mites-i maybe wrong but ive seen this case before. her legs are itchy...buy some mite spay for birds from any pet store. i won't cost more than $15. take food/dribk out of the cage. spay the perches, toys and both budgies (avoiding contat with face/eyes) put food back. repeat daily for a week. if toe tapping still happens, consult a vet.
my problem in my parakeets is that i don't know if is male or female because it have alls dark brown color(i know if is blue is male)i use a medicine for that becuse the doctor say that they have problem :S i don't know i will wait!the one is gray the other one is blue-white,and the third we found it out and we take it and the color of it is blue-gray.soz ,but nice parakeets so cute :P
hey hows your bird now? hope its ok try a rope perch looks like its not happy with this type or maybe it has over grown claws and sore feet from the same size perch
She's revealing the first signs of feet mites. My birds had it too, got it from the breeder. Take both her, and your other bird(s) to the vet because the mites undoubtedly spread to all of them, and it doesn't seem like it yet because it takes them about 6 months to reveal the symptoms. Hope she gets better!!
Try putting in a veriety of perches made out of safe, non-toxic materials. Perches made out of tree banches (manzanita is good and leave the bark on so the bird can chew), mineral (cement or concrete is rough and they like it) and rope are good. The plastic or wood dowels are OK but birds enjoy variety and the mineral perches take care of their nails and the skin on the bottom of their feet.
My parakeet Lilly, who is very tiny compared to my other parakeet Bella, does that same thing except with only one leg? Did you find out what was wrong? Tell me please!
it's better to bring him to a doctor. Mine had the same problem he wasn't able to hold itself on the sitting stick till he fell down and died. He was too small and too low. The reason of his ill leg was that the other one had biten him!
my old parakeet would tap a funky beat like that. he ended getting all fluffed up, and about a week before christmas he died. he was young and sick. i am only nine so i cried for like 3 days straight.
@KarayanDesdemona I cleaned its cage with clorox wipes. I have 2 new Parekeets and they have been alive for longer than a year and there doing well haha
@tak4e4 Yeah the clorox wipes were definitely a bad idea.
I'm glad you learnt your lesson and the new ones are doing better.
I'd suggest looking up whats safe and what isn't and print out the lists in regards to products you can use around your bird etc along with poisonous plants and foods.
I've always had printed copies in my house, to remind myself, as well as my boyfriend. I'd feel terrible if one of my parrots fell ill because we used something we shouldn't.
my parakeet is weak and cant really climb good and is not walking or flying around it just stays in one place but will somtimes climb to the highst perch but with trouble PLEASE HELP!!!!! whats wrong with him?
make sure his ring on his leg is not doing any harm. my parakeet's ring was soo tight the vet to the ring and damaged his leg. my parakeet's leg came off so be extra careful with him
ur budgie is one of the cuties budgies ever...but from my own experience..i had a budgie who had the exact same problem n i later found out he was sick..n a few weeks later he died. pls check if there is any kind of serious sickness he/she has...God bless
I agree with TamTam You should deffenatly take your budgie to an Avian Vet. It could be a nerve problem, vitamin defficiency, anyting really. She also looks very young, how old are they? They shouldn't be bred before a year and a half, which is beside the point if she has a medical condition. If she's unwell she either won't breed, or there will be problems with the chicks. Just more trouble that you don't want. Best to get her checked out asap!!...........cheers
when they bring in eggs you mean? well, I've had this before so, you just need to wait if they actually mated. If so, you need to get a nesting box at a pet store. Any petstore indeed. Then you have to put in some nesting materials that's soft and cushy. then you have to wait!
You need to do alot of research before you even think about breeding. It's not a responsibility that should be taken lightly. First and foremost your bird needs a clean bill of health before breeding
I have a dove that does the same thing but not as much. It`s a result of their claws slipping off the branches. You may want to buy wood sticks instead. He or she is trying to get comfortable. Also make sure to trim the nails and not cut the pick vein inside their nails.
She's on a wooden perch, and doesn't look like she's slipping at all. And her nails don't look that long..........deffenatly not long enough to go all the way around the perch to the underside of her foot. Also your nail clipping advice made no sense. Nail trimming shouldn't be attempted unless you're absolutly sure about what your doing. If you mess up you can cause your bird to bleed to death. Clipping should be left to the experienced, or a vet.
Ok, whether or not what I suggested is the problem, I was simply trying to tell you what it may be. If it`s not helpful, I`m sorry I could not help. And as far as nail clipping, I have been doing it for ten years, have brought him to the vet and she said I was doing fine. Why in the hell do you think they have nail clippers in pet stores? To look at? And do you honestly think bringing a bird in to the vet every single time he or she needs a clipping is necessary?
Maybe budgies are different, but please do not assume that everyone with a bird does not know how to cut their nails. *This message is intended for the person that rudely commented back to me.
How was I rude?? Please explain that to me, when I was commenting on the lack of information in your post. If I was a new bird owner I would have had a hard time understanding your little bit of info on the nail clipping. Is that so wrong for me to point that out? There is no such thing as a "pick vein" it's just a blood vessel that grows into the claw, or blood supply to the nail. And no where did I say you didn't know what you were doing.
If you read my post I never said that a vet needs to clip nails............I said it should be left to the experienced, or.......i repeat or a vet. So again, please explain to me how someone with soooo much experience with clipping nails gives such crappy advice?? If you think I'm rude, well then that's your deal. But i'd rather say something about it, than watch some poor unexperienced bird owner take your advice haphazzarly......and kill their bird because they don't know what they're doing.
I meant "pink vein" or whatnot. I was basically just saying to make sure not to cut near the veins or vessels when you trim..if the bird needs it. And I just mentionned maybe she should get a wooden stick becuase the one in the vid is white and it looked like plastic. I`m not trying to give professional advice, I`m not a vet or highly experienced. I don`t know why you are going on like this, I simply posted a response and you are basically saying I should have not. Mind your business.
Her nails aren't grown that long.......and if you don't know how do clip nails you shouldn't be attemting it. Also you can't just give advice, and then not let people know what to do. If she cuts her birds nails, which I hope she leaves for the vet, she could clip them to far and her bird will bleed to death. People just shouldn't go nuts with the clippers because someone thinks their nails are too long........which if you actually watch the video, they don't look like it.

i think she doesn't like the plastic perch! i've a wooden perch of natural wood (you can try it with a branch)....
MISShafuta 1 year ago
Looks like it could be mites. Also, plastic perches are not good for a budgie's feet. I would recommend some nice wood perches.
BudgieWorld 1 year ago
Plastic perches are no good for a budgie foot.
Get these rope perches.
She could be experiencing feet pain.
Take her to the vet.

It looks like her feet are uncomfortable. She needs a perch with a varying diameter to exercise her feet. That straight wooden pole is no good.
