  • They may be the stupidest people on television. And I've watched Jeremy Kyle.

  • Brian,it's planet Earth indeed,so why don't you build a fancy machine to try go as deep as possible in it and learn how it's constructed on a factual information but not build up wrong ideas just because of lack of knowledge.Gravity's a force that affects or is produced by the Earth and other planets and its quite likely that planet's construction and inner forces are responsible for gravity so spend money on this research instead of throwing billions on seeking something that shouldn't be there

  • @gugutka1 Anything with a given mass has a gravitational pull in space. Your saying it is the inner forces of the earth. Are you saying it is Magnetism? If not then please explain. If yes then how do you explain planets with no magnetic field or core?

  • I could just sit and listen to Brian all day. Hes so interesting.

  • @Resimaster

Brian is a moron who believes the moonlanding was for real.

  • Bill you knob.

  • News reporter : " Why is it so complicated? Look. "

lmao go ahead and explain how gravity occurs. He can understand that a pen falls downwards when he lets it go, so he thinks he can understand gravity. XD.

  • @KoreaRwkz He's a news reporter. We could say that his job is to talk in front of a camera and he would be insulted..But then he ask how can the moon have gravity if nobody is on it.

  • @KoreaRwkz t'was a joke

  • What the hell is he on about lol

  • get in touch fella....i fixed ur lights at uni.....

  • go on brian....i hate know nowts

  • I think while trying out Sir Isaac's theory, the whole apple tree fell on the presenters head. How did he get that job?

  • this guy must smoke tons of pot hes too fascinated in all this stoner stuff

  • @manwithouthat44 shut up... he is so inteligent, that you cant even understand what inteligence in his mind is.

  • @manwithouthat44 Wow. I don't even have words for this.

  • @manwithouthat44 all this stoner stuff? Are you a complete moron?

  • @manwithouthat44 what r u on about, this is the beauty and interesting part of physics.

  • @RelativelyHostile1 Im not saying physics is lame. I love all the cosmos stuff but hes always smiling like hes on some sort of substance

  • Why does he look like he's smiling the whole time? It's really annoying me! and yes I should get over it before someone tells me. But is he actually smiling?

  • @yippyjp no,he his not smiling,he his actually a prick.

  • isnt that from star wars

  • So,professor cox said "do we need another theory on relativity"after the recent findings of a experiment in the hadron colider, the answer is yes,and we also need open minded scientists who are willing to accept that there is a whole new world of physics yet to be discovered and understood, these new laws of physics will be our ticket to traveling vast distances across space in a short time,if einstein got it wrong then so be it, we must move on.

  • Well, Newton got it wrong too, but we still use his models all the time, because they work. If Einstein got it wrong, we won't ditch everything he said, because something about what he proposed works, and is still working, it's just that there is obviously something missing. It should also be known that there is a pretty large consensus that CERN was premature to have a press release of their neutrino findings, as they have not been reviewed or confirmed. Could be right, but we don't know.

  • @westpsmity what did newton get wrong? if you dont mind me asking.

  • As I understand it, when we were able to accurately measure the distance from the Earth to the Moon, and we discovered that it was not where Newtonian physics would have it be. Not a huge difference, but enough to imply that other forces were at work. I'm no physicist at all, but a Newtonian universe does not account for all the phenomena we have observed in the universe, many of those gaps were filled with quantum mechanics and the like, similarly FTL nuetrinos may be a "gap" in relativity.

  • @westpsmity There are a lot of things that academics have got wrong, some they refuse to accept or change,in the future, all will be revealed.

  • @arobekie Oh for sure, we all need to accept truth as it reveals itself, I was just making the point that Einstein's models have worked well to explain many things (like Newton) so what ever is revealed next will probably be complementary rather than a complete throwing away of relativity. Cheers.

  • Why does media always think the audience is brain-dead?

  • Uncle Brian, please lecture me instead. I swear Im much smarter than those two. why there's no scientist like you in my country. If we had, I wouldn't have screwed my physics class.

  • he is said that Einsteins theory is 'objects' or 'things' bend and distort the space time and gravity more. Therefore, the more objects the stronger the gravity, some people who comment are absolute imbeciles!

  • I don't consider myself an expert but these interviewers are complete idiots.

  • Those two prove that hard work and intelligence don’t necessarily always lead to success and wealth

  • i genuinely feel sorry for Brian...having to spend half of his ime in interviews with people like these.

  • You atleast need someone with a basic understanding of the contect to get a good explanation for something so complicated. These hosts have no idea.

  • still been a bit of a mystery because noones bothered about how it works as long as it does.

  • I wish people would stop being so terrified of science. It's an embarrassment when presenters on TV either play stupid, or are actually ignorant of basic concepts.

  • @Gafaton Exactly.

But I think the majority of... just plain moronic moments on "chat shows" are done on purpose to not alienate the audience. It seems the "assume audience has no brain" thing is spreading, I often struggle to watch the BBC-news*, it's just more apparent when juxtaposed like in this video here.

*the other channels are usually worse.

  • does anybody else find those presenters laughter annoying? Can't stand their jibberish

  • Gravity? It's Intelligent Falling! ;-)

  • i thought this would be a video of brian cox explaining bbc breakfast.

  • Wow! Those presenters are as thick as pig shit. You don't need a PhD in Physics to understand that mass causes gravity. That's GCSE stuff. :/

  • @TheeAvenged ; yes Mass causes gravity... but how? This is what scientists such as Brian is working on. Four dimentional space/time, Gravitons etc...this is not GCSE stuff at all.

  • When you add 'how' and 'why' to Science then it's more than GCSE yes, but I was simply responding to the presenter who said 'The moon has gravity but there is nobody on the moon to cause gravity'. Everyone knows that mass causes gravity. That itself is GCSE and is part of the equation; Weight = Mass*Gravitational Field Strength

  • "..spending three weeks with a BBC cameraman.. you know.. hehehe.." oh god.. a bbc cameraman for three weeks with a partical physicist...

  • I don't know how Brian Cox doesn't go around punching people in the face while screaming: "You're f***ing stupid! Be f***cking smarter!"

He is far too patient, and so very nice.

  • @godspal1 Hahaha I know right!!! I feel bad that he has to deal with such daft morons!

  • the key to understanding everything is not gravity my sweet boy ,,cox

  • That presenter is a cunt.

  • Fuckin hell man can u imagine if u met him in a bar

  • Its Professor Brian Cox. Not DR yeo

  • What a dumbass. "The moon has gravity, but there is nobody on the moon to cause gravity so how does that happen?" Brian should have body slammed him imo.

  • @MrEreda i would recommend a spear followed up by a tombstone piledriver... XD

  • @MrEreda just because there's no one on the moon doesnt mean there is no force of gravity?

  • My god those presenters are thick as two planks.

  • did he actually just say but there arn't people on the moon so how can it have gravity..........how does he even dress himself in the morning

  • @sniktun Hahahaha! Aww, be gentle with him He's on tv for being photogenic; and I'm sure he has assistants dressing him

  • @sniktun LOL I heard that too. Damn, what a idiot.

  • @sniktun Herp derp

  • nothing that he says is too hard to grasp. Are most people actually this stupid?

  • @1Nickk1 Yes, Unfortunatly Most people are that stupid. I have a decent understanding of Fundamental and Particle physics and a good grasp of Quantum Theory and am constantly amazed by the seemingly stupid questions asked of me by my peers. The problem it seems is that most of the Physical Laws are counter-intuitive to the layperson and even to the experts. Ask 10 physicists for a definition of Heisenbergs Uncertainty Principle and you will get 10 different analogies.

  • basic physics aren't really counter-intuitive. It starts getting weired at certain points. If people would look into basics, they would understand.

Most people, if they are interested at all, want one specific answer to one specific problem. But if you want specific answers, you need to understand the framework first. If I tell you that an electron has a negative charge because of the spin of it's quarks, you need to know what 'spin' and "quark" means first.

  • I'd really like to see an interview with Brian Cox (or any other well known physicist) where the interviewer ISN'T a total idiot. Anyone ever seen one?

  • Should be Knighted.

  • You have to give the presenters credit, the realise and even admit that they are not very bright.

  • I think this dude was told to act thick on purpose, surly nobody is this fucking stupid? right?

  • The male presenter ('Bill' I think his name is!) has got to be one of the most self important, unfunny, simple minded, arrogant pricks I have ever seen on TV. To think my licence TAX pays this guys exorbitant wage displeases me greatly!!!

  • Long Live Dr Cox. We need more people like him.

  • Does anyone else notice the very brief moment of total disbelief and even mild anger on Mr. Cox's face every-time the bloody thick male presenter asks a dumb-ass question, as if to say ''Holy fuck, i've talked to 8 year olds with better understandings of science''

  • I applaud the lady host for her patience talking with her fucking retard partner.

  • 6 People have missed the 'Like' button :/

  • @LittleBitUnstable Gravity must have pulled them away

  • @david1leigh Dayum :(

  • Right Brian, fuck the natural world......Tell me, how can I look like a 25 year-old when I'm 43?

  • only dr brian cox can say the words Millions and Stars with such panache!

  • all you guys, chill the fuck out, they are hosting a show and probably have no experience in this field at all. They ask the dumb questions maybe, they are hosting the show....

  • lol those hosts are idiots.

  • I feel sorry for Brian Cox, having to spend six minutes with two of the most obtuse and dull-witted presenters asking him fatuous questions and not even listening to what he says.

  • It's been scientifically proven that, if you stand on the West side of Ireland and throw a ball straight up into the ai on a calm day, it always moves towards the USA.

This is because there are so many fat people in America that the country has overwhelming mass - the larger the mass, the greater the gravitational force.

Ireland has a pitifully small mass in comparison - and the force is easily overcome even from thousands of miles.

  • @jazzx251 good one, but if the fat fucks in america hadn't created youtube, you wouldnt have a venue to spew your filth.

  • gravity doesnt exist its jesus pulling suff down

  • im only 16 and i understand what he is saying, for example the sun is big and heavy, therefore has a strong gravitational field. basically matter drags on time, each bit of matter in the universe makes a dent in spacetime, from just it existing

  • Fuck me these two are dim! Why can't ignorant people ask a question then wait for an answer? Or better still as it's on TV ask someone else before the interview so they know if they are being morons.

  • @TacticalAtheist Hey, this is nothing. Here in the US we have Fox and Friends. You lose brain cells after watching only five minutes of the show!

  • @aquagrl63 I pity you, I really do ;)

  • bbc presenters are all uncharismatic idiots i cant watch these guys in the morning because there sow crap and when they try to do some banter with there guest it just so cringe were thyit. its all about Adrian and Kristina and big up cox.

  • Close your eyes and picutre Mark Lawrenson. Same voice.

  • Oh fuck, that's a smooth voice. 0.0

  • 0_0 ..... really ... "theres no one on the moon and that has no gravity then" .... my 6 year old sister understands that the moon has gravity ...

  • It surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together!! nice bit of Yoda quoting

  • bill what a knob

  • @benjiheads Aww come on, Bill's a ledge.

  • cox i bet gets alot of shiit by scared or know it all people

  • My respect for Bill Turnbull just fell drastically.

  • Wow. Them presenters... They got paid for that?

  • Wow.. those presenters... just wow. O_o

  • that guy on bbc breakfast is so fucking thick. and he looks like those dogs on warner bro cartoons with the saggy faces

  • "If gravity's such a big deal, how come that asteroid didn't crash into Earth?"

I mean...I...just...what? That's not even a question that's not even anything. It's just some words slung together that don't mean anything.

I feel sorry for Brian having to deal with people like this.

  • Bill Turnbull or whatever the fuck his name is is an utter utter bellend. He can never hope to understand the things that Brian Cox talks about.

  • Oh my god. Oh...my....god. "There's no one on the moon so how come there's gravity up there?" WOW.

  • I didn't realise the BBC newscast were so dim...

  • 1:40. It's the force. As in the one that gives a jedi his power.

  • Thanks so much for uploading these interviews! I'm really grateful for that!

  • i lold when he thought that the source of gravity was humans

  • This is complicated , I do worry about the intelligence of the majority of the people in the uk sometimes.

  • The world is so scary sometimes I need to lie on my side and hyperventilate.

  • Its thanks to Brian Cox that I am now studying a uni course on the planets.

    He's explains science quite well.

  • Why the fuck does that presenter have an incredibly respected job with incredibly high pay rates yet there are people with real degrees trying desperately to get jobs now a days that can't.?

  • 'there's nobody one the moon to cause gravity'??? is he retarded?

  • The male presenter comes off really cold. Like he's pissed off that there's someone clever on the show, trying to catch him out with stupid questions.

  • "At the root of all these questions lies a force of nature that surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together" - I knew Brian Cox was a Jedi all along.

  • @klinji just a Padawan...Sagan was saying exactly the same 30 years ago, you know...so if there was any true Jedi, it was him :)

  • @ramjb He's Luke Skywalker to Sagan's Obi Wan-Kenobi then, obviously ;)

  • @klinji No, he's a Time Lord.

  • For every "Jersey Shore" or "Idol" show that gets broadcast and episode of Brian's Wonders/horizon should be played. It would subsidize the moronic culture pop TV is breeding.

  • @ShipMonster I take as one of my stronger obligations as a good father to show this kind of TV shows to my kids when they are grown enough to understand them.

Not talking about just Cox. Sagan goes first, as many other authors who did so much for extending knowledge of science in our world.

I know for sure I was inspired as a kid when I saw Carl Sagan's Cosmos, and is a pleasure to see people like Brian Cox going on with his job after he passed away. It should be a must view in ALL schools.

  • @ramjb "It should be a must view in ALL schools." Exactly. Many other things like up to date science and correct history should be taught in our public schools. BTW Carl Sagan is a champion, I still watch his Cosmos series. Bravo to you for making sure your kids know how romantic the universe really is.

  • The presenter Guy is a fucking Moron, a chav who got lucky..Cox is a legend!!!!

  • i think anyone, with the slightest amount of an education can see that presenter is a fucking idiot. im not sure if he was trying to be funny or what? he say's look its not complicated i can explain gravity, picks up a pen and drops it. thats like someone saying here i can explain electrical principles and just plug a light into a socket. fucking moron lol

  • @sniktun haha brilliant

  • @sniktun Quality. Lol.

  • gotta love the vacuous responses from the breakfast hosts

  • is he atheist?

  • @thebigfly124 Brian Cox? Definitely atheist. He's also listed on the 'Celebrity Atheist List' if you search for that on Google.

  • Dr. Cox is really amazing. Not only is he a genius who is great at communicating complex scientific ideas, but he's really cute. Brains and looks, not a common occurrence.

  • @firebird731137 Thats exactly what my mum said

  • To play devils advocate, the presenter was giving Brian an opening. Plenty of people probably don't understand gravity, or believe it is simple. By dropping the pen and saying "its simple", he's giving Brian the opening he needs to engage with the audience. This wasn't a lecture, it was a dialogue, and the presenter was just saying what most people (not you guys obviously) were thinking. Dont be so harsh.

  • @happyidiottalk can see what the presenter was trying to do, he was just doing it so, so badly

  • @Jayisonfire True, it wasn't great was it. I just thought some of the comments on here were a bit over the top.

  • That presenter is such a dumb shit - "Look, gravity's simple."

NO IT'S NOT, YOU ABSOLUTE TWAT! THAT'S WHY BRIAN COX HAS A PHD AND YOU DON'T!

    Fool.

  • Cox has the patient of a saint. To sit there as a qualified doctor while some jumped up media studies graduate keeps dropping a pen and laughing at himself would take all of me not to jam that pen up his nose and into his brain as an introduction to anti-gravity as an inverse argument

  • I'm a physics student, I applaud Dr Cox's patience here. If he said to me"Why is it so complicated - look!" and drop the pen, I would have stopped him and asked him if he was interviewing a respected artist whether he would have gone "Why is it so complicated - look!" and proceeded to draw a stick man figure - "See? it's a portrait!" and then asked if he was patronising me on purpose, or offered an apology because I didn't realise I was being interviewed by a retard -.-

    0.35 to 0.40

  • @Grothbar

I think it was just a joke by the anchor, even if he thought so himself. but I agree it must be frustrating trying to explain to people with no prior knowledge of spacetime

  • @Grothbar Epictetus once said First learn the meaning of what you say, and then speak. 3:20 Dr Cox. Did he mean to say? Everything causes gravity. You are a physics student. Do you believe everything causes gravity? Or do you believe everything is effected by gravity. Me, I am trying to learn to co-exit with gravity. You see gravity was here before me and will be here long after me. Foundation? Opinion? = Onion

  • @HillardEarl It's both; everything causes gravity and everything is affected by gravity. If nothing was there, only the "potential" for gravity would exist. It's still there, but there's nothing "massive" to "cause" gravity, and in turn, there's nothing for gravity to affect.

  • @feylantern Weeeeeell, almost. Everything with mass causes gravity, and is subject to it. Things with no mass aren't. It's why none of us could ever reach light speed but something with no mass can.

  • @NethDugan Which is why I used the word "massive". :)

  • @Grothbar actually the dumb guy gave him a good example to elaborate on.People with no background nor understanding of phisics tend to only understand phisical principles by seeing or being told actual instances of what you're explaining.

It also gave Cox a footing to explain that for almost 300 years the pen explanation was good enough to put us on the moon. Bright communicators turn fools instances into good teaching practices.

That's why cox is such a good communicator...just as Sagan was :)

  • @Grothbar I swear it would have been hard not to punch such a patronising shit.

  • @Grothbar I'm sure he doesn't ACTUALLY believe it's really that simple. He was basically offering an anchor for brian cox to start explaining things. That's what talk show hosts do.

  • @Grothbar I know what you mean, but I think he's just having a bit of a laugh, isn't he?

  • why do these presenters have to be so fucking stupid, its always the same. The only thing missing was the bloodly X Files theme tune they always play.

  • brian cox is probably one of the most interesting people i have ever seen, but seeing a bbc presenter ( Clearly a fustrated virgin ) try and mock him really annoys me. And the woman deserves nothing but a big giant black cock in her mouth to shut her up.

  • Comment removed

  • hahaha "that no use isit, if your using a sat nav" hahaha sound like something my wife would say ahhaha

  • Well, to be honest, Brian didn't really do gravity justice with his explanation. You can't just say, the spacetime fabric is warped and leave it at that. To an uninformed person, that has no significance, no bearing. They don't understand the mechanism by which the distortion of the spacetime fabric causes gravity. I've found it particularly useful to use the ball on a trampoline example. If you place another ball on the trampoline, it'll fall in towards the big ball.

  • @triviummusician The problem with the ball on a sheet analogy for gravity is that it uses one gravity in the analogy to explain another gravity as a consequence. It might help as a starter but I've seen people get extremely confused by the whole two gravities in one analogy thing. As Feynman said about using this sort of analogy "I would be cheating you ...very badly."

  • "There's nobody on the moon, to cause the gravity, so how does that happen?"

That may be one of the dumbest bases for a question ever. He thought that only planets with people have gravitational force?

That guy should not be hosting any kind of TV program.

  • @gavbag1234 It sounds a little bit Karl Pilkington to be honest. :P

  • @gavbag1234 Would you mind telling me when he said that? I've watched it several times and missed it every time.

  • @gavbag1234 Apologies. I thought you referred to Brian Cox.

  • @gavbag1234

I think he had if a ''tree falls down and no one's there can anyone hear it'' in his mind.

  • @gavbag1234 In all fairness, it was a breakfast TV show aimed at a mainstream audience getting ready for work and school, not a science programme. I totally understand that it was a dumb question, but this kind of show is lightweight at best. They wouldn't normally have a physics professor on at all, but obviously Brian had become something of a media star at that time and that was the main reason for having him on the show.

  • @Spergematic

This guy is not charismatic or anything verging on funny, regardless of the show's demographics you'd have to say they can do better than that fatuous tool in every regard, even if its just in his skill in interviewing we're talking about the man is absolutely terrible. He seems more intent on belittling the subject than allowing Professor Cox to actually explain what happens to be a very interest field of research.

Everything about it bothered me, but I understand your point.

  • @gavbag1234 he is supposed to be representing the average joe - people will be asking the same questions even if you and I wouldn't - also people who are good at getting people to talk etc aren't necessarily scientifically knowledgeable or super brainy

  • @bootes33 If he is Representative of the average education level in the UK then we may as well give up and embrace Islam! I was schooled in the 70's and early 80's and even though the teaching was of poor quality I new about gravity before leaving primary school and understood the basics before leaving school at 15. So your average Joe should understand that gravity is not caused by people standing on a planet. He is as ignorant as that statement. England where Great Britain used to be. :(

  • @TacticalAtheist I think some people retain info better than others and most only what is relevant to them - gravity exists but as we dont notice it its not vital to understand why etc - this interviewer possibly did learn all that at school but has forgotten it - I wasn't lucky enough to learn that at school at all - you are right in what you seem to implying that the education system has been in meltdown for people not to know some basic stuff tho whether its relevant directly to them or not

  • @bootes33 The education system in this country really is going down hill. My son is finishing his second year at Uni (3 to go) And the difference in attainment levels amongst just his friends is alarming. Like it or not our schools spend so much time teaching students to whom English is a second language and I don't just mean the Asian infestation or the Eastern Europeans either. The sooner someone kicks our education system up the ass the better. Never Employ a Muslim...

  • @TacticalAtheist

Never Employ a Muslim...? You sir; fail at life

  • @timen1986 Because?

  • @TacticalAtheist

i'm not even going to explain. cya

  • @timen1986 Another You-Tube Moron!!!

  • @TacticalAtheist

are you really 42 years old? You must have lied about that, there is no way on earth you have 42 years of life experience and still act like you do.

  • @timen1986 It's because I have seen what I have seen in my 42 years that I say what I say. If you want an honest opinion on paint you ask a painter! if you want an opinion on rain you ask a meteorologist. If you want an opinion on muslims working in the UK ask someone who has had to deal with them.

This is not the thread for this pm me if you want to discuss this further if not. Don't post a reply. I concede that you are the bigger man and bow down to your superior typing skills...

  • @TacticalAtheist

No mate, its fine like this. I think we have are on different pages here. I say all humans have it in them to be good so therefore i found your statement about employing Muslim people quite odd.

Clearly you have more experience with them, but still, i hope that when i'm your age i will still be as accepting as i am today. Peace!

  • @gavbag1234 ur an idiot u hes the best scientist ever

  • @gavbag1234 This is philosophical question...if there is no one who can feel this gravity...there is finally no gravity for you (or better said you cant know 100percent!!).

  • Yeah ,The prof showing the way to dunderhead presenters, not their fault right.

I think the next push forward for Professor Cox is to have a net work of programmes, radio what ever interspersed every 15 or 20 minutes with either a countries national game ie chat like radio 5 live or dunderhead soap opera every 30 min or so.

That way the masses are very slowly and delicately brought along. The next stage is then the talk shows on a similar format.Science is moving in the right direction.

  • This clip is a brilliant illustration of what Richard Dawkins talks about: the double standard of admitting ignorance of science compared to admitting ignorance of something like literature, art or history. It's very important we overturn this- people should be embarassed to not know basic science. People should know just how stupid they're being by reading horoscopes.
