  • 0:01 The guy went without scared.

  • Weak sound effect, no ambient lighting coming from it, RIDICILOUS camera shake.

  • @vanhakaveri Thank you, they were my mothers. She died of leukemia. How do you feel now?

    (Couldn't resist)

  • @TheFXGuy ?

  • @vanhakaveri Haha, sorry my friend got on my account.

Keep in mind that this was the first time I ever attempted to make an explosion in any program, so of course there are a few bugs. The bad camera shake was simply because I tracked a shot with real camera motion that was a little too extreme (panning around a guitar) and applied it to this shot, not knowing that it would destroy the camera motion. The lighting was just because I couldn't be bothered to mess with it.

    Sound I just suck at.

  • @TheFXGuy For sound, add multiple explosion sounds overthem selfs, that they play at same time(my english suck). 1 sound thats very low(bassy), then very high sound, and one thats between. And maby debris flying around sound like second after the explosion :).

  • @vanhakaveri I know that now. Since this video, I've mainly been game scripting, but I haven't posted any of my work. I haven't used AE for anything VFX-wise in months.

As for sound, in my mind, the key is to think of the sound every element of the shot would make. The force of the explosion should cause some bass while the fire should make a sort of "whoosh" and/or "charring" sound. The dust would make some salt shaker sort of sounds, and the debris would make the obvious crashing.

  • @vanhakaveri great effect man. i love it. one of the best ones i have seen so far.. what program did you use?

  • @rambhar1 after effects.

  • @TheFXGuy loool

  • @vanhakaveri i would like to see u do better mate

  • @camroon1000 /watch?v=dXZQEi6j6mQ&feature=channel_video_title Keep in mind that thats like ayear old, i dont say that you suck and im better. I can tell you that justin bieber suck, but im not better singer.

  • Hey! Check out my latest teaser trailer for our upcomming project! Rate Thumbs up please! Like ur video! Very good!

  • that's from video copilot

  • @bedo1100 NO IT'S FRICKIN NOT! Read the previous comments.

  • I've discovered that tinting the shadows teal instantly makes an explosion scene look like a Hollywood blockbuster :P

  • Okay, I'm late to this discussion so forgive my ignorance. But is the camera movement done during the original shooting, or added in later (after Effects, etc.)?

  • @CINEMALEXZIKON Haha its all good. I added it in post by tracking real moving footage and applying the motion to all layers in the shot (the original shot was still). For compositing elements, fake camera motion, when done right, looks much better than real motion because it keeps all layers on the same plane, so there are no strange movements and nothing looks flat.

  • Just walk away like noting happened

  • @TheAlienHeroes Some day, I'm going to count how many of these comments talk about the guy walking by like nothing happened.

  • @TheFXGuy Lol its kinda like he is a power ranger walking away from a explosion btw u got in after effects

  • I'm sorry but this NEEDS A TUTORIAL DUDE COME ON!!!

  • this fx is great

  • Cool.

  • very nice...

  • it's a little blown out during the beginning. no pun intended. and i agree that lighting the whole scene during the blast portion would REALLY sell it.. other than that, nice track and whatnot.

  • how did you apply the handheld effect to the scene?

  • @iliasthecoolguy Took a video of a few track markers where I shook the camera quite a bit, applied the motion to a null object and parented everything in the scene to the null.

  • @TheFXGuy why you didint do camera shake with wiggle in after effects :)?

  • That was great!

  • more camera shake

  • just another day for black people!

  • Good work!

  • now thats an explosion!

  • it would be more realistic if the buildings on the side would lighten a bit up from the explosion

  • Comment removed

  • lol he has an rp server on garrys mod now. XD

  • @warkill201 Lol whats ur steam name?

  • @TheFXGuy Zero.. XD

  • @warkill201 I was going to ask how you found my channel, but then I remembered what I always set the thing to.

  • @TheFXGuy shh.. secret.. also i found some great stuff for the server.. so get on steam!

  • @warkill201 Can't for awhile, I'm gonna be out of town. Might get on today, though.

  • hahaha the person keeps walking past

  • Actually if u look at andrew kramer's action ess. 2 when he shows the stuff it can do, he has a tutorial on thiis with the exact footage of the guy who doesn't look back. Parkourisfun is rite

  • @CZfx123 I misunderstood him, I thought he meant I used his tutorial (used no tutorial) or copied the video from his website. Yes, it is the same background clip, but I did the explosion totally by myself.

  • that was the same exact video as andrew kramer...

  • @parkourizfun Oh really? Check again, because unless he put this onto his website without me knowing, it isn't up there, as I made it from scratch.

I love how there are random ppl like you who are convinced that nobody but professionals can pull off realistic effects, so you claim that YouTubers lie about what is theirs and what not.

  • That was pretty legit, looked somewhat realistic.

  • And not even single fuck was given that day.

  • @MultiHippi Leave it to humanity to totally ignore a raging fire like that...

  • How to make debris?

  • @aktugbey I just used a few stock footage elements from Action Essentials 2.

  • That man didn't give a fuck.

  • im looking to make a video of me walking away in slow motion from an explosion and i want the reflection from the light...how would i go about doing this? any help would be great....i already have twixtor for the slow mo which i already know how to do

  • @sonic911 Well, I'm not sure specifically what you want, but here's how I would do the effect:

    1. Build the explosion using as many stock footage elements as needed (remember the little things are what sell a shot; render time will always be worth a good final product) and use a mix of 3D and 2D adjustments/ layers to blend with the background and slow.

    2. Key out the greenscreen footage and slow down. Composite over explosion experimenting with various glows and such to give a good effect.

  • the compositing is great EXCEPT for the fact that there's no light from the fire on the walls and passengers. You could do this by duplicating the video layer and mask out the areas you don't need, then turn the mode to "overlay" or "screen". Try it out ;)

  • @onefromthemass Or I could mask out the areas of the shot that would receive light and use curves/ levels/ a bright yellow solid set to add to give the impression of light casting on the environment. What you suggested would fit more for shadows, but isn't as well suited for lights from very bright things, like fire.

This was my first video, and I've learned a lot since then. Thanks for the comment, though.

  • Fatto Bene bravo :), Ma il Barbone passa come se non fosse successo niente che buffo! XD ihihi

    Cmq Bravo!!!

  • How do you make the camera movements?

  • @HamdiOmar I put a couple track points on the wall and basically shook the camera some. Then I tracked it in AE and parented everything in the composite to the null.

But you can get a better effect from using the expression "wiggle(1, 50)" (- the quotes) on the position and "wiggle(1, 1)" on the rotation. The expressions give a much cleaner result, and it's basically how I do my clips now (with a few keyframes).

  • awesome vids deserves 100k views... sadly people dont understand awesomeness..

  • Did you generate the explosion in after effects, or get it somewhere else and chroma-key it? Thanks!

  • @joshuathejedi stock footage from action essentials 2

  • lol "Cool guys dont look at explosions!" that guys cool :D

  • @micah960 you're the 100000th guy to say that

    minus a couple :)

  • xD flamewar

    YES we can!

  • Comment removed

  • I FAIL?

    YES

  • @Trebor112112 I apologize for all that, I was mad lol

But now it's turned into a flamewar, so can we stop?

  • give some Reason's....

    YoU fAiL

  • @Trebor112112 I fail? I have 38,704 views, 120 comments, and 71 likes and I FAIL?

  • @TheFXGuy MEGA-OWNED

  • Its from a Tutorial!! But You did It Bad

  • @Trebor112112 You're retarted, kid. Go flame somewhere else.

  • Nice...which city is this? I wish I had Electronic Arts press conferences in my country :( The colour matching between explosion and bg plate is nice, but it would be cool if you did a basic geometry map of the buildings and use that to add a lighting pass in a 3d package which can integrate the explosion better.

  • @StudioVoxel I think this is New York, but im not sure. It's stock footage.

And also, this was one of my first videos with after effects. Back then, I couldn't do anything in 3d. Now that I'm pretty good in Blender, I could go back and do it now, but that really seems like too much work lol

  • @TheFXGuy I believe its actually Chicago (notice the Orpheum Theater)

  • @FatPenguinBoss didn't really pay that much attention. I've never been, but if that's something in Chicago, it makes sense.

  • cool guys don't look at explosions

  • @KarelKanonslag its not a template. I made it from scratch, and I no longer have the project. I think I have the project for the updated one, though.

  • @TheFXGuy Scratch? you took that from video co-pilot.net

  • @816nnm God, I love people who have no idea what they're talking about. Have u ever tried to make an explosion? If so, you would know that even though u might use the stock footage, u would still build it from the ground up.

  • The fire and smoke blended really well together,

but it didnt fit the shot :P not bad

and itll be the sound effects thatll really sell it so just gotta search around and build some nice sound!

  • that is one cool homeless person!

  • your edges look a little choppy

  • dude... this came straight from video copilot

  • @cholochris101 dude... ur an idiot

  • @TheFXGuy :P

  • @TheFXGuy aahha yes the footage came from video copilot but yeah thats completely different ahahha

  • @BroknGlasProductions if u mean the stock, then yes. If u mean the explosion, then again, you're retarded. Out of the 102 comments, 2 of them say that this is from videocopilot.

  • @TheFXGuy no like u took the footage and action essentials from video copilot but what ever you make is yours i did the same thing wen i got action essentials and people were like u took that from video copilot agahahah check out some recent effects i did there jsut tests for a project im working on

  • @BroknGlasProductions okay so ur not an idiot. Thanks for being one of the few smart ppl on YouTube.

  • Awesome Job. Just to clear things up, this is 'Action Essentials 2. Amazing site. And I have the pleasure of saying that I live less than a mile away from Andrew Kramer. =P Uploading my own explosion soon on my page. Keep it up!!!

  • @MrTimCreed If you upload an explosion, post it as a response to this. And yes, I did use action essentials II, but the website from which you can buy it is VideoCopilot.

    Wish I lived there, though...

  • lolz it was like BOOM and the dude next to it *whistle whistle* xD other than that nice!

  • Lol, The fireman at the right is def...

  • fucking amazing job on motion tracking

  • Amazing

  • hey excellent work,So did you teach youself by learning from trial and error ? And how long take you to learn how do this like a pro so to speak? I'm a beginner to all all this kind off stuff too. AWESOME DUDE!!!!

  • wow those effects were crazy, to make it more realistic i'd add a camera shake just after the explosion not the whole way through, and more of a shockwave hitting the camera and than the camera fuzz's up anyhow this is pretty awesome goodonya

  • Dont let people insult you man ;) keep making videos....

  • @TheFunniestName well, out of 85 comments I had one bad one, so i wasn't too worried about it.

  • @TheFXGuy

i suggest making the red part of the explosion (the fire) shorter, to make it more realistic,

  • @TheFXGuy where did you get that explosion effect dude!!!!! what site!!!!!

  • Why Didn't you credit Andrew Kramer?

  • @holyman102 Internet police weewooooo.

    Anyways, nice video. Only thing is the people near by didn't seem too fussed about an explosion feet away from them [;

  • @holyman102 uh, because he didn't make this? And like I said, please go flame someone else's videos.

  • @TheFXGuy It's from action essentials and action essentials are from Videocopilot.

Dude, I enjoy your Videos, okay?

  • @holyman102 sorry if I took your comment the wrong way. The two videos you commented on, you said only negative things about.

And thats like saying because I used particular, the video is from trapcode. If you pay for stock footage, you can use it in any way (besides giving it away for free) and you don't really have to credit the creators.

  • @TheFXGuy Oh, Sorry againg. Rock On Bro.

  • It was great except for the unconvincing guy on the right just walking /: But the effects were very believable.

  • I find fire to be one of the hardest keyed-effects. For some reason the colors never match :/

  • @CrzayMazy hard, but not impossible. Remember, this was one of my first videos, so I didn't know how to color correct right. All I knew about col cor was from watching one VC tut and a preset I made, which was really blown out. Without the "film look" that I added, the explosion fit well.

But either way, u can use exposure, curves, and glow to match the coloring and brightness fairly easily.

  • the best i seen for awhile loll, but you need to edit the color of it to kind of match the background. so that way its not completely different

  • Hey, I need you to do a tutorial on how to make this video because Video Copilot sure as hell doesn't have one on this!

  • @thegreatmuffinkings ya im already subscribed to him (thanks to vc linking to chrono trigger).

  • Videocopilot

  • @nakacla What?

  • the woman to the right doesn't care XD

  • @cappacop lol why does everyone think he's a woman?

  • I dont think this is yours.

  • @TheAlexBradley Then you're retarded. Why don't you think it's mine?

  • @TheFXGuy I saw the same thing on the action essentials website

  • @TheAlexBradley Like I said, ur retarded. This is NOTHING like the explosion they have up there. I made this using action essentials 2, but I didn't just copy it from someone else's website.

Just because I used the same background plate as one of their tutorials doesn't mean I copied it from them. Read the rest of the comments and watch half of the other explosions on youtube. Most of them use the same background clip.

  • Wow Perfect!!!!

  • @33MeRt38 thnx

  • ow@Flashinglights007 I know. That's why I removed the people (I think they were just walking when he filmed the clips) on the explosion title. I would've done the same with the updated version, but I wanted it to only upgrade the explosion. Other than removing them completely or replacing them with greenscreened actors, you have to stick with them.

    And thanks!

  • that looks awesome, ive always loved video editing but only just got into after effects, i cannot believe what ive been missing out on! :D

  • @BlackDahliaMurder22 I made a birthday video for my BF and learned Windows Live Movie Maker on my own for 2 weeks. I loved it but I easily got bored because you can't do anything like this or the ones I see in movies. What are using here?

  • @TheSuperk25 I didnt make this video but the videos that are on my channel i use after effects and imovie

  • @TheSuperk25 After effects. You can do the same kinda thing in most compositing apps, but I like ae most.

  • dude that awesome! :D

  • Wow. Look real. Subscribe o_O tutorialll

  • u watched law abiding citizen ? use explosion scenes sound in this movie... or other movie sounds.. :D

  • @boorockx Haven't seen it, but good idea.

  • everything good except sound

  • @boorockx yeah I know the sound sucks, I had no idea (and still don't, really) how to get good sound FX with AE. Gotten a little better, but nothing to shout about.

    Thanks

  • @TheFXGuy hey you should go to flashkit.com it has some pretty cool sounds that u could use in vids

  • @LMPRO1 Mmm... I might check it out, but I have a bunch of sound FX now (designer sfx, all of the source game engine sounds, plus the action essentials sfx).

  • lool it explodes nd then the person walking is just like "Oh nothing out of the ordinary just happened"

  • @ieatyellow No, he's like "Hey look, a cheeseburger!" and waddles off screen.

  • nice look like rly my noob englisht:D

  • @MrSuper39659 if ur saying nice, then thnx

  • where do you get your explosions from ? (website)

  • @ETHANOMFG

i got the stock footage from videocopilot's action essentials 2. great collection, but costs $99-200. Detonation films also works, but i like AE2 better for a bunch of reasons.

  • Nice... Really nice! =)

I also make a After-Effects-Channel! Check my videos! Enjoy! :)

  • check my videos man...

  • @mendoza5088

    k i will

  • did you motion track or rotoscope the keyed out debris to stay on the street and in motion with the camera? or is that actual debris, or a different, seperately keyed in debris

  • @kudjo24 Sry it took so long to reply, didnt see ur comment.

All of the camera motion is simulated. The original clip had no motion, so I tracked a shot of me moving around my old guitar and applied the motion from that to this shot (if that makes sense). THEN i added in all of the cool stuff. I know a lot of ways that come out just as well without having to do all of that crap, but that way worked just fine for this example.

  • very cool! check out my videos using after effects :)

  • ok nice job but can you teach me how to make a one like that

  • @alisafar100

A lot of trial and error. If you're new to AE, make sure to check out tutorials. Helps a LOT.

One thing I found helps sell a shot is to either use matchmoving and create the explosion in 3D space or use a still shot (tripod or picture) and add the camera motion digitally. One reason a lot of people have crappy looking effects is because the camera is in real space (basically 3D) and the stock footage is a 2D layer.

  • Love it!

  • I like the debris, which one of the AME2 pack did you use? And which smoke layer?

  • I can't remember which one I used. I don't even have the original project anymore. I accidentally overwrote it when I made the new one. I'm pretty sure I used one of the Cement ones for the debris and I know I used Dark_Smoke_01 for the smoke. I sped it up because it was too slow, though.

  • well done see my explosion

  • looking good;)

and about the person just walking like there's nothing wrong, its just some stock footage thats made somewhere in a city, you cant really expect people to run like there is an explosion if you ask them, and this was footage that came with action essentials 2:P

    anyways, i like it:)

  • Either that or they did the explosion :)

  • Nice job man. Dont listen to these kids in real life the glass wouldnt have shattered. That was an explosion of fire, not a fragmentation bomb.

  • It is not looking real.

There is no glass break...and the women just keep walking...

  • a few things:

    1. One of my first videos, so lay off.

    2. That's a guy, not a woman.

    3. Everything you see in movies isn't true. If an explosion happens 30 meters away from something, chances are glass won't fall off of it.

  • Is it entirely produced digitally?

  • everything except for the background clip is.

  • Pretty well made :)

The sound isn't near what such an explosion would sound like though :P

  • I know the sound is off; like I said b4, I had no idea how to use sound in AE when I made this.

    Thnx for the comment.

  • No problem. I've made some effects lately too using Action Essentials 2 but it won't upload :/

  • huh amaizing
