  • congrats amanda on being so successful even though people may think you are completely disabled jsut because of your autism. i think you are very talented and should continue expressing yourself.

  • its was really good, btw your cat is really cute too! :)

  • Thank you for your beautifull gift, and thank you for helping us to understand.. : 0 )

I have never heard anything like this before.

  • I cannot explain it because it is what is normal to me, it's just what i do, just like some other people roll in their sleep ect.. anyway i was curious about the choice for 2 flutes, and also if you believe you can expand and play different notes on them to create 2 note chords.

  • that was 2 note chords. the second flute was harmonizing with the first. btw, love your videos amanda. you deserve your own full-length documentary.

  • i am curious though, i have certain problems dealing with things in life, such as if i walk into a room that has floor tiles, there are certain ones i feel an inner doom about touching. also i have an inner urge for even numbers, if i do something like tap a finger, it must be an even amount of times.

  • that's called OCD. Obsessive compulsive disorder

  • Where did you get your double flute? Through lots of searching I've only found one source online that has them below $100. Does it have a brand on it?

    Thanks!

    Blake

  • It was a gift a long time ago, I have no idea where it's from.

  • i watch all your videos and try to imaginate the things that are difficult for you and the ones that are easy. fascinating that you can play 2 flutes at the same time! i can not imagine why you can not use this coordination skills in other circumstances - but that only tells something about my imaginatin skills :(

  • Coordination isn't my problem usually.

It's further up the movement chain than that in the brain.

They're saying now that coordination problems and my sort of more advanced motor problems in autistic people are related to each other, but they're differences in different *parts* of how movement takes place.

  • And there's a very short description of movement in autism that I paraphrase (don't like the original, and the original author now agrees with me) to:

  • Differences in: starting, stopping, executing, continuing, combining, switching.

May affect: postures, actions, speech, thoughts, perceptions, emotions, memories.

  • And I spoke to one of the people who wrote the original version of that recently, and she said she could tell I had some of these movement issues just from my posture and such in childhood photos, and that she suspected I was one of those kids who climbed everything but could be clumsy on the ground (which is correct). There's a rhyme and reason to it, it's just not immediately obvious to people who move in more standard ways.

  • Hi Amanda, thanks so much for answering me - this made my day :)

Do you really think that your thoughts, perceptions, emotions and memories are affected too? To me this seems a dangerous statement because it questions your reality - and as a consequence your personality!

Or did i get that wrong?

  • Yes, I know they are -- but it's not all a bad thing, which is why I objected to the original phrasing which put it purely in negative terms. And it's not cut and dried, there's of course massive intersection with the way most people's minds work. But it's definitely more than just what people think of when they think of movement.

  • ok - that makes sense to me, thanks for the explanation.

i have another question but i post it to your 'in my language# video to which it belongs.

  • Hey! This was fun to watch! I do this often with my recorders, the hardest part is getting both mouth pieces in your mouth! Good job! Bravo!

  • Again- Bravo- you rock- that's awesome. so very talented- blows me away. thanks for staying so positive- when there are too many evil people on you tube to count.

  • I liked it, good tune.

  • lol 4 different intervals.

  • Yeah, there's not a whole lot of notes you can hit with one hand.

  • Thats amazing...fine motors skills at its best!!!

  • lol! your cat was trying so hard to get your attention (i think she licked your arm)-but she gave up and jumped down.

  • That's cool!

  • Hi, silentmiaow. Is this piece commonly available to musicians, or was it an improvisation? Do most people start out learning this instrument with just one pennywhistle? How did you begin (one or two?). I have not played an instrument in some time, and miss making music. This might be a good choice for me, as I do a lot of breath work in yoga and tai chi, and I think that would complement the breathing in playing a wind instrument like this. Beautiful music! Thank you!

  • That rocks! Has a very 15th century sound to it. I can barely play ONE flute at a time, much less two. This is great! If you like this technique there is a Native American flute player who plays two flutes at once named Robert Tree Cody. I just think its very cool that with double flutes you can play duets all on your own.

  • Saw your video on the news, your "in my language". I thought it was great. i have never known anyone autistic. i find it interesting and amazing that after so many years of thinking that people with autism were unable to communicate what was going on around them, they discovered that it is actually because of an overload of stimuli that they are simply overwhelmed and the things they do which seem "weird" to us is their way of concentrating and focusing.

  • I seen your story on CNN last nite... you are a very amazing person Amanda.. was just here checking out some of yer other videos:)

  • that sounds really cool

  • haha i suck at playing even one of those. i wish i could make both of my hands mirror each other like that too.

  • HOLY CRAP! i found the "In my language" on a airsoft thread and we all thought it was amazing!!! so i went on Utube and found all ur other stuff. BRAVO!!

  • Gee when I posted to you other video I had no idea you played the flute! Awesome! I'm a flute maker and collector. But I play to my own tune! Good knowing you! Freida (Mrs. GeezerArt)

  • Thanks for demostrating the dual flute. Never seen one and you

    play it well! :-) Stanley

  • So, you were a big hit at the Renaissance Faire in Novato weren't you? Come on, you had a costume and everthing, I know you did! :-)

  • Nope. :-P
