wise, it should be as safe as the liquid capacitors still being used on lower end motherboards.
selyss12345 1 year ago
Sorry, all in one water systems are pointles. Silver Arrow, NH-D14, Venomous x will all do better. If you want water cooling buy a kit!!!!!

Cheaper, more defined for your usage, et cetera.
