If you get water into electronics you can submerge them in rice for 24 to 48 hours and the rice will absorb any water from the electronics. Much safer than just drying out with a hair dryer. Takes longer but you have a better chance of saving your expensive equipment.
In a water spill or rain remember to disconnect the battery power as soon as possible once the model is in hand. The DC voltage to circuits with water will electrically corrode wires and circuit board prints very fast. It is what is called a electrolysis reaction.
You're my new hero alishanmao, you didn´t hesitate to get in the water to take your little bird, I thought all your flights were perfect but its clear that when you're flying you have to be prepared for all. Its great that you could recover all your equipe.
@h2oreactor man, did not you watch the video nicely? I had no control what so ever. If I had slightest control over only rudder I would have landed it safely.
great everything worked after the crash. if it didn't you're talking money to replace the electronics. but it's the nature of this hobby as we all crash. we just don't know when something will go wrong. always need to check.
wow lucky, glad all is well, hopefully better luck next time, i've really been waiting for this vid, because i want to try it also at my local flying field
Man you had my heart racing with the way you did the edit! Couple of more feet would have made a huge difference. So what was the problem with the ESC?
@meatloaf396 LOL Don't ask. I have to rob few banks now and then to keep it going :D LOL nah, its google payment from Youtube thats helping me nowadays to buy all that equipment.
@rccrazer No boats yet. I am the one who is asked to design the tracks. I have designed on road and off road track. we are going to submit them to Local Government soon. once they approve it, we will have them in no time at all. just need to get over those red tapes you know.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us, you say that it was bad luck only 1 metre from land, I think you would have done more damage if you had of hit tera firma! Especially as all electronics dried out ok. 5*
at least it was fresh water. mine crashed in the ocean. it was close to the shore and i wanted to get it people so nosy standing around looking. finally i had to get the plane because it started drifting outward to the sea. ended up swimming for it. the esc got wet and started to burn. had to swim to get the canopy way out. almost drown doing it. what a mess and embarrassing.
@boywaimea tell me bout it. In Ocean water, things start to burn soon. thats a total loss. next time never put your life on for some RC Plane equipment mate
@alishanmao the only thing that didn't get wet was the motor. i should have left the canopy float away. but you are right about life and an rc plane. do you like the phoenix 2000? i'm looking at the skywalker too. thanks for the vids. great flying too.
@boywaimea For FPV SkyWalker is the best and perfect plane. it has tons of space in its fuselage and it flies longer, you can modify it as you want for small batteries short flights or bigger batteries longer flights. it can take much more payload compared to those gliders. my gliders are just sitting at home now, since I got SkyWalker. I am gonna get one more skywalker soon
@alishanmao i went on the link you ;posted and viewed the skywalker. does it come with the motor and esc and servos all to $99+shipping and handling? coz i like what i see but the price is unbelievable. thought i'd confirm it with you.
Just for everyone's future reference, a great way to dry electronics without using heat is to put them in some uncooked rice. The rice pulls the water out, it takes a little longer but works.
i told you to water proof your electronics in the robo pilot vid this is why flying over wateris scary cuz if you crash o run out of power it goes into the water and almost all our money put into your electronics is down the drain
sorry about the plane what happen did you lose control or did you drp the radio cuz i don't know what you said when it started to come down anybody know????
@creviseboy well that stuff in that video I can't find it here. But again, I will try to do something else. Like using Hot Glue make sure water never gets into plane. I lost control due to ESC that has 2A BEC. I think that was the cause, not enough current and servos locked up or receiver turned off
This was a rumour that I heard when I was in Cambodia but if your electronics get wet I.E a mobile phone you put them in a plastic bag and cover it with rice then seal the bag an leave it over night, then in the morning the rice would have absorbed all the moisture and the electronics should be dry... DON'T trust me on this as I said its a rumour.
Hate to say but told you so.......Something just not right when you got tons of money in gadgets on a cheap foam plane......ANYTIME you add ONE thing, CHECK & re-check BEC...And you should of taken off you're robot suit, one slip in the water and that would of also been BYEBYE..
NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! that was an incredible recovery. but that's why i put a spare BEC in my planes. it is an extra 30grams, but i know my servos will still work even if my ESC goes out... as long as my batteries are ok.
i hope everything works out and you get your FPV/UAV back in the air safely.
@TooSlow2Care that what I did now. everything works great after drying. I now have a 5A max 7.5A - 5V UBEC Powering everything and motor is powered using ESC only. will test new setup soon. Thanks mate
whats the point of all this fpv just so you have live feed no point theres to much just for it it looks fun but a waste of time money when you coud just hook up a cam on the plane and fly while recored
@liljimmygem the point is that you get close and personal with the flight experience, nothing else comes closer to make you feel like you are onboard the plane, sure cams are a cheaper alternative but some like this experience better, every flight feels like a special ops military spy mission lol , what could be cooler than to get actualy in the cockpit of your rc plane and even look down at yourself and think what a plum you look with those goggles on haha :D
Hey Ali! I remember when i subscribed to you now, you drove a brushless RC into the ocean and the battery caught fire. You make some of the best RC videos on youtube. I hope you get more subscribers from these videos :D
as i say to everyone who makes a bis mistake, "won't do that no mo" lol. well im glad everything is working peachy again. and at lease you didn't fall in the water yourself. i mean not only would your stuff get damaged but i think you might get a bit of a shock out of all that stuff/.
Ali, your field has to be placed in the top 10 for "World's most dangerous RC fields"! Good save...............I'd try to waterproof some of that gear, at least some of it.
agreed with skywave12, you should put a little circuit for remote power-cut.
