I must have seen them live about 20 times between 1978 and 1981. My favourite gigs were the ones at the outdoor Crossfields Festival in Deptford that used to be held on August Bank Holidays. Happy days.
I use to have that bass, a Peavey T-40. If you ever get the chance to buy one, do it, they are cheap and awesome, pretty close to a ric sound. But also get yourself a chiropractor. They weigh as much as a tank.
So awesome to see some footage of This Heat live, such a fantastic band. I like how the cameraman has trouble figuring out who's singing.
Great to see them - only they were more Sonic in their Youth ;) e.g. I'd LOVE too see some of their earier gigs, when they were sooooo intense - I remember one when they were on with Charles 'Blood' Ulmer that was awesome .. THIS is spooky, but the earlier gigs were .. Wheahhhhhh !!! Oh wow at 4.50 you get just a BIT of the *Intense* This Heat - Moooore !
thanks for a snapshot of the past. I've been trying to write about my mother and father and this has provided the perfect backdrop whaddya sayin i was alienated???
I love This Heat and the equally amazing (if not moreso) Camberwell Now. But hey, what band do we see a snippet of at the beginning of this great video? Interesting two seconds, that.
Hi, the band at the beginning was called Pension Stammheim, they were from Bonn. The concert looks a lot like the one I saw at the 'Stollwerck' in Cologne. It was really breathtaking.
You may like to know that Flaming Tunes, the album Gareth Williams made when he left This Heat gets its first CD release in the next few weeks. Visit LifeAndLivingRecordsDotCom.
Camberwell now, as I'm sure you may know was born from the remnants of This Heat. Trefor Goronwy (bass player in this video, because that is not Gareth Williams) and Stephen Rickard joined CH to start Camerwell. Had This Heat recorded "Green Fingers" and the last song on the 2nd part of this live set, an early version of "working nights", I'm sure they would've been known as This Heat songs. But they weren't put to tape due to them disbanding- so C Hayward used them for Camberwell
Wow! how amazing to see this. Saw them in Manchester in the early 80's. You can now get most of their stuff on CD. I'd recommend 'Health and Efficiency' and 'Deceit'
Blimey, the things you find on YouTube, I remember seeing them playing with terrifying intensity in Hammersmith in about 1979, along with the Young Marble Giants and a sadly forgotten act called Furious Pig. Gig of a lifetime IMHO. This is them in a later, somewhat rockier incarnation.
great to see this heat again after so long.does anyone out there in webland know where charles bullen is as an old mate from nuneaton would like to know how hes doing.anyway what happenedto ning and airs of earth????
at last. I was wondering what happened to Charles. We used to hang out together back in the 70's.Somtimes I used to roady for him locally. Last time we met he was playing with the "Heat" at a Coventry college in the 80's.Probably the best guitarist I know personally.

Such a strange and captivating band with a creepy mystique about them. There's nothing else quite like This Heat.

Not to get all high and mighty but this stuff transcends punk. Something about it just sounds deep but also just purely, basically awesome.

I don't understand: I thought Green Fingers was a Camberwell Now song, and This Heat was som years before? Who tells me?
Anyway: had the luck to see Camberwell Now live in Horst, together with some 30 other freaks.

great - but they were a progressive band, not a punk band ! ( from the horse's mouth)

Seen them in 'Vera" in Groningen-Holland in the eighties, a night to never forget! Damn shame they don't make music nowadays as far as i know.
One of the most original bands the whole post punk scene has produced.
