such an awesome game. discovered this on my ps2 about a year and a half ago, only just found it again in my room haha. Im assuming your using tate mode. is that a flat screen btw?
@ItzxDanx that's right, tate mode with a 32" flatscreen. Nowadays I would be using the 19" Sharp comupter monitor with the HD scaler as well, as my normal LCD doesn't do a great job of upscaling the image itself.
HELLO MATE, JUST LIKE TO SAY YOUR CHANNEL IS REALLY GOOD, VERY WELL PUT TOGETHER AND THE SUBJECT MATTER IS MY CUP OF TEA, KEEP THOSE SATURN SHOOTERS COMING !
Great review dude! Looks like the Saturn version has a lot less slowdown that the PS1 port I first played. Will definitely add this one to my wish list :)
Great review and indeed it is an awesome shmup. I was playing this the other night on the ps2!
I think it pays homage to 'Raiden' big-time!..right down to the little 'point' things you pick up that look like medals
My only gripe would be that the weapons are slightly imbalanced. I think the electricity weapon turns it into a bit of a cake-walk. I prefer using the one you were using aswell.
@cyanidebreathmintz You're right about those weapons mate, the zapper looks like a short circuit in a muppet's bedroom and the missles look like your throwing pencils at the teacher. Raiden is a big man's game, no time to admire the scenery in that one lOL!
Cool, Shienryu is a class act. Its very much a pick up and play type of game if you know what I mean. Luurvly graphics, great little sound track and really does keep you coming back for more. Its engaging as well, and your spot on with the feel good factor. I think my only criticism is I would like to have seen a greater variety of weapons and the ability to power up further. Garys looking very debonair with the new face fungus! I think the Captain birds eye look could also suit! Great review
@alexgameroom I've heard somewhere that the PS1 port isn't as good as the Saturn version, but dont' ask me why cos they didn't say. I hope you find that helpful. lOL!
@futurematt5 There's the odd spot of slowdown on the PS1, that's probably why. Got steel dragon on the PS2 as well though. Dude, just got out bided in literally the last second on an original arcade PCB of X Multiply. God that's irritating!!
@alexgameroom Damn! That's hugely irritating. Sorry to see it miss the famous 10,000 consoles gameroom. Like me missing the last 2 fake Sapphire auctions by 10 minutes and seeing them sold for under 70 quid. You should try and get Image Fight, the tightest shooter ever!!
I wholeheartedly agree mate, Shienryu is frickin' incredible! I only got it the other day for the Saturn, and can't put it down! Its hard to put into words just how good it is.... but it all just works so well. Superb fun, lovely to look at and provides a fair challenge. Really satisfying and well designed. I actually would go as far as to say I prefer it to some of the heavyweights like Layer Section and DoDonPachi.
@gmintyfresh well mate if I can do anything to convince you how cool this one is!!! BTW I bought strikers on your recommendation and it plays like a dream. Also got chatting parodius and while it's a very nice game indeed, I think it will be years before I get past the first few levels, like all Konami shooters it's nails. Anyway, heaps of options and great characters.
I had this for PS1 years ago. I was disappointed that it didn't have a tate mode but the bizzare extra modes and the GB style minigame is kind of cool.
@Soukyugurentai Yep mate, you can't fault them for adding that extra content but I really would have liked that effort going into making the port nicer. It's not bad just not great...
Great game Matt!! Since it scores high.. i'm gonna have to get this one !! LOL.. gary stardust's awesome.. haha.. lost his tache.. @3:02!!! Hahaa.. Crikey! Got me in the face... :D
@PhatPhunk Cheers Phunk, all the best dude. Thanks for your comments on my tache earlier in the week. It's gone now,,,,but is being replaced by a scraggy beard!!
Bloody Stardust's a LEGEND like, christ! Apologies for my appaulin' brummie attempt, hehe! What can i say, you just about hit the nail on the head with every aspect of this classic, i just love this Warashi spectacle. Definately in my top 5 for the system. Thought Gary revealed a more softer side in this episode, never knew he was an cat lover. Again dude, thanks for yet another journey into the mind of Stardust. :D
I've had it for about ten years now and it is always nice to play.
There's a lot going on in the backgrounds in many of the levels too. I really like level three with all the little ships and things going on in the background.
The laser weapon is a bit irritating as it reaches a limit as to how many enemies it can attack and leaves you in the lurch from time to time - ace game and thanks for the review.
@MintythecatIsABeast Totally. I never stick to that laser if I pick it up by accident, it's too random and clumsy. Possibly a weak point. In fact while the game design is top notch, I do wonder why they didn't rack up the main weapons a bit. The vulcan is excellent, but maybe a clear blue laser or some ring lasers wouldn't have gone amiss. This has given me a great idea for a feature video - "Best weapons in shooters". He ha.
luv this game s0 much, love ur vid even m0re,*)

The review would've been a lot better with the silly editing you threw in there. I'm not exactly sure what that was suppose to be.

Yes, EVEN DoDonPachi. Brilliant.

@MrVengeance83 yep, agreed, a top notch shooter, it's one of the few 'unfrustrating' shooters which seem pretty damn fair.

Great vid, I've shyed away from this shooter because of the sloppy ps1 port but the Sat version looks amazing. As always enjoyed every second
