Reagan didn't rally against some of the basic tenets of capitalism and argue for government regulation of compensation as Obama has, so I think your comparison is half-hearted at best.

No I don't think it excuses the actions he did. He caused suffering to a civillian population out of some misguided sense of revenge. I blame him for not being smart enough to realize that not every Afghan civilian was not a terrorist. A 12 year old should be able to realize this. The fact that it took an entire village saving his life to make him realize his mistake is pretty sad. He praises the army for teaching about honor and loyality, but than just admits he joined them to get revenge.
